Sooo I was a kid who never got a handheld device until Grade 7. So my first pokemon game was a spin off. Namely, Pokemon XD. The thing I like, is that while your starter is always Eevee (Take that Pokemon Yellow!), you get to choose which evolution you want.
My first time going through, I went Jolteon because it was the one I was most familiar with and the one that, of course, looked the coolest to little me. Served me well, kind of. I honestly ended up ditching it for Walrein and Ninetales after a while ^.^'
If we're talking favourite starter, then it's going to be Snivy. I like pretty much all the grass type starters, but this one is just my favourite.

I got the first Pokémon game as soon as it came out in my area since it came out around my birthday...and it was the original Pokémon Blue one...I'll be honest as a little kid back then I didn't know anything about types I just went with whatever I thought was the cutest one...therfore my first starter was Squirtle cause I like turtles...My favorite Pokémon though was Articuno...It was so pretty! Especially when the games came out in color!
