Caught my attention... but turned out to not be so catchy? Mohammedroxx3
Well, hey guys. So today, I found a very interesting sonic game to review. One thing that really got my attention is the way that it is for the atari 2600. That really caught my attention and inspired me to review it, however, to be honest, this review may be abnormally short compared to my other reviews since this is a game for the atari 2600, however, quality over quantity. In fact, this is the first time I'm gonna review a game for the atari 2600. Anyways, lets go ahead and start on this review!
Intro:Simple really. This is simply more of a somewhat similar game to sonic the hedgehog but for the atari 2600 that is incomplete with nothing but some unoriginal scraps of green hill zone, but I must really say, a sonic game for the atari 2600? Doesn't that just sound, odd and a bit interesting to check out? It does indeed in my opinion which is why I wanted to go ahead and attempt to review it. And now, let's (try to) delve in more to the review of this game!
Gameplay: 5Well, as the most of you can guess, not such good gameplay. Now, let me explain why, firstly, the physics. The physics is just completely off. To describe that more in detail, if you jump, you just go up in the air and fall down VERY fast as if sonic is just a magnet. It's literally like metal sonic attracted to a metal ground and he is having trouble jumping. Also, when you run, it just goes in an annoying, hard-to-control constant speed. Like really, not such an enjoyable gameplay due to the horrible physics. Since the physics and gravity is bad, destroying badniks is a challenge. You may just fall in a trap instead. lol. The physics is more like sonic being a piece of magnetic iron that is attracted to the ground while he is attempting to run and jump. Thats about it for the gameplay.
Graphics: 5Well, first thing is first, this is an atari 2600 game so expect the graphics to be.... kind of dreadful really. Most of you guys already know what I mean if you have seen or played atari 2600 games before. Anyways, as you can see from the screenshots, there is no background but a solid color and the ground or floor is just brown really. And sonic looks very weird. He just doesn't look right. He has nothing but plain eyes and a completely plain and somewhat incomplete looking face and the badniks seems a bit poorly drawn, but again, this is an atari 2600 so don't be very surprised at the ratings for it. Thats about it for the graphics.
Sound: 6For the sound, not so bad actually, not bad at all for an atari 2600. The sound effects are somewhat impressive for an atari 2600, it is almost similar to the sega genesis or the snes (a little bit at least). Even though there is really no background music, it's much better like that because background music for an atari game can be a disaster for the ears. Small and yet somewhat nice sound effects in my opinion. The sound effects of jumping and collecting rings is actually pretty catchy to me, it is like short, fast, and somewhat of decent quality in my ears. Well, Thats about it for the sound.
Addictiveness: 4Not so addictive really. The bad physics, bad graphics, and the buggy zone really doesn't make me want to play it again. I mean, I would be more addicted to a sonic game for the sega genesis that is of higher quality than an atari sonic game to be honest.
Story: N/AI really have no idea about the story to be honest. This is more of an incomplete demo and I wasn't able to complete it due to several glitches I encountered. Though, it may most likely be the old and original story of sonic defeating Dr. Eggman, I think, but really, I can not rate it since there is no story or I just don't really know what the story is supposed to be, but it is an insignificant thing of sonic games anyways.
Depth: 5Not so good really. It offers more of a scrap of green hill zone that is very unoriginal and buggy and it includes sonic with horrible physics. Well, I give it credit though since it is somewhat like the original sonic 1 a little and it's an atari after all. There isn't much else to say here.
Difficulty: 8Somewhat hard I'll say, but not in such a good way. The main reason it's hard is because the floor and zones is glitchy. When I try to make a big jump through an area with a big gap, I actually end up getting stuck in the middle of the ground instead, later on, I just fall down the screen, and die. Also, the physics are tricky and more like magnets which makes the game even harder to play. If you really want to imagine it, what if you were literally a magnet made of heavy lead trying to run and jump, how will you actually do? Of course, it won't end up well, just like this game, to be honest.
Overall: 5Well, one more thing to say, it isn't THAT bad for an atari game really, but of course, not so great either. To sum it up, it's more of a glitchy, scrapped, and original zone of green hill zone that is incomplete, the physics is just like magnets, and sonic speed is constant and very hard to control. Though, this game managed to get my attention when I first saw it so it did motivate me to actually make a quick review of it. My review is unusually short since this is my first atari review but oh well.
Thank you very much for reading this and any constructive feedback about my review will be appreciated. Have a nice day on vizzed. :)

This is a Peculiar game animelover1
Well not many people know me because I am a runner up on posting. I started before then stopped, but I think it is about time I create my first review. I normally would review Pokémon, Zelda, Dragon Ball Z etc, or just plain old Game Boy games, but this game actually caught my attention. I first saw it on a review today actually, and he explained how horrible the game was. Well I went out and gave it a try and I don't see where he went wrong. It's actually where he went right. All the Criticism was the whole point of it but all in all he told the game right down to its exact core.
Graphics:Now first off I would like to begin this way. I know the game was for the Atari and all but it wasn't looking so neat. Not then again on other Atari games I could deal with it looking this way for one reason and one reason only. The games were actually pretty catchy and interesting. You see me I like pixelated games mainly because it gives me a feeling of Nostalgia completely. Not because it is old, but mainly because I can see myself as a 6 year old kid again playing this, but when you break it down this way. This...game...is...so...horrible.
Sound:Now Sound is a big problem with me. Mainly because when I play a game I love hearing the theme music on it too. Not just to be listening to music but to make the scenes or areas in the game more interesting. I know most people hate playing a game without volume and turn around your at this part in the game that has you indulged in it and the music goes perfect with the part. I really don't know about you but that really urks my nerves. Especially with this game. You can only hear the Jump and ball up music, then it all comes down to game over. That's all you hear. No theme music+bad graphics=Horrible game(not bad game).
Addictiveness:I didn't find this game too addictive, only the fact that I am at least able to play a video game. So I gave it some credit on that. I mean really though there are much better Retro games than this one, but if I were born back in the time of this game, I could sit back and play this game for hours regardless of the looks or if I'm stuck on 1 part of the game. So basically what I am trying to prove is that this game isn't very much on the addictive side.
Story:The game had no typical storyline to it at all. It was mainly just start up the game and go straight to your level. I didn't really like that in the game and when that happened I knew it was going to be a bad game. It really just reminded me of a Super Mario game that you fly in the sky and just warp to a new level, but back to the story which is something this game really does not have. It is mainly combined of many levels. However though, most of Sonic the Hedgehog games are like that but thus could pass to be the worst Sonic the Hedgehog game I have ever laid eyes on.
Depth:I can't really just say it is a big game because I haven't played it long enough to determine that. I only played it long enough to determine that the game is really bad. That is about all I have to say for this category.
Difficulty:I guess I could say that this game is really the normal type. It had some tough moments because of the format of the game. You moved a little too fast at times and you moved a little too slow at times too. Also the jump was really jacked up because it didn't really let me jump as high as I wanted to go. It would jump partial way, and half of the time I had to use my ball dash to jump high enough. I don't really know if this is a bug in the game. I also had to deal with it frame skipping a little to where I would move a little too fast and I fall off those 1 block obstacles. Not that it is anything wrong with vizzed or the emulator, it's just the game problem.
Overall:The score that I gave this game as an overall was what it deserved and this game would have to come up with something to impress me to make me change it. I really wasn't expecting much when I started to play this game in the first place but I mean seriously though. The developer could have come up with much better than this. I also know that the developer was trying to hard to make this an enjoyable game for the players, but trying to hard can always lead you to a downfall depending on how you are making something or trying to make something. I also recommend the developer for actually making this game better than it could have turned out but Sonic the Hedgehog on the Atari just wouldn't work out.

Worst ROM ever Crawldragon
Ugh. I'm sorry for this one, guys.
This is a port of Sonic The Hedgehog for the Atari 2600. Now, you know me. I like it when people try porting newer games to older consoles. It makes an interesting challenge for any homebrew developers out there in the crowd. The problem is that Sonic The Hedgehog is most well-known for fast and high-flying gameplay, and you know just as well as I do that there's no way the Atari is going to manage to emulate that.
I'm going to break formula a little bit and talk about the graphics first. The graphics are okay, but the main problem is that the developer tried too hard to make everything look like original Sonic. Sonic himself is lovingly rendered in about as good detail as you could manage on the 2600, and most of the enemies actually look pretty good, but the consequence is that the sprites are huge and disproportionate. A little more restraint is necessary to do this game right.
The sound is actually really good, and mostly faithful to Sonic The Hedgehog. Naturally, it suffers from compression onto the Atari's sound card, but it actually ends up sounding surprisingly good. I have to give kudos to the developer for that one.
The final dagger in Sonic's heart, however, is the gameplay. Like in Sonic, you run around, and you can curl up into a ball and start rolling to attack enemies by jumping. However, you can not crouch to gain speed or curl into a ball; the only way to curl up is by jumping. You can not go on a loop-de-loop while curled up in a ball, even though you curl up while going on the loop anyway. You will frequently find yourself backing up to pick up speed to make simple jumps or go on loops.
Everything is clunky right down to basic game function. Enemies and powerups disappear as they go off to the left, but if you backtrack until their spawn point goes off to the right, they respawn instantly. This has a two-pronged effect on gameplay: It is criminally easy to exploit the game for rings by walking back and forth, and you will frequently be accosted by the same enemies time and time again while trying to adjust yourself to make a jump.
The levels are super-compressed into a tiny layout by the combination of poor graphics and ridiculous player size, meaning that the platforming suffers and enemies and powerups are more difficult to get to than they need to be. You will frequently miss jumps and be forced to go back to try them again, leading to the problem I mentioned before of enemies constantly respawning. You will also find yourself stuck in a position where you can't return to the path because you've fallen into something or gotten stuck in a wall, and you will get stuck in a wall a lot because the collision detection is simply broken.
The scrolling effect is pretty smooth for the Atari 2600, but that doesn't change the fact that the platforming is awful, the conversion just doesn't work, and the game is impossible to enjoy because the enemies keep respawning. On top of that, there's really only one level split into two halves that just repeats over and over. I don't care if this is a demo, because the demo makes me not want to play the finished product, if the finished product ever has the gall to be released.
For a clunky conversion that insults not just Sonic but the Atari,
1 out of 10.
Summary
Graphics: 3/10
Lovely graphics on the character sprites, but unfortunately they get in the way of the game.
Sound: 8/10
Beautifully rendered sound very faithful to the original game right down to the music.
Addictiveness: 1/10
Only a masochist like me would play this more than once.
Story: [red]No rating[/color]
This may be Sonic, but it's still on the Atari.
Depth: 1/10
Depth? What depth? There's one level and it's super easy.
Difficulty: 5/10
Five out of ten only because the controls are so bad you're guaranteed to fall into an unfair number of pits and enemies.
