So, I just got home from the hospital after spending the day with her for a day surgery. My daughter wears glasses and has an eye that turns inward. The optometrist (and other specialists) we went to said that it is possible to fix this so we spent 6 months putting a patch over one of her eyes (the strong one) for several hours a day in order to get her eyes up to equal strength. After that it was a surgery to finalize the correction that her eyes needed to be properly balanced. That's what we did today.

The surgery was pretty standard and went well according to the surgeon. Now we're back home and resting and recovering. I'm just glad it is over and we can start to move on. She'll still need to wear glasses but thankfully her eyes will now be balanced so she won't have to feel embarrassed by that and her vision won't be harmed by having her eyes being crossed.

It's been a long day though. I'm sure for her too but she slept for half of it

Well, I'm glad to hear everything turned out alright! I understand how she could've felt, I went under surgery at a young age, and although it wasn't on my eyes, I was still a little bit scared. Again, glad to hear that her, and the rest of your family is doing well. Here's hopes that she has a speedy recovery!

I used to have eye problems but mine were never that bad. Of course though my eye sight is really still quite bad while your daughter's eyesight is now probably good. I hope she recovers soon.

Happy to hear everything went well. Eyesight is a pretty important factor in how you can live your life. I'm sure you and your daughter both are happy it's finally done and over with. I wish your family the best, and hope she heals up as quickly as possible.

Personally I never had surgery to my recollection, but it doesn't sound that fun. I have bad eyesight myself (nearsighted) and I have the choice of having surgery if my eyes stabilize in my 20s, but I definitely don't look forward to it :p.

I hope your daughter recovers :/. And like gets used to her more balanced eyesight xp.

Yeah, the surgery itself wasn't really the tough part. The tough part is trying to get eyedrops into her eyes 4 times a day. I don't see that working out too well honestly. She was so brave for the surgery and now it's a battle of wills getting drops done. Still, it should only take a week and hopefully all will be well after that.

geeogree : I,m glad to hear that everything went alright with your daughter,s surgery, when I was a kid my right eye used to role into my head and I had to have surgery in order to have the problem corrected, although I don,t remember how old I was at the time I know that I was under 8 years old and had to wear a patch over my right eye until it healed but I did not have to wear glasses. I hope that she is able to fully recover from her surgery

Glad to hear it went good! I actually heard from another friend today that her boyfriend had to have eye surgery at a young age to correct his eye-sight, so apparently it's more common than I thought.

Oh, and good luck. As a parent I can't imagine it's easy convincing a small child, "you NEED this!" haha.

Thanks for sharing, sir. I'm truly happy for your daughter. Can you tell me the specifics of you daughter's condition? (symptoms, behaviors, etc.) I'd be really interested in hearing. Thanks for your input, sir.

I'm glad her surgery went well. ^^ That must be a blessing to you guys that she got home safe, and that everything went smoothly.

You guys going to get her some eyes-cream today? :3

I'm glad that the surgery went well and that she's doing alright.

I've never had to wait in a waiting room for someone else, but it sounds like it was pretty boring.

I hope she cooperates more with the eyedrops.

I honestly misread the title as 'Sugar' instead of 'Surgery'... And then I felt bad for misreading it but also felt bad for her because it wasn't sugar after all

Quick, give her some sugary things

yoshirulez: we have been. It's about the only way we can get her to sit still long enough to get drops in her eyes. She'll have more chocolate and candy by the time this week is over as she has had all year previous

Thankfully the bribery is working and the eye drop fight is much less dramatic.

Glad to hear things turned out well for her. As someone who can't stand contact with my eyes and could never bring myself to poke my eye everyday and wear contacts, I'd like to offer some advice for the eyedrops. I actually now have to take drops every day to keep my ocular pressure in check. The biggest thing that helps me is to stare in the opposite direction while the drops are used. What I mean is if the drop is about to enter her left eye, then stand on her right side and have open her eyes wide while she stares off to the left, away from it all. You could already be doing this, but it actually took me several times before I observed that looking "away" from the drop helped. Maybe it's just me, but that's my advice to you. I think it helps because the biggest problem with the drops is it being so close to your eye. By looking away you can seemingly create a larger distance between your eye and drop. And then it's in before you know it! Good luck!

That's a sign of relief. Good thing it went well.

Just a quick question. How did your daughter get that condition of having one eye inward? Was she born with it or did it develop overtime?

starwars293 : well, it is a bit of both honestly. The condition happens at different ages for different people. Sometimes it can show up from birth but in others it happens more often between 3 and 5 years old. A similar thing happened when I was her age but after I patched one eye and then got glasses it cleared up and I don't have the problem anymore. My daughter wasn't as lucky though. Glasses didn't end up fixing the problem permanently and her eye ended up turning in after a while with glasses. Thus the surgery. It's mostly cosmetic but does help maintain her eye site to a certain degree as well. We did it partially because she was getting pretty upset when people would ask her about her eye (or her patch) and she had to explain it. Most people are fine with it but it did make her self-conscious after a while.
