Mega Man III (Game Boy Review)   tornadocam
Mega Man is back this time in a much better game. Glad Mega Man II for Game Boy did not ruin future Game Boy games. So here I am going to be reviewing what I consider the first great Mega Man Game Boy game.
Story: 8
Finally Mega Man on the Game Boy system gets a decent plot. Dr. Wily resurfaces once again to take over the world. This time Wily sets up his fortress in the middle of the ocean. Underneath his new fortress is giant drills and tunnels. Wily is stealing the World's Oil supply to power up his machines. He is also wanting to steal all the oil to hold the citizens hostage. Basically not only is Wily going to power his machines to take over the world, but if you want Oil you will have to pay him a huge amount. Mega Man goes out to foil the evil doctor once again and save the environment. Okay this is a much better plot than Mega Man II. Mega Man II's plot was just awful. Wily is not building a time machine or anything. This is more typical of the Dr. Wily that Mega Man fans expect. This plot in this game is what put Mega Man Game Boy games back on the map. Now is the plot perfect no but it more typical of Wily. Mega Man III's precursors had horrible plots and the games were a joke. I was glad to see Capcom going back to the good old days here of Wily wanting world domination. Now, the story is not as good as Mega Man IV or V for Game Boy. To be fair though those games were hard to top plot wise. Capcom I feel like was trying to get creative by having the evil doctor threaten the environment and steal all the oil. Thus, I give the plot in this game a good solid rating.
Graphics: 8
The graphics in Mega Man III were greatly improved from the first two Game Boy Games. For those that have played Mega Man I and II know what I am talking about. If you haven't played them games than you are not missing much the graphics were just that bad. A lot of the stage's backgrounds were nicely done. Spark Man has sparks in the ceiling in his stage that was a nice touch. Gemini man still has his flashing blocks in his stage. Shadow Man's waterfall and when the lights go out and stars appear was also nicely done. Dive man's stage had very good graphics the way the water moves. The skull stage was nice with skeletons flashing in the background kind of gave that stage a creepy feeling. Also Mega Man charged buster looks a lot like the Mega Man 4 version. It is not as good as IV and V in the game boy series. But, it was still a nice touch.  The sprints in this game were also improved. Enemies look like enemies again mets look like mets, bosses look like how they did in their regular Nintendo games. The only thing is sometimes it still feels like there are lags in the game. Dust Man's stage especially in the compactor section feels like it is lagging. The wily stages also have some lags, but believe me they are nowhere near as bad as they were in Mega Man II. The controls in this game are so much better. However, they are at times were Mega Man feels sluggish especially in the Dust Man stage and the Wily stages. To sum it up, Mega Man III was getting back on track as far as graphics were concerned. It made me feel like I was playing Mega Man again. Though, I just wish they would have fixed the lags and controls more. But hey like I said so much better than the second game in the game boy series. Okay I will try not to rant so much about comparing III to II in this review . Not sure if I can keep from it though
Sound: 9
The sound in Mega Man III was very good and improved from the previous Mega Man games. I really liked a lot of themes in this game. Mega Man III had a good soundtrack. Gemini Man's stage has a relaxing theme. In fact, it sounds like his Mega Man 3 NES theme. Shadow Man's has the coolness about him and well his stage music rocked too. I also liked Dive Man's music it sounded exactly like his Mega Man 4 NES stage. I really find Gemini Man's, Shadow Man's and Dive Man's themes to be very catchy in this game. Dust Man's theme gives you that doom feeling which fits his stage nicely because it is a hard stage (more on that latter). In addition, to the soundtrack being improved and more like a Mega Man game. Enemies actually sound like enemies again. The mets have their classic sound back, when enemies attack you it sounds like they mean business again. Furthermore, another awesome sound is the music they play during the weapon get part, after defeating a robot master. The only thing that keeps the sound from getting a perfect rating and just a little beneath Mega Man IV and V is they are some tingles. I noticed that the Wily stages have a few tingles in them. I do not know if this is because it is on an 8 bit handheld system or what. However if you have read my other reviews you know I do not like tingles. Tingles in games cause tingling in my ears grrr  which really gets on my nerves. Also in Mega Man IV and V the buster when charged really sounded powerful. The players just knew it was doing damage. The buster in this game does not have that kind of sound. In fact, it doesn't really have a sound at all. I like it when the buster has that powerful sound to it.  Thus, I give the Mega Man III sound a good 9 out of 10.
Addictiveness and Depth: 8
Okay now we have a much better Mega Man game boy game. I really had fun playing this one. When I want to play the Game Boy Mega Man games I usually start with this one. The game is fun. I often like to play this game because it was really the first Mega Man game that put the Game Boy series on the map. This game does have more depth than I or II. First of all, stages can be revisited which that is a plus. I like it when you can revisit stages. This game is also quite longer than the first two Game Boy games. Moreover, the stages in this game are a lot longer. They are also items to collect. That brings me back to stages being able to be revisited again. Some special items require certain weapons to get. In the first two game boy games if you did not have the weapon, than to bad you missed out. This one you can go back and get the items. Now this game does not have the huge depth that IV and V had. IV and V had letters or gems to look for, and they are known for being able to purchase items via Lights Lab. But this was a good start. Mega Man III will take a while to beat.
Difficulty: 9
Mega Man III really shines one difficulty. This game was brutal at times. Spark Man's, Gemini Man's, Shadow Man's Dive Mans and Dust Man's stages just bury the player. In those stages there are traps to avoid, lots and lots of death spikes, as well as pits. Dust Man's stage is infamous for being tough to finish. In that stage you have pits, than there is the compactor stage. The player in that stage has to avoid the compactor coming down and shoot paths through. Enemy placement in this game was also very brutal. It is so easy to get cornered, hit from behind or just getting knocked into the pit. Speaking of pits, Mega Man III had a lot of them. Some of the stages I could barely clear the pits in. The new Mega Buster can be charged so that does quite a bit of damage. As I mentioned above the Robot masters are also tough. Punk, who is Dr Wily's Mega Man Killer, is really a pain to deal with. If punk hits you 3 times with his weapon you are finished. I can only think of one Mega Man killer harder than Punk and that is Ballade from Mega Man IV. I'm glad though that they brought the difficulty back and it is the good kind of difficulty. The past two games were not the good kind of difficult. I and II were difficult due to the horrible graphics and the sprints being out of whack. Mega Man III really test the players skill, reflexes and creativity. I died quite a bit in this game so I was glad to see the game getting back to Mega Man games standard of difficulty.
Overall: 8.6
After making a very horrible game in Mega Man II Capcom needed to bounce back. Mega Man III was their comeback and it proved to be a hit for the Game Boy. Mega Man III is what put the Game Boy Mega Man series back on the map. I was glad I chose to play this one. I guess Capcom was afraid after making II that the Game Boy series really needed a huge comeback. I really liked Mega Man III. The graphics were getting back up to par, the sound was back and the difficulty was back to Mega Man standards. I will also make the argument that this game set the bar for future Mega Man Game Boy games. Mega Man IV and V really topped this game. However Capcom needed to start somewhere if players were going to play Game Boy games again. I also liked it that they had Dr. Wily being more of himself. The first two games had Wily doing very corny stuff. When the main villain is a mad scientists. I expect crazy things to try to take over the world not no nonsense that this games precursors had. I often do not play I and II they are just that bad. I often when I want to play the Game Boy games start playing this one. Now with that being said does this one rank up there with IV and V which are top of the line. I would say it is just a few notches down. But it is still a very good game and one I do like. I have this recommendation for anyone who is wanting to play Mega Man Games on Game Boy. Do not waste your time playing I and II, you will be disappointed. If you are a fan of the Mega Man franchise you will even be mad that Capcom would make a game as horrible as II. I would recommend that new players to the Game Boy line start with III. So yes I would recommend this game. It is a good Mega Man game to start with in the Game Boy line.

A very hard, yet fun game   lolid23
If you are looking for a challenge, this game will be a good choice, I'm a BIG FAN of Mega Man, so, that means that I love all of his games, they are very addictive, anyway, here´s the review :
Graphics : the game graphics are obviously not the best, this game is in a very old system (GB) and it doesn´t has colors, is a complete black and white game, but that doesn´t really matter.
Sound : the sound is ok, since the game is completely 8-bit, the sounds will not be very realistic but they still sound catchy, as for the music...well, the 8-bit music sometimes is better than the music we have today, so, it´s great music.
Addictiveness : the platform games are always very addictive, this one is one of them, not to mention that the game has a very high difficulty level, so, the game will keep you busy for a while.
Story : I don´t know if I should review this, but whatever, this is for newcomers, so, it goes like this : Mega Man is the name of the robot created by Dr.Light, the same doctor who apparently used to work for Dr.Wily, I´m not sure if this is actually part of the story or it´s only on the NES, but Dr.Wily apparently got mad because none of his creations/jobs made him popular, so in this game, he returns after 2 previous defeats, he tried to conquer the world 2 previous times but he got defeated by Mega Man, the same robot that Dr.Light created, and in this game you have to stop his evil plan.
Difficulty : as I said before, this game is VERY HARD, if you are looking for a very hard platform game, this game is a very good choice.
