The title speaks for itself, looking for some fun games on steam that are free so that I can get a bunch and test them out over the course of like a week and see what I like.

Which ones do you recommend?

I'm not into steam releases, but one game that I've tested on my PS4 with very notable results is Brawlhalla.

Not sure what can the differences be between both versions regarding how to obtain characters, stages and so on, but on PS4 you can get a dozen characters with relative ease even without actually having to play online. The full game can be accessed over time without needing to spend money on it, so it's a good incentive to keep you glued.

The game itself is similar to Smash Bros. Each character has weak and strong attacks, the latter of which can be charged, and each character has two weapons they can wield, which can be collected between other items that spawn on the stages during the battle. There's no percentage of damage, but your character icon does give hints of the many damage you've sustained, going from white to red passing by yellow and orange.

It's incredibly fun, so I hope you don't back off because of the amount of time you'll have to invest to access everything you want without having to spend money.

EX Palen : I LOVE Brawlhalla. It's been a really long time since I played last but I was one of the very first people to play way back when it first opened. I was hooked and probably put about 3 hours a day into the game and even did a review here on it almost 2 years ago, a good 18 months before the games full release.

This is one of those games where I wish Steam wasnt broken with counting hours because I probably had a good 100 hours in at the end of 2015

Port of Call is an older game from Underdog Games.  It's survival horror and it's still out there on Steam.  It's completely, fully, 100% free and it's worth the time you can invest in it.  It has some pulse-quickening moments and it's not the scariest I've ever experienced but you can try it, late at night, with the lights out and your headphones plugged in.

You should have some fun with it.  And, again, zero dollars.  Free.

Robocraft used to be pretty good, they screwed it up a lot unfortunately. But it should still be worth a gander unless they murdered it even worse. Basically you build a functioning robot/vehicle out of parts to out strategy your opponents in a kind of artillery warfare. Back in its glory days, I built a car that once it was damaged enough in the front, I could flip it over onto a second set of wheels to retreat.

pennylessz : Sounds interesting, if I had read this like 3 hours ago I probably would have downloaded it and tested it out. Is it online only?

There may be bots, I'm unsure since it's been awhile. I know there's a grounds where you can test your creations at least. I find it interesting. I used to find it addicting, but they definitely made some unsavory development choices. I would recommend having a gander at least if you enjoy the concept of creation.

pennylessz : I finally downloaded it. It looks really cool but I haven't been able to test it out myself yet, I'll see what it's all about when I get a chance.

"Emily Is Away" is a story-driven game that is super unique in the way it tells its story, and it's super good.
"Spooky's Jump Scare Mansion" is a lengthy and surprising horror game. The less you know about this going into it, the better.

I recommend Unturn. It's a battle royale game and you can build shelter to protect yourself from other players or zombies. The graphics are almost like minecraft and roblox ( which is square-shaped ) .

Team Fortress 2 is my favorite on Steam, but there is also Brawhalla like @zanderlex mentioned, and there are some voxel/pixel graphics survival games like Unturned that are quite fun. No More Room In Hell is bad ass, and Fistful of Frags, definitely check that game out, very similar to TF2, but with a western theme, and plenty of user created levels etc. There is also Loadout, which is kinda like Fortnite, but not so much a Battle Royale game, just team death match, etc, but it's in third person. Definitely check that one out.

There's a f2p on steam game called clicker heroes which is a nice little idle/clicker/whatever people call it, I'm not really sure game.

There's also another game called Viridi you might wanna try too. Not sure if I can really call it a game but it's neat. Especially good if you like achievement hunting.

Well personally I  don't like free to play games anywhere because sure they're free to play but accomplishing anything you pay through the nose. I'd say for steam wait until they give games away but the one free to play game. I can recommend is called Zombie Defense for the most part everything can be unlocked using in game currency but it does give you the option to buy thing as well.

I'd say Brawhalla, Team Fortress 2, Expendabros, those are my three favorites, granted there are others too, I didn't realize how many free to play games have been released on Steam over the last 3 years, some of them are not full of microtransactions, they are cheaply made games, and that is cool. Hell there are hundreds of them on there, maybe even more. So I will have to go through and check most of them out...if I have the time lol.
