So, this might be a very Canadian thing to get excited about but I always love the World Juniors that start on boxing day. It's like a late Christmas present that lasts until New Years.

https://www.iihf.com/en/events/2019/wm20/schedule

link to the schedule. It looks like it is in Vancouver this year so there will be lots of games on at the right time to watch.

Anyone else interested? I love watching these games to see who the young stars coming up are likely to be. And there have been some amazing games played during these tournaments in the past.

And the games have started! I'm watching the Czech vs Swiss game right now because my kids are cleaning up all their crap from Christmas and I don't have anything to clean up right now

Already there is a penalty in the game only 2 minutes into the game.

Hockey!!!!

Other than the US, I am pulling hard for Sweden because I’m a big fan of Erik Brannstrom.

Currently, the games have gone as planned. Sweden was able to beat Finland despite brilliance by Ukka Pekka Luukkonen. Brannstrom was able to score two goals on him, which makes me feel very confident.

The Canada game wasn’t shocking, but I didn’t expect Canada to score 14 goals. The Canadian team is stacked with Frost, Tippett, Comtois and pretty much everyone else.

I was happy the US won, but they did only beat Slovakia by one. Still, a win is a win.

Barathemos : yeah, I'm Canadian so I like when they win but I do enjoy when someone other than Canada, the US, Russia or Sweden win. It feels like a huge accomplishment. Otherwise it seems more or less expected.

And if you consider who Canada would have if players weren't already in the NHL versus who they have right now it would be scary. That is pretty true for most of the big 4 teams though. So many 18 and 19 year old players are playing in the AHL or NHL already that it sort of evens out this tournament a bit more than it otherwise would be.

I love the WJC! Go 'Merica!

Hopefully Jack Hughes can get back in the lineup soon. I don't think we stand a chance if he misses the rest of the tournament. We need him to beat teams like Canada and Sweden.

Speaking of Sweden, I thought for sure we were going to come all the way back to beat them the other day. Absolutely incredible effort by Ryan Poehling.

Some tough games today. Switzerland beat Sweden 2-0 in a game I think most had Sweden pegged to win fairly easily.

And Canada lost after a fluke goal late in the 3rd period pushed the game to overtime where an unlucky stick break led to a Finland game winning goal. Good game overall but obviously not the result I was hoping for. Finland played well though. Didn't give Canada much room to do anything and capitalized when they needed to.

With Sweden and Canada both out, and Jack Hughes back in the lineup, things are looking good for the United States. It's unfortunate that we didn't get to play against Canada though, those games are always a lot of fun.

tgags123 : yeah.... those 2 teams being out leaves things wide open.

Looks like the US and Russia are the other 2 winners tonight unless Slovakia can turn things around.... but 4-0 is tough to come back from.

USA just beat Russia to advance to the gold medal game against the winner of Switzerland and Finland. I'd assume the United States is a big favorite against either of those teams (especially Switzerland), I hope they can pull it off!

Well Finland beat Switzerland 6-1, which means they will play the United States for the gold medal tonight at 8 PM. I was excited to watch the game... until I realized I won't be able to because I have to go to a family friend's sweet 16. :/ Guess I'll have to settle for watching highlights after the game ends. Go USA!

tgags123 : yeah, between the 2 teams I'm going to cheer for the US. My wife is American and so if Canada doesn't win then I cheer for the US.

I think I'll be able to watch that game though.... I can't think of anything going on tonight that will stop me.

Are the World Junior's single elimination? I'm confused reading through the thread.

Also, know where I can stream it online at for free?

thing1 : it starts as a round robin tournament to determine who plays who in a single elimination playoff. Well, quarter finals if you lose you are out. Semifinals determine if you play for Gold/Silver or Brozne/fourth.

And I don't know where you can stream for free. I'm sure there are places you could find it though.

Well, congratulations to Finland for winning the gold medal. I should be content with a USA silver medal, but I'm disappointed because I thought we had a good chance to win gold, especially after taking down Russia in the semi-finals.

I know it’s been over for a few days, but I wanted to state my thoughts.

I was surprised that Finald won gold. I totally thought that either The United States, Russia, Canada, or Sweden would’ve won gold. But I’m happy for Finald, but saddaned that the US came away with silver. But hey, we meddled (looking at you Canada)

Overall, I was thrilled with the talent that I saw, both in the prospect pool for Vegas looked great. Especially Erik Brannstrom. That dude looked great. Also, Cody Glass played quite well for the ice time he had.

Ukka Pekka. Dude played phenomenally. And how about Ryan Poehling? He played incredibly well, higher than my expectations.
