Tekken   CANVgamer
For many people, fighting and violence have been part of our lives throughout history; as far as back many of us can remember or as many of us can look up; "street fighting" as well as "martial arts" and other forms of combat have existed through our time. Fighting was always a way to "release" and "restore", but at the same time; it is also a way to stand up for what is right, yet while doing something wrong.
When it comes to games like this one, fighting is designed for those who have a purpose; those who have something important to say or do, but cannot solve it by normal means. Tekken is the game that started one of the biggest fighting definitions throughout our history, although there have been many "Beat 'Em Up" type of games before Tekken; this game is the one that made it all possible and doubled up the gaming generation tenfold.
This game has started a long history of pure butt-kicking fiesta, and whether you use it to have fun; or to release some built up anger, this game will be enjoyable no matter what. (Although the newer ones are much better for some, but these older ones are best for me).
Graphics - 6/10
Like I have said time and time again, many of the PSone games have always had that block-like look to them; having a very smooth but "Minecraft" looking appeal. In a way, these were the games that made it all possible; these were the games that said "You know what, let's try something different..." And since then, Tekken has been one of the best games to ever be created; and many of the characters exist in our future gaming generation of PS3 and Xbox 360. For many people, the graphics are like a delicate shape; combined with other delicate and smooth shapes to make a figure and a character that can knock you down to the ground in a single hit.
Sound - 7/10
One of the most honorable reasons why this game is highly loved by many, generally dates back to the soundtracks that these games had. Each area had a special soundtrack, mostly containing a very "ambient" and "calm" feeling; often allowing you to smile even when you know you are losing. In most cases, you might just end up turning off "blocking damage" and just blocking the entire time so you can hear the music; and believe me, there was so much more to enjoy besides just the music.
Addictiveness - 9/10
Along with many other "beat 'em up" type of games, Tekken has proved to be one of the most addictive to say the least; and to add onto this, Tekken has continued to be reproduce time and time again for the many fans. Heck, they even created a "Street Fighter X Tekken" game; allowing two of the biggest "beat 'em up" games to go head-to-head in an all out slobberknocker. Both of these game series even knocked many of the WWE games off the charts, showing truly how much people enjoy a classic BEAT 'EM UP. But as I have said, there is a good reason why this game is so addictive; whether you want to be the hero type of guy like "King"; who fights to help orphans or you want to be the evil Heihachi; the stories are interesting, the game is exciting and the battles are rough.
Story - 5/10
Since I mentioned stories earlier, may I remind you; this game brought the concept of each character having it's own ending, it's own background story; and with many of the newer games, some of these characters tie into one another. Whether you are Kazuya trying to beat our father Heihachi or even King trying to practice with your Sensei Armor King; the stories are indeed fascinating and many of them show what it means to be a real fighter and to have something WORTH fighting for.
Depth - 6/10
Throughout this game, you have a wide range of modes; and in many of the newer games, the modes had become more and more "special" from gamer to gamer. Whether you want to go bowling in "Tekken Tag Tournament" or even do some level clearing in "Tekken 4"; the options are wide and the choices may leave you amazed. Oh, and let's not forget; nearly every single Tekken game comes with a PRACTICE option; where you can adjust to your character and get as much practice as you want. And last but not least, one of the most fascinating things about the entire Tekken series is the level of combos you an make; whether you want to do a "Suplex Powerbomb Spinebuster Backbreaker" or even a flurry of fist shots; the combos become exciting to watch.
Difficulty - 7/10
Specifically for this game, since the controls are a bit "sloppy" I should say; it is a little more complex when it comes to winning, as you progress through the Tekken series, it becomes so much easier and yet at the same time... so much more difficult than I can possibly explain. All I can honestly say is, this game was easy for me; but for many of you, it may be one of your hardest battles yet.

Tekken 1 (PSX) - Review (spoiler on story)   TurtlePing
Tekken 1 is the start of the Tekken franchise and it will be a rival to Sega's 3D fighting game Virtua Fighter. I have to be honest that I'm not an OG fan of the series since the first game but I've always played Tekken 6 at my nearest arcade. But it shows how the game started.
The opening of the game aged like milk on how the characters look and move, like when it showed Michelle running and the flip, same with the part when Kazuya punches the candle, you can kinda see his arm coming out of him.
The main game doesn't look the greatest but the gameplay is simple and a bit better than Virtue fighter, each button is assigned on the character's limb, for example, the △ button makes the player punch on their right arm. One thing is that there isn't a movelist that you can see in-game so you either have to remember the character's moves from another game or look it up on the internet. One weird thing is that when you fall down, you are just lying on the ground for a long time for the opponents to do any moves that hit you on the ground.
The characters in the game look weird but they are cool and kinda different from each other. One character that I liked playing was Marshall Law, he was based on Bruce Lee with his outfits and moves. He does cool flips to make his opponents fly up in the air. One cool thing is that there are secret characters that you unlock when beating the arcade mode. Sadly, most of them are just reskins with moves from the main cast.
The story is very easy to understand when it came out, Kazuya Mishima is trying to get revenge from his dad, Heihachi Mishima for throwing him off a cliff when he was 5 years old. Heihachi is the final boss for everyone in the game and when you beat him as Kazuya.
he grab Heihachi, took him to the same cliff when he fell from, and drop Heihachi from the cliff, and then he smile since he got his revenge.
The soundtrack is fine. And you can listen to the arcade version of it which is cool. I give the game 5 of out 10. I see the game as a showcase on how Tekken evolved.

King of Iron Fist Tournament   becerra95
Been a while since I’ve done a review, and I thought I would make this review on a game that I was blessed playing back when I was a kid. This game didn’t seem as much back in the day, heck I didn’t even knew it was popular until I saw the third installment in a demo disc and to know it’s still going strong is an accomplishment knowing it’s been ongoing since 1996 (I think?). This game was one of my original PlayStation 1 collections and I am happy to write a review on this classic. This is Tekken for the PlayStation.
Story: 7
Billionaire Heihachi Mishima has created “The King of Iron First” (Tekken) with a huge some of prize money which is backed by his own company “Mishima Zaibatsu”. Competitors will fight against each other to reach the finals where they face the promoter of the event, with each having a story and motivation behind entering the tournament.
For the canon story. His son, Kazuya Mishima wants revenge on his father for throwing him off a cliff at the age of five and plans for a Coup d’etat on a worldwide scale. He would do anything to take his revenge on his own father and take over the company. This is what I got from reading the manual. A not too complicated and somewhat cliche story of son wanting revenge but a 7 would do.
Graphics: 6
The graphics of the game aren’t the best, even for 1995. Virtua fighter 2 and some other early 3D games surpass the graphical capabilities of which this lacks. I mean by no means this game isn’t bad to look at but you can clearly see the polygons and sharp edges of the character models and designs. The stages are beautiful though for its time like necropolis, Chicago and Fiji. A total of 11 stages are present in the game and each one has its own unique theme and personality to say the least. I would say since this is the first game of the series and fighting games are just stepping into the realm of 3-D it’ll be given some slack for its graphical appeal.
Gameplay: 7
You have a choice of 8 fighters with each of their own fighting style and combos to master. An additional 10 characters are unlockables through playing and winning with each character tho most are just reskins of the original 8 characters. The buttons aren’t a traditional 6 button layout like other fighting games. Each button constitutes a limb of their body (left hand, right hand, left leg, right leg) which may seem odd at first but very adaptable. The frame rate is what makes it a bit lackluster with 30 frames per second, it’s quite a slow fighting game to say the least. Most fights are also barebones which makes this feel like what other have used the phrase “a tech demo” and I wouldn’t blame them. For me personally, a character that I love using as a kid was Yoshimitsu, a samurai who uses a sword and spins to hit opponents. Overall though, a 7 should be decent enough for this rating.
Music: 9
I love the music of the game. The upbeat tone of Fiji to the winter tone of King Charles island. I would personally would listen to this as video game music on the go if I was into that type of thing. It’s really one of the best part of the game, and yes even the scratchy tones of Chicago and wind noises from monument valley. I recommend listening to the soundtrack and it deserves a 9 at least.
Depth: 5
A very barebones fighting as I stated earlier. It’s the first game so it’s understandable on how to make it work and how to appeal to the general audience.
One consolation is the combos and moves. Each player has their own set of difficulty to master their moves and each comes with a 10 hit combo that is devastating to the opponent if it connects. It is the beginning of a complicated play-style that doesn’t change, but rather evolves for each new entry of the series. This is what makes the game a bit more interesting in terms of depth but it doesn’t make up on how little it offers. A 5 is suited well enough.
Addictive: 8
Game is addicting. Even with its little to offer content, it is still fun to play once in a while, especially when playing against friends or other people on the console. I spent so many hours playing the game when I owned it and not once had I felt bored playing it. An 8 is justified for this.
Difficulty: 7
Game does has a difficulty setting to which you can choose how easy or hard you want to challenge yourself but I’ll leave this on normal. Difficulty of the game isn’t bad until the later levels where the cpu is able to “read” your moves and counter you with a few hits. Not once do I find this cheap against normal opponents and more so like “oh dang I knew I should’ve hit under” so it does give a bit of a challenge. One issue is the final boss which I do find cheap but not by reading inputs but by how hard he hits and able to counter almost anything that you throw at him. I wasted hours on end just to beat him and it’s so satisfying to finally beat him and not touch the game for the rest of the day.
Conclusion:
Being the first of the series it lacked so much what later games would offer but it sold so well and received favorable ratings. Being the first tekken game I played I was impressed at how it was back in the days but as time went on I got into tekken 3 then tekken 5 and learned how much this game evolved and become one of the best fighting game series to be developed. For the review I would give it a

8.2
One of the first and best PS1 games   DragonSlayer22
This game in particular for the PlayStation...
I had this game after I had Tekken 3 on the same console, as I wanted to see were the series originally started from. This game was fun to play, yet it is often overshadowed by later games in the series.
Graphics: 7 The graphics on this game were like no other at the time. Unlike Virtua Fighter on the Sega 32x, this game's models were 3.D. and textured to look like real people. The background also had parallax scrolling unseen in any other game in the series to give it a more 3 dimensional feel, the animations are a bit clunky, but that's okay, as it was one of the first 3.D. fighting games.
Sound: 8 The sound effects in this game are your average punches and kicks mixed in with the occasional grunts, no big deal. The soundtrack on the other hand, was a totally different story. The music is great and fun to listen to, it showed the PlayStation 1's capability to produce higher quality sound then something seen in a Super Nintendo or Sega Genesis. It's up-beat and keeps you aware of your surroundings.
Addictiveness: 7 The game is still somewhat fun to play to this day, the only problem is that the animation and graphics are worse than its squeals, and is often rejected for them.
Story: 4 I'm not saying this in a bad way, i'm just saying that there is not much of it in the game. The story goes that a powerful man known as Hehachi Mishima starts a tournament known as the King of The Iron Fist, where you fight until you face him, and if you win, you get $1 billion dollars. You have a small amount of characters to play from and more unlock able characters as you play.
Depth: 7
The game has some things to do in it, but not a lot, as it has less modes than in the other games, but the main mode is the arcade mode in which you fight for the prize.
Difficulty: 9
The game is quite hard to play, as the controls are clunky and at times some characters have moves that are WAY too powerful, even on medium mode. Good luck beating Hehachi though, as I only beat him a few times as he is really hard in this game.
OVERALL: 8.2 The game is a fun game that changed the history of fighting games forever, yeah Virtua Fighter was cool, but this game did it better, with greater controls and more characters to play as.This game can be bought for $5 used and over $200 unopened and graded. So if you still have a PlayStation 1 or 2, do yourself a favor and pick up this piece of history. You wont regret it. Trust me.

This game is awesome! But it will always remind me of my friend, he was obsessed with this franchise.
