The Great 007 Kevric
User Description: This game was the very first 007 game that I ever played on the N64 (not even noticing the critically acclaimed GoldenEye). What struck me the most was the phenomenal storytelling that the game offered. It was very theatrical; unlike anything I've ever played before. The story was very easy for me to follow and very well scripted for a game that came out later in the new millennium. The game offered three different playable modes including Story Mode, Quick Play, and of course Multiplayer. I never really got the chance to play the MP version of the game with friends but I'm sure it was just like the version in GoldenEye.
Gameplay: The Story Mode of this game was similar to Pierce Brosnan's latest 007 movie (at the time), which allowed you to play as James Bond and let you play missions as seen on the big screen. Although the graphics were quite stunning, the gameplay was somehow distasteful because it didn't quite matched that of the GoldenEye game that was released two years earlier. This being the first 007 game I've ever played, I always thought that this game was released before GoldenEye based on the gameplay experience. It wasn't until I played the game with friends that I realized it was one of the first 007 games released for the N64. Still, the game was cut from the same cloth as GoldenEye, so there was a lot of sneaking, secret identities, and rescuing hostages. However, there are some control issues that really start to annoy. One control being the auto-aim, which will not work the way you want it to in some of the levels. Sometimes you will count on it to sight someone in but then it fails on you, and other times it sort of just takes over, letting you kill the guys in the distance while ignoring the guys who are right in front of your face. It is definitely more of a run-N-gun type game then a more stealthy approach that is expected of a 007 game.
Gadgets: What's a Bond game without gadgets? Everyone knows that James Bond always carries around his trusty watch gadget, and in this game it has a few more functions. It has a laser that can cut through any lock that is blocking your path, a stun function that electrocutes your enemies for a brief period, a dart function that paralyzes your enemies for a brief period, and a grappling hook to get you to those hard-to-reach places. You also see some familiar weapons, such as the silenced pistol, assault rifles, and sniper rifles. Also, seeing that the enemies never take cover when you shoot at them, eliminating your enemies has never been easier, which should lead to some enjoyable gameplay. :)
Vizzed Version: I strongly recommend using some kind of PC controller in order to play this game because their are a lot of buttons involved during gameplay. It would be much easier and much more enjoyable if you had a PS, Xbox, or even an N64 controller that you can use for your PC. Also, I've had some levels blackout on me so you may not be able to play some of the missions. I guess it just depends on what kind of PC you have or that just may be something on Vizzed. Hopefully, you'll figure it out and enjoy as much of this game as possible!
