This pisses me off to no end, they recently did something similar in making Apple block the GBA4ios app, and I thought this could happen eventually. I mean seriously though, Nintendo, your logic is flawed to no end.

These games aren't costing you anything, because guess what, you don't even
produce them anymore. Anything being sold now is either on the e-shop (where these games will make very limited profits in any case, mainly due to ridiculous overpricing), or via resale from companies such as Game Stop or just people you can buy them off of.

What these games being here would do is advertise the franchises, and then people might become interested in the newer games.

Cha-ching. Profits from a new 3DS or 3DS XL plus a game or three in Nintendo's pockets. Someone who's heard of the games and has some friends who play it? Try an older version on Vizzed, and you get the same results.

I mean, I honestly considered not buying any more Nintendo products after seeing this, but unfortunately they've got me hooked at this point. If I ever find a way, I'll try and donate to this site, since I know there's already trouble keeping it afloat, and this is a hammer-blow to that.

Remember when Nintendo actually cared about the players and what they thought? Yeah, I'm not so sure they do anymore. And I lost a Fire Emblem: Sacred Stones file because of their corrupt actions. This is going to cost them profits due to various factors as well as the cost of a likely very expensive lawyer.

CthulWho : I know but it's just there are some games that are not being sold on e-shop that's what I mean, yes you are right those games are Nintendo property but the only thing mentioned was that you can't make money off them nor can you make them available for free when they're new and still available which many of them are not, also not to mention David was only making money on running the site to keep it going due to it's design so that's fine not the games I'm certain, cause we still buy and play their games today don't we? (the newer ones)

Because Nintendo is losing so much revenue from games that have been obselete for 10+ years, right? Give me a break.

My reaction summed up in a video:

[sigh]

Seriously people. Nintendo has the legal right to do this. They don't need any other reason other than the fact that they own the rights to all of those games.

David is lucky he didn't get sued or shut down completely.

Feel free to hate on Nintendo for this but they didn't do anything they don't have the right to do.

Also, there are lots of other games to play on this site. Just because Nintendo's games are gone doesn't mean life is over. Spread some ointment on that butthurt.

I'm both surprised and pissed about the people that, despite what Nintendo has just done, still ask for seventh generation consoles or games to be added to Vizzed. There are even more legal issues with those than with the games Nintendo just asked to remove.

Geeo is right, we should appreciate Nintendo formally asked David to remove those games instead of taking more serious actions. Also, it's highly appreciated that Hostgator hasn't shut down Vizzed's servers because of this. Out of all the possible outcomes this PREDICTABLE incident could have provoked, we've received the lightest one. Bless our luck for this.

It's also appreciated the users who are still loyal to the site even after admitting they've lost almost all purpose here and are even willing to donate to keep it afloat. We always can take good things out of bad incidents, so let's keep our hopes up. Vizzed has had several ups and downs over its history and has always overcome them, and nothing says that this time it's going to be different.

Tyrian Delirium : In my previous post I also had some misconceptions about the legal standpoint on this matter. Found this site 6 years ago and I never knew... I'm ashamed. It's still upsetting from the players' perspective, though. Unless I buy a console/game/etc 3rd party (no profit for Nintendo) then most of these titles still remain unavailable to be played legally. From the business perspective, they probably don't care. But if I was a developer of one of these games, I'd rather people still know about them and enjoy them than having them fade into the past.

I don't think this is 'all of a sudden,' though. With the Pokemon titles being re-released this year for the anniversary, it's no wonder Nintendo took the time to track down some of the the ROMs with more plays on them. I wouldn't say this was taking away from those purchases, though. I'm still tempted to buy Pkmn Yellow on the 3DS even with free access to ROMs.

For any others who are still curious about the minor details, I found this on Nintendo's site:

http://www.nintendo.com/corp/legal.jsp

Do with this information what you will.

I'm amazed this didn't happen earlier, to be honest. I should probably start getting those complete ROM collection torrents before those get hard to find too.

KPE : Awesome, people can just trade those ID# around. And people who were playing those games before they were taken down can continue playing them. Provided they haven't cleared their history. I never really played the Nintendo games much, I added them to my library but that was pretty much it.

Don't worry the games will have a chance to come back in only more than 50 years! *sarcasm*

"Haven't the Copyrights for Old Games Expired?
U.S. copyright laws state that copyrights owned by corporations are valid for 75 years from the date of first publication. Because video games have been around for less than three decades, the copyrights of all video games will not expire for many decades to come."

https://www.nintendo.com/corp/legal.jsp#helping

More crap:
"What Does Nintendo Think of the Argument that Emulators are Actually Good for Nintendo Because it Promotes the Nintendo Brand to PC Users and Leads to More Sales?
Distribution of an emulator developed to play illegally copied Nintendo software hurts Nintendo's goodwill, the millions of dollars invested in research & development and marketing by Nintendo and its licensees. Substantial damages are caused to Nintendo and its licensees. It is irrelevant whether or not someone profits from the distribution of an emulator. The emulator promotes the play of illegal ROMs , NOT authentic games. Thus, not only does it not lead to more sales, it has the opposite effect and purpose."
and
"People Making Nintendo Emulators and Nintendo ROMs are Helping Publishers by Making Old Games Available that are No Longer Being Sold by the Copyright Owner. This Does Not Hurt Anyone and Allows Gamers to Play Old Favorites. What's the Problem?
The problem is that it's illegal. Copyrights and trademarks of games are corporate assets. If these vintage titles are available far and wide, it undermines the value of this intellectual property and adversely affects the right owner. In addition, the assumption that the games involved are vintage or nostalgia games is incorrect. Nintendo is famous for bringing back to life its popular characters for its newer systems, for example, Mario and Donkey Kong have enjoyed their adventures on all Nintendo platforms, going from coin-op machines to our latest hardware platforms. As a copyright owner, and creator of such famous characters, only Nintendo has the right to benefit from such valuable assets."

Last one stood out the most, considering that they aren't even profiting from the games that were removed. I haven't heard of Pokemon Emerald on a Wii U and I doubt we ever will. I doubt they'll do anything new to the pokemon main series. More spinoffs are all you can hope for,
As for the second quote, the only millions of dollars being hurt are the ones nintendo are too lazy to make. Ninentdo copies and pastes games (pokemon games, at least. Any of the Zelda games are pretty nice and refreshing each one. If only pokemon was like that... And don't get me started on Mario. Why doesn't he lock up bowser so he doesn't have to save the princess again. Why doesn't the princess bust out some butt-kicking like in smash and just destroy bowser?) the same way I copied and pasted the above quotes.

Also, if I walked into a nintendo store and shouted "I HAVE A ROM ON MY PHONE" and played it, could they legally call the cops on me?

I was always curious how long it would take them. I'm still baffled that they didn't take everything that wasn't a hack down. I guess they don't consider those game series big money makers.

All your Nintendo ROM are belong to Cammy White, I already have all N64, SNES, NES, GB, GBC, BSX, GBA and VB ROMs so it doesn't affect me. Ha ha ha ha, you have no chance to remove waste my money. - CAMMS from Cannon Wing
------
Still, I'm surprised Nintendo are still acting like this. I'm surprised they take down a community website's games of 192 and then they don't try to remove ROM sites such as [CENSORED] with larger collections, Nintendo make just about as much sense as BabelFish translator.
