looba : Since you made the effort to comment with the only intention of being right and me being wrong, then sure, you're totally right and I'm completely wrong. My department had no idea what they were talking about the six years I was in law enforcement.  I'm sure your police background helps you with the definitions.

People that do graffiti are both artists and criminals. If you spray paint property that isn't yours it is vandalism, end of story. I am not denying that it is creative and artistic, but that doesn't make it any less of a crime unless you have permission to do it.

I love it when it's done tastefully.  However, creating your masterpiece on the wall of someone else's property is not cool no matter how cool the piece looks.  The cities and towns should actually employ (if they're not doing it already) proper graffiti artists to "fix up" areas with "bad" graffiti by covering it with their own art, but it should somehow "blend" in with the area.  I'm mainly talking about public places like train stations, community centres with walls facing the road etc.  Stay away from private property though.

Im really hoping i dont get in trouble for saying this. but putting it bluntly. If its a dick or a middle finger. Their isnt anything beautiful about that. I see alot of people spry painting stuff like that. But if its done tastefully. like what solar said. Than its a sight to be seen.

I would have to say it really depends on What the graffiti is used for. Some people make amazing works of art using this method, while others....well you can probably figure that out. So I guess that is my opinion of graffiti.

I mostly only see "tags" on train cars, and rude words spray painted under bridges on the support beams. So I really see that "type" of graffiti as pointless. Just looking to the left to see a crudely drawn genital, a name that means nothing to anybody, or a rude word is just annoying if anything. There's no talent, it took no effort, and it just wastes the already intricate beauty of the concrete. It is also is used to mark gang territory, and how "edgy" and "daring" somebody is for doing a badly made symbol or name on a building.


Although I have also seen some beautiful murals and pieces of graffiti on walls in nicer cities. I absolutely LOVE seeing things like that! As long as the owners of buildings being painted are okay with it, I am just fine with it. Mainly because it is actual art, and nobody sees it as harmful. It can actually improve the mood of the surrounding location when done right. Although I wish some of these better graffiti artists also did canvas paintings of their work. Partially because it would get themselves more fame, and because that is one of the most unappreciated forms or art nowadays.
