So I'm supposed to be getting up early tomorrow, yet here I am on Vizzed at 5:20 AM. Why? I can't sleep.

See when I can't sleep at night I usually either get on Vizzed or I play something on my PS4 or PS Vita. More often than not I get on here and look for places to post or something, mostly because it's easier to get on and off of Vizzed quickly than it is to start and stop a game quickly. After all, I could get sleepy at any moment, right? The ironic thing is that looking at a screen is supposed to increase the inability to sleep, so more than likely I'm keeping myself awake even longer than I would have been to begin with. Oh well, I'd rather lose two hours of sleep while having fun than one hour while staring at the insides of my eyelids.


So what do you do when you can't sleep?

Tonight/this morning, I casually got up from my chair and walked through our flat. When it started getting light, I went out to the terrace and looked down on the early birds already running or going to the beach for a top spot, then later on how the bus service started, and all that fauna you don't believe it exists at such hours.

On normal circumstances, I mostly stay doing things on my computer, like watching videos, playing games or writing things. I don't like playing overnight on my PS4, it makes just too much noise. 

And well, depending on the time and what I've had for dinner, I may eat something, mostly Pringles, as I watch something. If there's something on TV I could watch, like tennis or Indycar, then I could totally aim for it as well, but most of the times is videos on my computer.

Well, I play Sonic games on my PS3. And sometimes Dragon Ball Xenoverse. Yeah, that's how my night goes. Not really much.

Well talk to my friends like see who is on the board, and see who is still up. Or maybe watch something like the scariest places on earth. Which is like my favourite TV show in all honesty I shouldn't be watching it during the night at times, but um.......anything can happen. Anyways I mostly would like talk to my friends or how many are still up their time. And something random too at one point I did layout pretty weird right? XD

Aw...I always hate those nights! Yes, I have often done the same thing myself, staying up watching hours of game theory, playing pokemon pearl or now back to vizzed. I honestly don't know what you really should do.I have heard that staring at a blue screen can make you feel more awake and not fall asleep. (Maybe we should get a color change on vizzed). Perhaps reading a book might actually be better, but who really wants to do that? Well, I do read my BIBLE though sometimes when that happens...But most of the time just watching tv, which has honestly been a downfall to my sleep. Especially when I started watching the Game Theory on Five Nights at Freddy's (never played the game). Yeah, that's still got me messed up a bit. Those stupid nightmare animatronics did not help one bit! I tend to like watching cartoons the best before bed, as they make me probably going to sleep the easiest. They sort of calm me to sleep, I guess you could say.

I just usually go on my 3DS and lay on my side on my bed. Whenever I start to let go of my 3DS and it almost falls out of my hands is when I know I'm tired and I just keep my eyes closed until I sleep, heh.

This happens pretty often for me lel. And there's not much I can do except wait until I just fall asleep. During that time I either just listen to the radio or RP myself to sleep. Or do both at the same time. Yes I am weird :v. 

My parents don't allow me to be on the computer at night so I can't YT binge before I fall asleep unfortunately ;w;

Normally I can't sleep at all, but when this happens, I usually just lie down and try to sleep, even if it takes an hour to fall asleep, and I'm not tired, I just try my hardest to fall asleep, and turning on the fan usually helps me, even if I don't need it. Sometimes I might play a game on my phone, but usually that will only make me less tired.

Eirinn : So first thing first, computer screens of ANY kind keep you up for at least 30 minutes after you get off them. That might be one of the causes of your personal insomnia.

My own insomnia stems from a mixture of physical pain,ADHD and PTSD. So I'm generally awake anyway. What I do about it usually depends on what I have to do the next day and how physically exhausted I am.

I usually try and enter sleep paralysis (Where your body is asleep and resting but your mind is awake (You can even dream.)) Stare at blank space, go for a midnight ( or later ) stroll or play a game or something.

I had this issue last night, which is sad since I slept a lot perfectly fine the night before. As a result, I turned on my TV and watched some Friends and Fresh Prince of Belgium Air, and when I got bored with, I just move around and walk in my room. 

That's what I do on days when I don't have school. On days when I do have school, I just lay on my bed and play with my imagination to pass time until I end up falling asleep.

I have pretty bad issues when it comes to falling or staying asleep, so I feel your pain on this.

Most nights I literally have to keep myself preoccupied until I'm falling asleep sitting up / standing before I even lay down, or laying down trying to fall asleep actually makes it harder to do so. My mind has the awful habit of constantly assuming the worst case scenario for every single thought that crosses my mind, leading to unwarranted anxiety, especially when there's no way to distract my self from it. On top of that, all the years of drug abuse and the damage it's done to me physically and psychologically, my sleep patterns are beyond destroyed. I spent so many years being dope sick half the time, my body has become some what used to not sleeping any where near how much it should, so it's incredibly difficult to get it back to how it used to be ( when you're dope sick, at least as bad off as I was, you're lucky to sleep 30 min in any given 24 hour period, and this could go on for 3 - 5 days, some times more ). My lower back is in constant pain, so it's extremely difficult for me to get comfortable enough to fall asleep to begin with unless I'm so exhausted the pain actually can't keep me up any longer. Ok, that's enough complaining for one post lol

As for what I do when I can't sleep, I'm almost always on Vizzed. Obviously I've spent this entire month either posting or doing reviews / CP actions for the TdV, but in a normal month I'm generally always playing games to record videos to submit to the site's YouTube channel, and taking screen shots to submit to the site as well. If I'm not on Vizzed ( well, if I am or not, we're on Skype all the time any way lol ), I'm generally on Skype talking with my girl who will stay up with me the best she can when ever I can't sleep. Some times I'll just listen to music, though the music I like is generally so angry or depressing, it probably makes it harder to fall asleep on top of the issue I'm already having lol. If I'm really feeling lazy or apathetic, I'll just lay in bed staring at the wall or ceiling until my eyes finally get too heavy to hold open, though I try to avoid doing that the best I can, seeing as how it takes an hour or two to fall asleep like that, if not more time. Some times if the insomnia is really bad, I'll go for a run or take the dog for a walk just to try and wear myself down to sleep a little while later.

Also, I tend to wake up every hour or two through out the night, but thankfully it's for the most part not too hard for me to fall asleep again as long as I lay back down and try to sleep within ten or fifteen minutes of waking up. I'm sure the fact I wake up so often really prohibits my body and / or mind from getting the rest it really needs. I have a very complicated love-hate relationship with sleep XD

Watch one of those asmr videos. They work wonders for me (I have no idea why but whatever). If not that I watch golf videos as they are so boring that I instantly want to go to sleep again. I never really have an issue with sleeping but I do get foot cramps very easily so I have to lie very still. It is very annoying.

EX Palen : Yeah, we have window units instead of central air, so between that and my fan running I can't even hear my PS4. Otherwise the fan is pretty loud. Usually I'm not sleeping in the room with my PS4 though, so I'm more apt to play on the PS Vita at night in bed.


woohoo134 : I guess I should have anticipated this many people saying they played games when they couldn't sleep, I mean this is a gamer site mostly, so... But my games of choice at night are usually Innocent Life (a Harvest Moon game) or Harvest Moon: Back To Nature. They're easy to access since they're on my PS Vita which I basically keep running 24/7 so I can press one button and the game is ready to play. Also they're calm so it's relaxing.


Eniitan : Oh gosh, that really doesn't sound like a show to watch before going to bed. xD But yeah, Vizzed is a big go-to for me when I can't sleep. You're usually on then anyway, so I have someone to talk to. Lol


FaithFighter : Game Theory?? :3 I love that show! Lol There's some really interesting stuff on there, but I have no idea how he comes up with so many ideas. And I do sometimes pray when I can't sleep, but while it's certainly a good use of my time (better than sleeping even), I usually end up just as wide awake afterward as I was before.

And yeah, these screens do wake you up more but it's terrible lying there bored and unable to sleep that long, so I give up and just enjoy the time instead. Lol


Lexatom : Sounds like my mom. She does the exact same thing (3DS and all). I don't have to get myself that sleepy, I just have trouble sleeping sometimes because of how messed up my schedule is. I may go to bed at six AM one night/day and the next night go to bed at midnight. That makes it hard to sleep when you actually want to.


ZeeTee : No phone games in bed? :/ WHY WORLD??? also assuming you mean you RP in your mind, I do the same sometimes when I really need to sleep. However if you mean you totally get up and dress up and act out stories then not so much. *imagines ZeeTee doing a reenactment of the masterclass trailer as she tries to get sleepy*


zanderlex : Fan is a must. But forcing yourself to sleep? I can't do it, man. I've tried and literally laid awake for several hours. Idk how you do it.


Frodlex : Oh yeah, I know it man. But I don't actually struggle with insomnia, I just can't get my life schedule balanced out. As a result (as I said to Lexatom) I end up getting in bed at six AM one time and then that night I'm getting in bed at midnight. As a result I usually can't go to sleep that early (midnight). It's hard sleeping until noon and then going to bed at a reasonable hour the next night.


AriaAngelDream : I try to do the same (imagination) sometimes, but I have a 50/50 chance of it putting me to sleep or keeping me awake even later because it won't shut down. Lol


Mynamescox44 : Or writing reviews. lol But yikes man, that's pretty rough. :/ It sounds like we do similar things when we can't sleep, only my gaming is purely selfish (can the words purely and selfish go together?) since I don't upload any of it. :3 Also I sometimes end up spreeing a bit BECAUSE I can't sleep. Most spree days are like that actually. Yeah, wait until I have sleep deprivation to talk a lot. That could be dangerous.


DylanMcKaig : I actually love golf so that wouldn't work for me. Though playing a golf game would probably relax me until I was sleepy...I need to try this now. Lol

Usually what I do is either game, watch anime, or eat food or chill with friends.

Eirinn : I know right? I know I shouldn't be watching it before I go to bed, but I love watching the show way to much! I just make sure if I can not to watch it during the nights. So by nights I would be rewatching mark playing five nights at Freddy's instead. But, its hard not to watch something that you really like to watch during the day... XD

I've developed the perfect routine for this sort of thing. First comes the "Gah, I'll just see whether or not moving helps," phase, which never does. Sometimes I'll have just forgotten to close my eyes, even though that's kind of silly, it happens.

Then, other times, writing a little bit (or even posting a time or two ^u^) will help my brain to slow down by putting some thoughts on to the screen. That's normally my best option, I'm just really lazy and hate having to actually go through the effort of booting up my computer and all that. But if that doesn't work, as cheesy as it sounds, my best bet is usually to actually look up "How to fall asleep," and I'll get so bored from that that I'll just pass out. I mean, at first it was just that it's so obvious, but at some point I began to be able to memorize those articles by heart. xD

Counting sheep doesn't work for me at all, or any of the normal stuff, I lose focus way too easily and I need something that I can actually pay attention to. 

YoungDrizzyOTE : Sadly, except for like two people on here, all of my friends go to sleep several hours before I even try usually. And Animé I have no access to (another unfortunate thing), but gaming is a go. Lol


Eniitan : "its hard not to watch something that you really like to watch during the day" That's true too. Hence why I find myself watching Game Theory at three AM or gameplay trailers. xD


Titan127 : Lol! That first step though. xD So basically you bore yourself to sleep. Well I mean it seems like it would be more effective than entertaining yourself to sleep since you aren't engaged by it. Like I said, I think my actions just keep me awake longer but oh well, I enjoy them. Lol

Eirinn : Yeah, I have to keep myself from just doing stuff until I really start to feel tired, honestly. Because it's tempting, once I turn on my laptop, to just browse vizzed, imgur, or other websites until I physically can't.

I like snuggling with my dog though, which is another reason that I always do step one first, because she's soft and sweet and, when tired, cuddly. Honestly, I should be in bed right now, but I'm not sleepy and don't feel like going to sleep yet so I'm on here, lol. Yay for procrastination!

I personally waste time on Facebook and Reddit, and then sometimes I take melatonin, depending on the current time and whether I have to do anything the next day. (sometimes it makes me feel groggy the next day, even though it's to reset your sleep-wake cycle) Sometimes I play games online as well.

I usually talk to my friends from here on other means of communication. I also look at the new posts page to read some posts and to see what are some good threads to possibly post in the next day. I also look up stupid memes so I can laugh myself to sleep. This happens a lot with me, so I'm really experienced in this lol.
