Respect the Pipe and Read the Review   Legin32
Overall: Final Fight. Where do I begin with this gem. Do I start with the well known trivia that the game was originally going to be a Street Fighter game called Street Fighter 89? Or do I inform the uneducated about this games ties with the Street Fighter games? Well, I might spice up the story section a bit with a bit of back story about the games ties with the Street Fighter series. Now let's be honest here if you have never played a Final Fight game ever you have never played fully enjoyed a beat 'em up. This game is a great classic though I never got to play it when it was out in the arcades. Many people might be aware of the Super Nintendo port of this game and not know about the original arcade game. The port was a good game on its own but there is just something about the original arcade version that console ports will never truly recapture. Also the Super Nintendo port cut out a whole level. The level where you fight Rolento is no where to be seen. Now I will say that the experience may be different depending on who you choose to play as. I highly suggest if you have played any beat em up to play this game. I mean it. Seriously play it.
Graphics: Okay this game has an arcady look to it; but don't take that as a bad thing it is part of the games charm. This game has some pretty dang good graphics considering how old it is, but that can be said about most every arcade game. Any way the look and feel of this game just takes me back to when I was little and watching the big kids play a game like this one in my local mall's arcade. I will say this though because I played this on my computer when there was just a bit too much on the screen at the same time I did experience some slow down which did lead to some unfair deaths; but since I played it on vizzed which is pretty much just an emulator I had all the Credits I could handle. Shh don't tell anyone. Any way the graphics of this game is one of the reasons I am so fond of it. It takes me back to a simpler time.
Sound: Capcom knows their way around a video game soundtrack and I must say this is one of their bests in my opinion. From the Metro City Slums to The Penthouse level every track in the game has it's own feel and there for will most likely get stuck in your head weeks even months after you play this game. In fact as I write up this review. The music is infectious like the plague. The sound effects are also really good. When you break something it sounds awesome when you hit guys it sounds good when you pile drive bad dudes into the ground it sounds cool. Ohh you didn't now about the grabs in this game? Yeah there are freaking awesome grabs. This is the first game I can remember that did digitized voices well. (A little tip from your old pal Legin32 here, play as Haggar) When playing as Haggar just do a jump attack and see what I mean. I will warn you one last time.....This music will stick in your head for weeks.
Addictiveness: Okay I owned the Super Nintendo port of this game when I was younger and I can remember playing this game all the time and not getting very far because I as you know a little kid who didn't now how to strategize in a beat 'em up. Those memories are what drove me to play this game again after years of not playing it (I call those years the Dark Ages) and when I did I sat in my computer chair for close to three hours playing this game from start to end. This game is so simple and yet so fun that you loose track of time and hours just fly by. By the end of the game though I did not think of that time as wasted. I experienced the end of a game that I loved as a little kid. So to put it bluntly you better not play this game if you don't plan on giving it a couple of hours. I am being dead serious here. Go big or go home.
Story: Now most beat 'em ups aren't really rich in the way of story and this one is no different. It is a simple plot but still a powerful on. The plot is that Mayor Mike Haggar's Daughter Jessica is kidnapped by The Mad Gear Gangand it is up to Haggar, Cody Jessica's boyfriend, and Guy Cody's friend to go save her from the nefarious leader of The Mad Gears, Belgerz. Now Belgerz is a guy in a wheelchair with a crossbow. Does it seem unfair that you are fighting a  guy in a wheelchair? No it is completely fair he is a lying faker. He gets his just desserts when you finally beat him.the story is really nothing to shake a stick at but what is impressive is the connections with the Street Fighter games. Now before Mike Haggar became mayor of Metro City he was a wrestler. Guess who his rival was. ZANGIEF. Haggar was the basis for Zangiefs move the spinning lariat. The story goes that Zangief saw one of Haggar's wrestling matches and decided to use the spinning lariat as his own so in retaliation HAggar adopted the spinning pile driver.  Isn't that neat! Yeah bot to mention Ken and Guy in the Street Fighter series. See this is why I love Capcom. Their game weave a rich tapestry of story with other game series they make. Man If they could just get it together and be great again.....
Depth: This game isn't very long at all it is time consuming though if that makes any sense. The game is a classic arcade beat 'em up so it isn't going to be twelve hours long or something crazy like that. What it is though is a fun two to three hour romp through numerous bad guys and cool bosses. This game is well worth the time it takes to beat. And with  unlimited credits there is no excuse to get a game over. Unless you like a challenge. What it lacks in depth it makes up for in fun.
Difficulty: Now this is the one I had a hard time giving a rating on. The game itself isn't very hard but it can get frustrating. Like Rolento's stage has a stage hazard that can sometimes be a bit cheap. And the double Andore fight is stupidly harder than it needs to be; but it is still not impossibly hard. The difficulty is at the perfect level where it is challenging but not maddening to the point of putting your fist through the screen. The game might be easier depending on what character you play as through the game. I played through the whole game as Haggar and found it delightfully challenging. I am unsure if it is any easier as Cody or Guy but I do know Cody is kind of a normal speed character and Guy is faster; but Haggar is the freaking man. Seriously play as Haggar. You won't regret it. I promise. The last area does kind of rev up the difficulty a bit but that's only because it's the last level and rightfully should be difficult.

Final fight Arcade/Street fighter 89 review   SuperCrash64
Alright Final fight. For most of you that didn't know Final fight was originally intended to be A squeal to street fighter 2  Called Street fighter 89 It would feature 3 characters Which is Guy ,Cody, And The  Retired Pro wrestler Mike Hagger  Who is mayor of Metro City . But because the Game Felt and Played so Differently than Street fighter 2  Cap com changed it from Being Street fighter 89 And a squeal to Street fighter 2 to the game to its own game franchise Called Final fight . Pretty much The Game Felt More true to a beat em up game. Then rather 1 on 1 fighting environment .Regardless the game ended up being 1 of the most successful games that cap com had. It also brought many changes and new tunes that would be in later on street fighter games. They would even add The final fight characters And Some Street fighter 2 characters  in Final fight and The Street fighter games in an attempt to cross them over. Enter the Final Fight Arcade/Street Fighter 89 review.
Plot The Retired Pro wrestler from Saturday night slam.masters  video game Mike Hagger  Got elected the new mayor of A new place Called Metro city .Metro city was a crime capital that suffered from Violence and Death for many years. As the Problem of the violence and chaos Was the huge gang Known as the Mad gear which controls all the major crimes metro city. When They had found out Mike hagger Was planning to get rid of them they quickly took action of this case and to try and make Mike hagger the new mayor under their control.Mike hagger had a daughter By the name of Jessica. So 1 night or day later The Mad Gear took and Kidnapped Jessica so they decided To Call up Mayor Mike Hagger . And offer a deal with him. Mike hagger Said hello Mr Hagger here. Mad gear went He he Mr Hagger so pleased to meet your aquiteance I  believe you know who  I am.  wait don't hang up.we Have a little business proclamation ... your daughter! For your cooperation. Mike hagger responded what who is this wheres Jessica. Mad gear said not so fast mike turn on your tv .So mike hagger turned on  his tv responded in rage to what he saw . He cussed at them and said what have you done to Jessica.
the mad gear responded nothing yet but we enjoy the opportunity listen to reason why make your job more difficult just let us do as we please just like the mayor before you did. So guy and Cody found out and decided rescue Jessica.  So the main plot of final fight is to defeat the mad gear in 5 different levels and rescue Jessica.
Graphics Looking at this classic from the ages Its good old fashion 2d that you can Accept  All sprites look great And very well detailed They look nicely done. Stages also Look like they had gotten drunked Flamed banished and deserted Which is a great example of What mad gear has done to metro city . Graphics gets a 10 this is excellent looking graphics for the time being it was released and the stages look very true and follow up very well with what  criminal stuff and violence has Happened to metro city
Sound is another great example of just how freaking billy bad butt this game is. There is a good variety of sound effects That happen when you punch people do a special move. And other stuff in there.Soundtrack This soundtrack is another great dark and bass like theme and plus it shows What the cps system is capable of doing when having a dark theme in t There are a lot of songs that play when you are in the stages. And all have a good dark theme and tune to it as if the Mad gear are lurking in the shadows waiting to kill u. Cap com even remade or took some of the soundtrack. And used it for the newer street fighter games . Re lento,s street fighter alpha 2 theme is an example of how cap com remade a song off of this game They took and remixed the bay area theme for Re lento in street fighter alpha 2.   Sound gets a 10 it has a nice dark soundtrack and a variety of sound effects infact they took some songs and remixed in the later street fighter games.
Addictiveness final fight has been addicting over the many years its been around for the main challenge of the game makes it fun and with the nice soundtrack really makes this game worth while. Addictiveness gets a 7 this would be something I would probably play casually though.
Story Explained it in plot  this is a nice storyline I will rate it a 7
Depth This game offers a bunch of enemies on screen about 20 enemies appear at once then 20 more appear. It really makes the game keep its touch after all its years. Even though theres only 5 levels there filled with a lot of enemies that will keep you pretty busy for about a few hours So Depth would get a 6 in my case.
Difficulty 8 the main challenge of the enemies and bosses are  strong fast and pretty powerful. Then again like the intro plot Says Mad gear is a huge gang So what could you expect after reading that in the intro . The controls work fine you use only 3 buttons for the game main attacks again they are very responsive.
Overall This may had not been what cap com had expected for their Squeal to street fighter 2 but it was totally a successful game  ratings 9.2 Good visuals nice dark music. Hard game play but it does keep the game fun so its acceptable  Nice ending  Music ended up getting remixed in street fighter alpha 2 and still continues to be remixed now  that's it for this review

Final Fight (Arcade) Review   acam

Final Fight (Arcade) Review

For almost 24 years, the game Final Fight has been one of the most popular games of the Arcade Generation. Not only has this game been copied and ported to numerous platforms, but it also has spawned a few spin offs and sequels. Double Dragon might have created the basis for the “Beat ‘Em Up” genre, but this game defined it. Anyway, this game was released in December 1989 for the Arcade systems by Capcom. With that, we go on to the review…

I usually don’t go over the story first, but I felt the need to do so now because it is not only significant, but it is also fairly interesting. The synopsis of the story is that newly-elected Metro City mayor and “former Street Fighter” (a weak attempt by Capcom to link this game to the Street Fighter franchise), Mike Haggar has pledged to combat the gang problem in the city. The dominant gang, Mad Gear, catches wind of this and tries to shut him up with a “regular bonus” to his salary. As insurance, the Mad Gears kidnap Mike’s daughter, Jessica. Instead of rolling over, Haggar decides to take to the streets, take some bare-fisted revenge, and save Jessica from the gang. Jessica’s boyfriend, Cody hears about the kidnapping and vows to make the Mad Gear pay, with his friend Guy providing backup. All in all, not a very deep story, but it works well with the genre.

The graphics in the game are top-notch. The game is very polished and fluid graphically. Every last character is very realistic looking, from the Mayor himself to the Andre the Giant knockoffs that you’ll have to fight. Surprisingly, this might be one of the first video games to actually feature blood. The stages themselves are very intricate and impressive for the game’s time.

The sound is pretty good too. The music is very catchy, and all of the sounds seem to fit their situations. My favorite theme in the game is the first theme of the Bay Area theme. Not much more that I can say on this subject.

The difficulty is rather balanced, while the replay value is pretty high. The thugs start out weak and progressively get stronger. Some bosses are really tough, too.  Overall though, I find myself coming back to this game time and time again. There is a special place in my heart for this game. I would highly recommend this game.

This ends my review of the Arcade version of Final Fight. Three more things; Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, and Happy Anniversary, Vizzed!

Streets of Rage but with the Street Fighter characters   classgame
So from what I understand from another review this was meant to be a follow-up to Street Fighter 2 but the format wasn't right so it's a kind of different game altogether, oh sure we have characters from the street fighter format, I actually prefer this over that, and yeah this is very similar to Streets of Rage in a way I'll explain.
Gameplay and Story: So there's this retired wrestler who is now the mayor Metro City..... promising to rid the city of Mad Gear a well known Gang that's been terrorizing the city for some time(not the same city that Inspector Gadget Lives in obviously, and also not the same criminal organization but then again I think these wrestler would be more useful than Gadget would....man I can't imagine the scandal that would come out if they found out that Penny was the one who really solved....you know I need to try and play one of those IG games before I rant in that direction) and I think they may have predicted Governor Venture here, so it's sometime in the 1990s (though the Sega CD says 1993) and the Mayor gets a call from the leader of this gang that he is trying to eradicate, they tell him to back off and let them keep being a-holes and his daughter will live this gets pretty personal not just for the mayor but also for Cody who is Jessica's boyfriend, so now they have to take on the gangs themselves, and Haggard is going along for the ride (oh and Guy is there because Jessica's his friend too? yeah that's what the intro of the game said).
Graphics: The Graphics in this game are really impressive but for some reason I feel like they hadn't been able to get creative in the design department, I swear to god a couple of the punk designs look similar to the Streets of Rage characters, and some of them are caricatures of Wrestlers that were either alive or relevant at the time (yeah Andore isn't fooling me) and I swear to god, the female members of the gang am I the only person that thinks they look like Cyndi Lauper? (hey I wouldn't be surprised if you consider what she has done for the Wrestling industry, she really should be in the hall of fame) you know I wonder had they done the game later would they have included the Harts or Chyna or Dwayne Johnson or John Cena? nah I doubt they would have included the latter two. Also the backgrounds look fantastic (btw which state IS Metro City in anyway? the only clue is that it's on the Atlantic Ocean and there's a Bay area....huh? but at least the Ocean looks good and wait a minute the end credits scene looks similar tot he end credit scene in Cadillacs and Dinosaurs with two characters just walking and then getting picked up..okay I think I got an answer, apparently they are in New York as at one point we see the Statue of Liberty in the background, and just by looking at the backgrounds in stage 6, god I miss the old Holiday Inn in Grand Forks, I don't think they had this game but that was a kick in the 90s.
Soundtrack: Well I can definitely say they linger for awhile, I definitely like the sound made when inserting a coin
Addictive: Of course I keep coming back for more I've even attempted the sequel games, I haven't played final Fight Revenge but I bet like a majority of the MAMES here it probably doesn't work
Depth: There are six stages, plus two bonus rounds plus the final stages where we fight off the main boss they're all about equal length
Difficulty: This isn't very difficult (it's a coin-op game on the internet at least here I have time and a chance to finish the game) however if anything I wish that this was one of those games where you can have the characters run because these characters move rather slowly, also what I do like is that they offer you a chance to change characters in the continue scene (man Haggard is so strong he had to be bound with chains near the dynomite), something I wish that TMNT could have offered, and even more so I wish the other versions of the Simpsons arcade game were playable here because at least they give you that offer since you can't change the RetroArch controls, also I wish the game offered the same land function Streets of Rage has that's really been missing here
Post Review Follow-up: So contrary to what you've seen in the review I'm not a wrestling fan, I know of these wrestlers I'm old enough to remember when Viewers Choice Pay Per View used to advertise these Wrestling Events (most of them WWF related). Also I'm not really doing Summer gaming Mame-ories this year because I've run dry of coin-op games I played in hotels during the summer, I might just reserve Sundays for console and Coin-op, which is convenient because I'm running out of PC games to review (ones that I've played and there are some that don't have a page here yet and I suggested them at the end of the last TdV and they haven't shown up, why?), other than that, this was a fun game to play, maybe I should take more advantage of sites that do offer coin-op games (I still need to play Golden Axe II again for coin-op because why haven't I done a review for this?) also I've had my Genesis mini for almost a year I haven't even come close to finishing most of the games on there...
This concludes my review, join me tomorrow when I review: Math Munchers Deluxe...man doing this one took me forever (I had to replay while typing this up, now I have to check the YDKJ intros and do the silent Sunday playing of Arthur's Teacher Trouble (I'll review that too one day don't worry) not to mention tea to drink my usual sunday chores and a bunch of youtube videos to watch since god knows where I'll be at by the time the Bombers kick off tomorrow

Either that the music is grating and the locations are dull. Very very overrated game.
dragonslayer444 05-22-16 - 05:40 AM
Every time I play Final Fight all it makes me want to do is play Streets of Rage any of them. Final Final compared to the mighty Streets Of Rage is a very poor, very very substandard Side scrolling beat em up that gets boring quickly, it does not help.
