I came back to check on everyone I've been gone for 2 years,I noticed that sometimes replies are months apart and the chat is emptier then usual,my question is this,is vizzed dead? is it just contests at this point? because I dont see a whole lot going on around here

It sure seems like it some days. Hardly anyone posts anymore, it would be nice to see everything pick up again.

We've had a few threads like this lately, and the answer is always the same: no.

Vizzed took a big hit that hasn't yet recovered from, but that doesn't mean it's dying. Winds of change are breezing through the place, though not many are actually aware of them or what they mean.

We've had several members returning from long hiatuses in the last months with the intention to stay, and David himself has changed his approach to the site in order to speed up the recovery. The process is slow, but it's happening.

Chat has been mostly overshadowed by the Discord server. Everyone now decides to go there, which is why we have pending a possible merging of that server within this site and make it the replacement for the current chat.

That's awesome that we have all the changes to look forward to. I can't wait to see what the future holds for Vizzed. The last couple months people have been returning so life is already returning. Will be awesome when things really get going again.

Vizzed was, is and will be always the best site to play games,,,I don like modern games I like retrogames.

The activity that Vizzed has been quite down, but I don't really think it's dying yet. All websites all has it's dead patches here and there, even popular sites had these said dead patches, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Google, Steam, DeviantArt (trust me, I seen a couple of dead patches happen on DA).

Like EX said, Vizzed has taken quite a few major blows in the past 3 years, ranging from poor staff/modding performances, to poor quality, to no confidence, to someone (who I won't name) reported Vizzed to Nintendo and forced David to remove all 1st party Nintendo games from being played, which ticked off a lot of people.

Although activity has been picking up a little bit at a time as of late (which I was one of those returns). But there is still a lot of room for more users to make their return to Vizzed once again, and with half of the games gone, that would be tough to accomplish unless David tries out a new approach to bring back the old activity once again.

Just to play Devil's Advocate:

Yes. It is dying.

Let's face it: This website isn't "trendy" anymore. There was once a time where message boards and browser emulation were thriving. Now is not that time. The website had its heyday. I can't believe that some people still act surprised that the website has dropped in popularity over the past few years. The coding and security is messy, there are many outdated things on the website (Google Buzz is dead and who the hell uses StumbleUpon, Digg, or Delicious anymore? Not to mention the fact that ACMLMboard reeks of outdated), and the whole interface of the website is just... annoying.

We live in an age where the only popular boards anymore are Reddit and 4chan-style websites. They're popular because they're fast and easy to get used to. They also don't ban you for swearing at someone (we're in the 21st century, get used to swearing) and don't IP-ban you if you create an alternate account, but they DO ban people for being complete asshats a la Enzo Matrix. As a wise man once said, the rules of Vizzed are more laws than guidelines, and as long as you aren't strictly breaking those exact rules, you're good to go.

The VGR is completely useless because there are websites out there that offer the same information but without all the useless stuff no one cares about and in a much more presentable manner. Funnily enough, much of the video game information on this website was ported DIRECTLY from MobyGames. Also, If I'm looking to purchase a game, I'm not going to go to a website that lets literally anyone review games, I'm going to go to a professional paid reviewer. The one useful thing right now is the music player (which is almost certainly illegal, but clearly copyright laws don't seem to be an issue on this website...)

This brings me to my final area: The Retro Game Room. This is what brought everyone here. Not very many people go on Google and search for "christian video game message boards," it's really the emulation that everyone was initially attracted to. The Java and HTML5 emulation is totally awesome, but the RGR plugin, required for pretty much everything, honestly seems kind of pointless to me. All it does is download like 35 emulators, 90% of which you'll never use, then embed then into a smaller window with many emulation features removed that you can't play unless you're online. If you're 9 years old, it's great because it's so easy, but if you're 9 then you shouldn't be downloading free online games. Literally all you need to do is go to an emulation website and download an emulator and a ROM. If you know anything at all about computers, it's the easiest thing in the world.

But you know what? I had fun with it. I only started to dislike it after I realized that it's literally just a bunch of emulators stripped of half their functions embedded in a crappy window. But even after I realized that, I do gotta say, the Netplay feature of this website is super easy to set up and I still love it.

This is why so many members have left. But he real reason Vizzed is "dying" is because there's so much less incoming traffic nowadays. You know why? It's because we don't have Nintendo games anymore. It's because some immature user couldn't handle his anger issues and got offended at everything. The same fully-grown man was IP-banned like 4 times before this incident, and somehow people KEPT LETTING HIM COME BACK, then boom he reports the website to Nintendo, an action that ultimately caused the downfall of the website like the first domino in a trail of hundreds. Guess what? The higher-ups let him back. It's not an act of forgiveness, it's an ignorant act of stupidity. The man who essentially ruined this website was given yet another chance just because he was acting out of anger.

So yeah, the website isn't "dead," but a slew of poor design and administration choices have ultimately caused a gradual downfall of activity.

Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised....I've honestly spent alot less time here ever since Nintendo basically butchered the RGR....  Most of the games I felt worth playing and I'm probably not alone here got taken down once they either found out about their games being here, or got a hair up their backside once a majority of them got Eshop downloads...

TheFadedWarrior : Eloquently stated, man. Not only did I learn some things about this site's downfall, but I wholly agree with a lot of where you come from.

Let's face it--This site is dying. I poked my head back in to see if there were any of the users I had formerly had good times with, on this site. 

I sometimes think that one possibility for Vizzed's fall from grace is the fact that, considering this site's purpose (to provide free retro games) and the demographic this website ultimately attracts/attracted, this forum board was not set up for great longevity. I am actually amazed at how long it's flourished. But for how many subforums this board contains, this community (disproportionately made up of young children) fails to really introduce posts of great interest or insight. I'm not saying that this is the case, by virtue of Vizzed being a forum about gaming, but there comes a point where the kids that populate a forum like this grow out of it. Now, this isn't to say that greater age = greater knowledge. However, online groups, think tanks, open forums comprised of majority adults are more likely to introduce more sagacious, smart dialogue. Pardon my cynicism, but this board almost rarely provided meaningful discussions that could stand the test of time, because of this phenomenon. "The game was rigged from the start".

Tour De Vizzed is/was rubbish, and did nothing but contribute to an unhealthy, toxic forum board. I look back on little me, being thrilled for this ostentatious excuse to produce crapshoot posts, in order to secure colorful banners. TDV tried to develop this board into a hearty, flourishing community motivated to construct the best contributions they can, but this method was to no avail. Did Vizzed really need this competition? 

I would LOVE more context on the story with the dude that gave up this site to Nintendo. What a tragedy! 

yes it's dying and as I see there is no netplay rooms or chat rooms and most of them are inactive and replys to posts are not alot I don't feel like people like vizzed anymore there is alot of websites like vizzed and some of them sadly I say are better but vizzed is still good but no that good games are super slow(oh get it because my name is sonic and slow ) and they take alot of time to load EVEN PONG
so yes there is better sites than vizzed so people not using vizzed alot.

I have  to admit though, it hasn't been too active as it did in the past but as all chat/gaming sites they eventually become barren to those who's been here a long time but then again, to each its own.

As others stated these threads are commonplace.... Heck i think i made one a few years ago ironically.... or contributed to one... 

Yes Nintendo removing games had an affect.... but that by itself could not have drove away seasoned members by the hundreds... i doubt it. 

Especially when we're talking about games from about 20 years ago now... games widely available on many formats as well. 

I lost my interest in the site due to a few individuals, nothing more and nothing less... When you feel like you're not allowed to be part of a community by senior members of staff, the same ones who thought it was fine to insult others on other media... then i'd rather just stay clear... 

I've got my own community of friends now... and that's all i need. 

This is probably gonna be an unpopular post, but I have to agree with Leggy. Vizzed has been on life support for a few years now. Rest in peace.

hell no. I havebeen here since 2012 and come in every now and again. I feel the site just needs time and it will be back to where it was back then.

When I first realized what had happened and what Nintendo had did. It broke me down on the inside. I have so many great memories on this site dealing with the Retro Game Room. I just want to know is there any hope of vizzed getting their games back? At least the hacks?

It's gonna end at a point.... just the way things work! but I think Vizzed dying is inevitable, anyone who thinks no is delusional- the amount of activity is dreadfully low and the aesthetics are poor here.

I don't think so. i mean i just joined so there's i don't know though.
