Hello, Vizzedians! It's been a while since the board got greeny, huh? I'll paint it green time to time, there's nothing wrong with that~ (something good!). (Warning: This thread contain spoilers)

Anyway, so uhm I recently got into one of the world's most famous (and longest running) manga series, One Piece. I began to dive in it since last year. How you may ask? At the end of 2015, I was watching one day a video from WatchMojo.com called "top 10 smartest anime villains" and the 10th one was Sir Crocodile, a One Piece villain. Okay, I received a bit of information about One Piece. Months later (mid 2016), I started watching clips of Sir Crocodile vs Luffy, and eventually Luffy vs Hody Jones (some villain). I really enjoyed watching them! And then months later (end 2016) I started watching soooo many clips of the Marineford Arc, and it lead me google more information about many characters such as Dracule Mihawk, WhiteBeard, Kizaru... And also in parallel I was reading in the One Piece wiki what was currently going on in the story (whole cake island arc!). I was viewing it time to time to 'get news' from Sanji lol. I became deeply interested in it when the Yonko Assassination Plan was first discussed and the possibility of Big Mom going down, and ESPECIALLY WHEN CHARLOTTE KATAKURI WAS FIRST INTRODUCED!!! <3 <3 HE'S MY BAE OF THE YEAR :3!!! hey don't get it the wrong way, it's just i really find him badass and epic. So since that moment I started knowing more about that show (and the concept of Haki too), and I even started reading the manga (arrived chapter 161 too slow lol).

Simple question guys: Are there any One Piece fans here? It's true, I don't know the 3/4 of it, but I know almost everything about Whole Cake Island arc, so if you know about it I would love to discuss it with you. I know the basic things of the show at least (such as why there's a time skip for example). I would love to discuss what I think of this arc with someone, and about One Piece in general. I personally think it's a great series, and Oda did a great job on it. He's a great writer: When you read the manga, it feels like he's planned everything 20 years ago! I believe the concept of Haki was planned since chapter 1, but it wasn't that deeply thought (it was planned since the beginning since Shanks used Haoshoku Haki on the shark): It was until way later in the story that it is finally explained.

I've tried to get into it twice and got like 50-60 episodes in before dropping it. Most of the characters are pretty cool and the premise is interesting, especially having it based on pirates which I feel is kind of underutilized. The extremely slow pacing ruins it for me though. You can actually tell at some point how they try to artificially add length using stills or really simplistic animations, that is not to talk about the filler episodes and flashbacks which I hear only gets worse later on. I also don't like how one dimensional Luffy is, I get that's kind of standard as far protagonists in shonen animes go but they usually have something else that adds a layer of complexity to them. Too be fair the manga would probably be more up my ally but I rarely read manga anymore. There's people who say it gets better later on, but honestly if a show can't grab after investing tens of hours into it then I don't see it as worth the time.
