which is great. I will say, take your time in figuring out what you want. Look up ideas online to see colors, contracts, line work, and positioning. Definitely look up local artists- many have Facebook pages showing their work and just set up a consultation to get a feel for the artist. They usually have a portfolio of their work that you can take a look at. I was playing with my boyfriend's tattoo drawing up what he wants to enhance by using a sharpie and we took pictures and it really help narrow down his vision of it. I don't have much of a story behind my tattoos just simply woke up and said I am getting a tattoo today and drove up to the nearest tattoo parlor that had good reviews and got it done. Now I am actually taking my time figuring out my right shoulder cover up which is going to have to be bigger than I'd like but adding some colors would bring it all together. Looking more for a Tim Burton and Beetlejuice tattoo because it's really what I like most. I have tons of ideas and no actual vision of a final tattoo as I'd like to do a half sleeve and eventually extend it down my back to connect with my hip tattoo so trying to find something that will collage well and cover up the current shoulder tattoo is taking me some time. Also trying to find an artist that specializes in these types of tattoos - bold colors, shading, great with faces, clean thing lines, and big cover ups. So, going a full circle here, basically look online for inspiration and research your tattoo guy. Always make sure they put on new gloves, shave the area, disinfect it, and open the new needled package in front of you. Pain isn't too bad, depending on the area of course. The more meat the less it tends to hurt. Just deep breath and at one point it becomes like an adrenaline rush and you just start thinking of the next one lol I hope you enjoy the experience!
