Abe's Oddysee Review
Hello again time to show another review of my favourite ps1 game. Now I played this on a demo disc but shortly my brother got the full game of it and I wasn't able to complete it back then until sometime ago. Can't remember when though. :)
Story 10 out of 10: When you start off with the story a voice starts to talk. And this person as he will appear to be. His name is Abe. An alien from rapture farms the biggest meat process in oddworld. And...a slave as well like the other aliens. He used to be the employee of the year until he did something he shouldn't had done. You will see him tied up and locked somewhere in some sort of a room. Abe crossed his meanest boss called Molluck. A weird name I know. So Abe will retell of what happened one night when he was working late. He appeared to somehow see a dim light of a door and eavesdropping on his boss and his friends meeting. Saying profits are low and he isn't happy but then had this cruel idea of idea of a new meat they can see that will skyroof their profits back to what it once was. And the new kind of meat....it was Abe and the other aliens! Shocked and terrified Abe decides to dash off and run this is where you get to play as Abe to help him get out of rapture farms as of other things that will awaits you....
Graphics 10 out of 10: Its more of a dark type since the story and game is in a dark place. There will be times when you reach further into the level you see colourful colours on different levels you get too. When left rapture farms.
Sound 10 out of 10: The music for this is pretty great. There are some sense of creepy and eerie in there. But not so much. There is more of suspense kinda of music at most times. But when you reach to certain other levels the music will become more loud like for instance a chasing music. This will happen when you run into a scrab. If you dunno what that is look it up to see. So there is a mix of suspect and quietness as well. Yeah there are quite music as well in some parts of the game. Making it even more tense. You can never know what will come around the corner to get you.
Addictiveness 10 out of 10: Its very addictive once you play you would want to know more about the game. And how far you can get before dying. When you make it to a certain way in the game your mind intensifies as of wanting to even further go into the game. Because of how the graphics will come at you.
Depth 10 out of 10: Yeah I say there is quite a lot of depth in here. In this game there are two different types of endings. There is the good ending and there is the bad ending. Once Abe makes it out of the rapture farms and is now away he is told that he has a destiny. What is that? Find out for yourself to play. But I tell you this you do not want to get the bad ending. There was a second game made after the first one called Abe's oddysee exoddus and to be honest I didn't play that game. Since I thought I wouldn't enjoy it more than the first game. There are many secret places you will have to find as well. And they are not easy. To find them? You got to listen to the sounds of if there are nearby machines. That's all I can tell you since I wouldn't want to spoil.
Difficulty 8 out of 10: It starts off easy but as you further go into the level and the game it will get harder. So it will be like a build up kind of thing. Like a height measure.
Overall 9.6: Its amazing game to play very unique and very different to other ps1 games. Which should catch your interest. Give it a try and you might like what you see. Its something very much worth playing.
Thank you again for reading this review. So until then. ^-^

Review of Abe's Oddysee: Embrace the Odd   supremesonicbra..
Oddworld. My favorite franchise since I was a kid. Although I've played Exoddus before Oddysee, both games (in fact, the whole franchise, really) has a special place in my heart, Oddysee on PS1 and Exoddus on PC. Here is a personal review of Oddysee.
[GRAPHICS] - 10/10
Being a PS1/early PC game, I always wondered how could they make such awesome graphics at the time. The main trick used here by Oddworld Inhabitants (from here on mentioned as OWI) is a pretty cool thing called "pre rendered bitmaps". They tweaked all of the game's scenes before inserting them into the game, and that gave the game it's eerie, creepy, dark yet awesome look. It all looks pretty "real", once you pay attention to the details.
[SOUND] - 10/10
Another thing that helped with the game's overall atmosphere was the soundtrack, which is purely industrial ambient most of the time. This is what I love the most about the game, I always loved simplicity. The "melodies" are pretty much only composed by the deep bass sounds, and that's it. Everything fits well, from Rupturefarms to the Scrabanian/Paramonian temples, and there's a lot of contrasts: minimal, yet fulfilling. Deep, yet rhythmic. Ethnic, yet heavily mechanized. There's no way I can't love this soundtrack.
[ADDICTIVENESS] - 8/10
Besides being an awesome game, I end up replaying Exoddus more than Oddysee thanks to two reasons:
1 - Oddysee just feels smaller than Exoddus, there's only 99 Mudokons to rescue comparing to Exoddus' 300, and
2 - Oddysee has something I find a bit tedious, yet I understand: you can only talk with one Mudokon at a time, this being "fixed" in Exoddus with the "All 'Ya" command, which I personally find more comfortable and way faster.
If it weren't for those two points, I'd give it a 10, maybe.
[STORY] - 10/10
Tell me if you know another game in which you're a slave in a meat factory that discovers you and your buddies will get chopped up and transformed into meat popsicles, to later on escape the factory and survive deadly temples filled to the brim with wildlife, getting awesome transformation powers to shut down the factory and save your buddies. OR, end up killing them all. That's one of the things that make Oddworld games... well, Oddworld games: you have two possible outcomes based on karma. You either turn up being the saviour of a race or its doom, it's all up to how you play.
[DEPTH] - 7/10
Although it may take a while for someone who has never known about the franchise to beat the game, I find it a bit short, not to say not as diverse as I thought it would be. Sure, I've played countless hours on it, but Exoddus, again, feels bigger, and that's pretty understandable since it's the first game, Oddysee is still awesome as it is nonetheless.
[DIFFICULTY] - 8/10
In the past, people said playing Oddysee was a "rite of passage". I do agree on that: it took me a while to get the hang of it on the first try (considering I was a kid back then), but high difficulty often relates to high rewards. Oddysee makes me feel proud of completing a hard area like Scrabanian Nests or the later Zulags. Everything is pretty tight and responsive, so quick reflexes are a must. Overall I believe it has just the right amount of difficulty.
That said, Oddysee is one of the best PS1 games I've ever played, and I'll never forget it as much as I won't forget Exoddus. I highly recommend it to anyone who loves hard platformers and immersive gameplay
[OVERALL] - 9.2/10

Abe's Oddysee   CrimsonTHRAK
The Oddworld games are one of my favorite game franchise next to conker. I have happened to own this game maybe around the early 2000's (maybe 2001) . This is an example of a game that gives me the perfect nostalgic feeling. I want to try to review every oddworld game that has been made. Lets get on to the review!
STORY: 10  [NOTE: MAY HAVE SPOILERS]
The story is about this guy named Abe, who is a Mudokon. He has been a slave for Rupture Farms for some time now. Him and his buddies have been chopping up meat of Meeches (which are extinct), Scrabs, and paramites for tasty products. One night, Abe was mopping up the floors when he discovers a new product about to be made called "New 'n' Tasty" soon to hit the shelves. He then realises that the new kind of meat was him and his Mudokon friends. Now he must go deep into Rupture Farms and save them and escape.
SOUND: 10
The game has a tons of sound effects and awesome music.  The music is like jungle ambient mixed with techno. The sound effects have a bunch of explosions, roars and screeching of the Paramites and Scrabs, squeaky talking of Abe and Mudokons, and even the footsteps of Abe are nice.
DEPTH: 10
This game has a whole lot of cool things. The game is supposed to be like a puzzle game. You can talk to other Mudokons. You can tell the Mudokons to follow you. The sayings are on a display menu called Gamespeak. You can chant to posses other enemies. You can throw bombs at the enemies. There are also a lot of tricky and clever secrets in parts of the levels.
ADDICTIVENESS: 10
I could play this game any day! There is really nothing to say about this. It is that fun.
DIFFICULTY: 8
Okay, this game can get really frustrating But that frustration is all worth it. The enemies of this game are Sligs (which are guards of Rupture Farms) That can be seen on any level, Paramites, Scrabs, Slogs (which are dog-like creatures) and Fleeches (which are leeches that can chase you). Bombs are also an enemy of the game
GRAPHICS: 10
For the original PlayStation, this looks just amazing. The world of the game is just perfectly detailed. There are also perfectly animated cut scenes. My favorite level would be the Scrabania level. It almost looks like Endor from Star Wars. Rupture Farms Has an amazing style of architecture. The homeland of the Mudokons is just perfectly made.
OVERALL: 10 I have seen some awesome ps1 games back in the day but this one just nails it! There are some people out there who finds this game creepy. I don't see anything creepy about this game whatsoever. I highly recommend it for people who grew up in the late 90's and early 2000's.

Abe's Oddysee review   IgorBird122

Here is a review by The IB, Working on a PlayStation game that is called Abe’s Oddysee. Abe’s Oddysee was released for the PlayStation 1 on September 19th, 1997. This game is the first game in the Oddworld series which was created by an independent gaming company called “Oddworld Inhabitants”. This game here, you control a protagonist named Abe, he’s a special Mudokon who has his lips stitched shut, but still can be able to talk, and he is a slave at a meat process plant called Rupture Farms, and your quest is to escape from the plant and save all the Mudokons that are also trapped into slavery, trying your best to avoid enemies such as Sligs, Slogs, Scrabs, Paramtes, and just to name a few, and depending on how many Mudokons you save, it can have a real effect on the storyline, either if it’s good or bad, it’s wise it stays good. Anyways, I think this is one epic game, why I say so, just read the rest of the review.

Graphics..

I think with my standpoint with Abe’s Oddysee, for the PlayStation 1 game released in 1997, it is quite amazing, it really brings a new element with the not just the PlayStation console, but also the Platformer genre. I think on how Oddworld Inhabitants did with this game, they really put a lot of time and effort on creating this amazing game. I really like some of the sprites on all the characters, like Abe / other Mudokons, I also think the background are quite nice as well, the industrial scenery of Rupture Farms, the environment of Monsaic, Paramonia, and Scrabania, and a lot of other things makes everything quite nice, even on the PlayStation 1. Although this generation (5th video gaming generation), we have got into more 3D gaming with more 3D graphics, this game keeps the 2D style gameplay with a little more 3D graphics, and I think personally is what really made this game a really amazing game. And that does make a really good game a really good game; it’s all in the graphics and other things as well.

For the graphics, I have to give this game a perfect 10 out of 10. I think for a 1997 games, having these good quality graphics this early in the PlayStation’s lifespan, I think this is a really good sign that the PlayStation will be one interesting console and the graphics in this game is one of those games that really open Sony to a whole new world of gaming.

----------

Sound/Music..

The Sounds and the music in Abe’s Oddysee, I really like it. Let’s start with the sound effects. I think with the Paramites, and the Scrabs screams and their roars I think are pretty top notch for the game, and also some of the environment is also quite amusing like the bee sounds, the birds, and everything else in the setting, and it’s not just the nature, but also the industrial parts of Rupture Farms also has added to the sound effect mix as well. But the big thing I do like is the gamespeak, Abe, the other Mudokons, the Sligs, and the Glukkon all have these features which I really know that it’s spot on with the voices. So, I think the biggest part of the game is the sound effects.

For the music though, I am quite amused with some of the tunes in each of the levels played, although it’s not as amusing as the sound effects in the game, but not really a whole lot. I still think no matter what anyone thinks on this, it still have quite an amazing soundtrack. My favorite soundtrack has to be the Rupture Farms music, not sure, but I think it sounds interesting, especially near the end of the game. So, I think the music is quite an amazing feature in the game with the sound effects.

For the sound and the music, I will give it a 9 out of 10. I think to my personal point of view, I really like on how the music and the sound effect was portrayed in this game, if it wasn't for a few flaws in the music section, it would be a perfect 10 out of 10, but personally, I don’t think it’s a really a bad thing, it still is really, really good though.

----------

Addiction Level..

The Addiction Level has a whole lot and also being my 4th most favorite game series in my personal history; this is why it’s addicting to my point of view. I think what really got me so addicted to this game I think with all you can do and with the slightly funny dialog in the game, just how much I like the platformer world, and also for somehow someway, the game’s theme and everything else seem to have a lot of interest into me, so I think that might make me want to play this game a whole lot of times. What, by saving all those Mudokons, avoiding/killing enemies, a lot of obstacles for you and your Mudokons to avoid, the dialog, and everything else in between what really got me interested in this game. That’s all I really have to say about the addiction of this game. It’s just really addicting, that’s all I can say.

For the Addiction Level, I will give it a 10 out of 10. The reason why I give it a 10, like I said, this game is part of the series that is my 4th favorite series in video game history. It’s got a lot of things in it that will keep you playing this game for a good, long time, and it will be hard to stop playing, well, until you complete the game, but you will restart the game or play Exoddus. So, that’s really it for the game for the Addiction Level.

 ----------

The Storyline..

With the storyline in Abe’s Oddysee, it starts with the main protagonist of the game named Abe that his life was hanging by a tread over possible death (won’t get too violent with the situation, but you know what I’m talking about), but the story that lead to this situation, Abe was first a slave at a meat process plant called Rupture Farms, until one day while doing some janitor work, he see something that has completely changed his life to the worse. He seen that Molluck and the rest of the staff was running out of ideas and feared that Rupture Farms was starting to go out of business, but he (Abe) has heard that Rupture Farms last effort to stay in business is using all the Mudokon slaves as their new food products and Abe with fear for his life, he has decided to escape from Rupture Farms but not soon after, the security cameras picked up on Abe escaping Rupture Farms and warn all the Glukkons and Sligs that a slave is escaping the meat processing plant and do everything in their power to stop that from happening, but they failed, and Abe escape with a few of the Mudokons in the way. After his escape, Abe finds him back in his homeland of Monsaic until he meets with Big Face. After going through the tests with Paramonia and Scrabania, he has gain power to summon Shrykull and then heads back to Rupture Farms and get some revenge on the Glukkons and the Sligs, plus also save a lot more Mudokons on the way. And near the ending, you enter the main office of Rupture Farms that has a lot of Glukkons in there and then after you kill them all, a couple of Sligs capture you and depending on how many Mudokons you save (we will go above 50 with this), you will be capture by them (and going back to the beginning of the storyline), the Mudokons you save have went ahead and saved your behind just in the nick of time, before the Slig pulled the level, the Mudokons summoned a thunderstorm over Rupture Farms and lightning strikes both Molluck and the Slig and knock them both out and then Abe was saved once again.

So, for the storyline, I got to give it a perfect 10 out of 10. Even for a 1997 game, Oddworld Inhabitants really put a lot effort into their storyline in this game and it was really a break-out storyline for an independent company, and I think to my point of view, this game and Exoddus both had the most amazing storyline in any game I played on the PlayStation 1.

----------

Depth..

The depth has a quite a bit, and for a 1997 game, it does have quite a bit of interesting things, and it follows that traditional platformer feel, and you know I am a guy that likes platformers. In this game, you can save up to 99 other Mudokons (although some of them are hidden in secret areas so it can be hard to find all 99 of them. But also the ending can be affected, if you save more than 50 Mudokons, you get a good ending to the game (like I mention above in the storyline) or if you save below 50, then you get a bad ending (which is basically the same, but the Mudokons refuse to save you and you fall to your death). So, I think that’s the only thing that can have an alternative way of the storyline. I think also what makes this game interesting when it comes to the depth of this game is all the interesting items you can use like stones, bombs, and just to name a few, and you can use those bombs to your advantage. This game also brings in “Gamspeak” so you can be able to talk to other Mudokons so you can be able to save them (or unless you want to kill them, but that will be bad though). Not just all of that, I think also the level layout also is unique in a way on how much you can do and how the layout can affect your path to the end of the game, but really, other than all of that, nothing else much to say though.

For the depth, I have to give this game a perfect 10 out of 10, it has a whole lot to come with the amount of things in the game, and how the storyline can change with the number of Mudokons you save. But you can’t get wrong with Gamespeak, which is all right there.

----------

Difficulty / Gameplay..

Personally, this game can be quite difficult at times, and even at some points, it can take me like a half hour to hour to complete one level, and that can tell you that they can be really hard levels in this game, but I think once you figure out the level long enough, you might just get the hang of it and it won’t be so much bad than before. But playing it for the first time, it can be extremely confusing and extremely hard, even at a skilled level, it can take me a little bit of time to get done. With all the enemies in the game which can drastically affect the game’s difficulty can make it a little bit harder, even at times, it might seem a little impossible to beat, but I think once you figure everything else out, it won’t be too bad. So, is difficult to my point of view, I think yeah, it can be a little challenging, but being the fact I have played this game for quite a while, it don’t really seem too bad for me.

As for the Gameplay itself, though I think the gameplay in this game are quite rocky, but I personally don’t think it’s too bad though. Some controls are alright, but with all the things like I mentioned in the depth can sound a little confusing at first, but I think once you figure out the controls, I think it will seem a whole lot more simpler to you than you think. Like take for an example with the Game Speak, it’s not so bad, because all you have to hold L2 or R2, and then press any of the right shape buttons and then speak with the other Mudokons, and you chant with holding both L2 and R2 (but really L2+R2, L1+R1, L1+R2, L2+R1, L1+L2, R1+R2), and if you’re really rushing the game, that can cause a lot of problems, but with my quick mindset, I never really run into this issue. The only flaw I had with this game (which was fixed in Exoddus) that you can call all the Mudokons, and you can only get them one at a time and it can be annoying at times). But I think with all of those flaws in the gameplay, I still think this is still an alright game though.

For the Difficulty and the Gameplay, I got to give it a 8 out of 10, mostly because with the hard difficulty plus the slightly confusing gameplay, it still isn’t really a bad game to try out, I think if you bypass this, it is one amazing game, that’s all I got to say with that.

----------

Overall..

Overall, I think Abe’s Oddysee is quite an amazing game, this game right here has brought a new element of gaming to me, and this game (and Exoddus) ended up making this series my 4th favorite series in all of video games. I think with the graphics of this game, I think this is the biggest thing in the whole game that really got me interested in, so, for graphic wise, this is the biggest part of the game, if I could of gave it an 11, I would, but 10 is good enough. As for the sound effects, I think the sound effects are also that good as well, I think with the introduction of Game Speak, I think that really changed this game to me a really great game, I think without the Game Speak, this game won’t really get it’s fame, despite it’s amazing graphics, but for the music, I think the music is pretty alright though, maybe a couple of minor things could be better, but hey, it’s a game made in 1997, so, everything doesn’t have to be 100% perfect, they can be a few flaws here and there. As for the Addiction Level and the Depth, I personally think that both things offer a whole lot for the player and both things also have the player be stuck on this game, no matter if they bought the original game to play on their PS1/PS2, or bought it on the PlayStation store for the PS3/PS4, we got a whole lot of people that really likes this game. Also, the game as quite hard, even for experience players, but I think if you’re used to it, it’s not bad really. But the thing that really stands out in this game is the amazing storyline. The story goes where you’re a slave in a meat processing plant and want to escape to freedom, and the way it was told, I think this is quite of an amazing story; I do have to say that. As for my final thoughts of this game I think this is an amazing game for the PlayStation 1 and if you want to play this game in any way I mentioned above, I think this is a way to go, try this game out, it is quite amazing.

For the final score, I have to give this game a 9.5 out of 10. I think the reason I decided to give it a 9.3, it’s really got a whole lot of amazing and interesting material that is packed into this one game, and I think this game provide an amazing and entertaining experience you can encounter with. When I played this on the PS1/PS2 and play it from the PlayStation Store on my PS3. This game is really amazing. I think you will enjoy this game.

Anyways, that’s it with this review.
