Fear the Walking Dead Ep. 5

This is a strange start to the episode. I'm guessing this is the place people are taken to who are trouble makers of some sort. Interesting. And there is Nick.

Dissention among the soldiers. Not a surprise there. Also, Ofelia having a bit of a freakout was interesting.

Quick shot of the work at the hospital and more deceptive talking from that doctor. I still don't know about her.

Now Maddie has gone off alone into a dark part of I think a neighbours house for some reason and there are banging noises. And it's just a captured soldier. Not as interesting as I was hoping. Not sure how the Dad thinks that this guy is going to somehow get the wife and Nick back. Trade.... they are insane. The soldiers will slaughter them if this goes down. Terrible idea.

The Lieutenant is a douche. I understand his situation but he is a tool. I'm interested in how things go down with him. There has got to be something that happens there.

Ah, so he doesn't plan on making the trade. Torture for information was his goal.

Whoa. This guy is really on one. The lieutenant vs Travis has to go down at some point. Now, I think Travis needs this push but I guess he's not ready. He'll do battle with the Lieutenant in a future episode for sure.

Interesting incident again with the doctor. I'm actually kind of hoping to see more involving the army fighting the zombies. So far we have only seen the aftermath. This should be interesting. Oh, we're only going to hear the radio chatter.

Chris and Alicia getting a little bit more personal. That might be an interesting twist.

And there is Nick getting help from the random black guy we don't know. I think his name is Victor. Still, we know nothing about him except that he makes deals.

Sounds like the Lieutenant is dead and the army that is posted around the fence is about to fall.

Also, Ofelia just found out. That can't go well.

Chris and Alicia are going smashy smashy in the "rich" house. To what end I'm not sure but it doesn't make a whole lot of sense. Just right for a couple of teenagers I guess

Travis just found out what's been going on. Cobalt.... saw that coming. The military runs and they bomb the city. Whoa.... the next morning.

So Victor is buying Nick. Trying to force him to be loyal. Not a bad strategy I guess.

The army guys are pulling out now.

Griselda is likely going to die I think. No point in having another 1 footed character in the show. There she goes. Sucks but missing a foot would make surviving almost impossible. Whoa - so the doctor knows that people turn when they die. And now Liza is taking responsibility for preventing that. I like Liza. She's tough.

Another whoa moment.... those doors are being attacked. I'm not sure where he is exactly - but the fact that the walkders are basically "at the door" means things are about to get crazy next episode.

I didn't really like much of episode .5 because some parts of episode 4 wasn't explained like the signaling for help and such. I really wanted to know what was going to happen at that part. Maybe we will get to find out sooner than later. The torcher was a bit too much for me as I felt sorry for the guy. But that was the only way to gain info on what they needed to know. Yeah of course I felt sorry for Daniels wife. And when he finds out, boy will he and his daughter not be happy with that. The episode is getting somewhere a bit, but the only thing that I didn't like is how some parts in the episode was a little unnecessary for me. But, that sports arena though really scary. I guess we will have to see the next episode to find out.

Ugh... I knew the unnecessary family drama was going to interfere with this series being good.

That dad, thinking that torture and ransoming the soldier back was going to work? That was dumb. Then, the soldier gave up all the information, and the dad was still like, "What evs, gonna do it anyway." I actually turned it off... I really wanted to get into this series, but the dysfunctional family drama is painful to watch. Honestly, I don't care about that, but it seems to be in every scene in the show. I want zombies, not scripted reality t.v. with zombies.

Probably going to stop watching... Unless some time soon all hell breaks loose, and it really becomes about zombies. And really, do they have women writers, because even from The Walking Dead (first couple of seasons... Lori and Andrea), they seem to thrive on making really unrealistic, and stupid women characters.

Like the mom, "Here, son. I'm going to grab some drugs, so you can take them to get off drugs." He went through all that withdrawal, and when the worst of it was over, he was going to only get better from there, she gives him more drugs... Seriously? Don't slowly wean him off of drugs.

I just hate the family drama... SO much...

Eniitan : the signaling was to show you that there were people that were still alive that were being killed to stop the spread of the infection. It showed that things weren't as under control as they claimed it was.

And I agree that the torture was a bit overboard. It didn't make a whole lot of sense to me either. Not sure what the end goal of kidnapping a soldier was going to be but it wasn't any good.

The end was great though. I loved the doors being rocked against as the walkers tried to get out. I still call them walkers

F. Starr : while I agree that the overdoing of the family drama can get old it is more realistic than it being more like your average zombie film that doesn't have any real characters in it. The people in this show are flawed and make mistakes and have problems that realistically affect how they act and react to the things going on around them.

I agree about the stupid female character thing too. There are some bad decisions going on a lot of the time and they make no sense. Lori flipping the car was comical when it happened.

Anyway, I think the scene at the end with all the walkers pushing on those doors is where all hell will break loose. I'd give it one more chance. If you don't like the next episode then by all means stop watching but I think the next episode will be more about zombies and survival than just family drama stuff.

Were you not paying attention to the drug thing? He wasn't off drugs. He was stealing morphine from the neighbour so he could get high. It seemed like he was getting better but he wasn't. He's a full fledged addict and was lying to his mom about how he was doing.

Fear the Walking Dead Ep. 6

I like the shot of the city completely dark. That looked awesome. With the bits of fire here and there. Stark contrast to what the city normally looks like. Then the shot of the arena doors being pushed on was awesome too.

So they are packing up and leaving which makes sense from last episode. Not sure if the guard is going to end up coming with them long term or not. He and Ofelia seem to have a thing going so that might make sense.

So they have to get out before the bomb goes off and get to Nick and Liza as well. Also, I fully expect the arena to become an issue.

So the hospital is emptying out and they are picking who to save and who not to save. That would be rough.

And off they go to save their family members. I'm loving the shot of the family having dinner. That would be so tough to drive by and do nothing about. Where did the military guy go?

Whoa! Here we go! Finally a mob of zombies! That would be the arena I'm guessing. This is a massive swarm! So awesome! That would definitely cause a distraction enough to help get people out. Alicia and Chris are being left together again. I kind of hope something comes of that.

Still want to know who the black guy is. What did he do before this? What are his plans? Lights are out. That's not good.

No one is getting out of there alive now.... at least not without fighting their way out. That compound won't last long with that many zombies. There goes the chopper. The doctor is going to kill everyone I'm guessing and then leave herself. Liza has her chance to get away though. I wonder if getting a chance to leave will end up with her getting lost or killed or if she'll have an easier time finding someone.

The black guy and Nick are getting out all by themselves..... that's rough.

I just stopped typing for that whole scene with Alicia and Chris. That was kind of intense. I think they just lost 1 vehicle unless Alicia was lying about the keys.

Loving the fighting at the fence. That is pretty much how it would end up being. Whoa.... helicopter suicide! And there goes more of the fence. That whole are is screwed now! That is a ton of zombies!

Nick and the black dude just found a zombie. What is he doing? Oh, gloating. That's nice

At least some of them have a heart. That'll probably get them killed at some point but it's nice to see.

Chris and black dude are stuck. Liza just showed up to the same area. Black dude is wasting his bullets. Liza has the key card! That was awesome! Now nearly everyone is back together. Just need to get down to the parking garage to collect Chris and Alicia and then GET OUT OF THERE! (this episode has been crazy intense ) Zombies in the kitchen! Ofelia was badass! They are all being pushed to their limits.

Black dude is "Strand". Probably a last name. Also, they just found about that the mom/wife is dead. Tough to find that out in the midst of everything else going on.

Now everything is quiet! I hate the quiet. Oh, the doctor is probably still around. They'll probably bring her along too. And she is an optimist! She'll likely go with them but seriously get moving! Uh oh.... self-inflicted?

Oh, now it's day time. They must have been in there for a lot longer than it seemed Yup, that is a mound of burnt bodies. That shouldn't be all the shocking. That would be a lot of bodies though.

Whoa.... the soldier guy is back (Andy apparently). He has a gun. What?!? He shot Ofelia? What is this guy thinking? And Travis is going maniac on that guy! Wow! The kids are shocked. Glad to see Travis has a dark side to him. He's gonna need it. Also, looks like the Doctor is gone.

I both love and hate these kinds of scenes. They are so peaceful yet you know that in a moment everything can shift to being a nightmare. Oh, Ofelia only got shot in the arm. That's not so bad. And wow, this guy's place is kind of awesome. Yet another stark contrast to what just happened this episode. I just realized that there is another 15 minutes to go or so and the episode isn't over. It feels like the episode should be ending. I can't tell if Nick is sober now or not. I think he is. Also looks like Ofelia will be fine.

Okay, so they can't stay where they are. Not a surprise really. I'm glad they don't because it would seem too easy. Also, where did Liza and Maddie go? And what are they looking at? Oh, a yacht! That is smart.

Oh crap! Liza is infected. And now Maddie has to kill her. This is rough. And I think Travis was following them and he's going to see. Yup, there he is. I can't even imagine how hard this would actually be. I just hope it happens before anyone else sees it. Hard not to hear that. That was a rough ending....

So, who is even left that we know?
Maddie (the blonde mom), Travis, Chris (Travis' son), Alicia (Maddie's daughter), Nick (Maddie's son), Ofelia, Daniel Salazar (Ofelia's Dad), and Strand. Tobias (the high school kid) and the doctor might both be alive still but I'm not expecting they are. Sounds like only 7 of them are around still. That doesn't seem like very many.

I was a bit disappointed at how short the season was, especially once you look at how many episodes are going to be in season 2, but the way it ended was pretty cool.

I have been recently reading a ton of articles on what many people predict what's going to happen in season 2 and some of them are really interesting, especially what some people are saying could happen out at sea. If something like that does happen, it could put an exciting spin on the show in a way and I can't wait for the next season to start.

I did end up watching the season finale, just because I saw everything else... And... Still ugh.

The only character I actually like is Travis, the step-dad. But I have a problem with him in that last episode. Alright, he frees the soldier, because torture is bad, and he knows that Daniel Salazar is going to kill him when they get there, so he lets them go. That's fine, that's the moral thing to do. However, he totally cool with the plan to release the zombies on the military base? Here's why I thought that plan was stupid...

The military was going to leave in the morning already, and leave everyone else behind, they knew that. Then they could have just walked in there and grabbed their family in the morning. Also, the plan was to put themselves and their families into 1000% more danger, by having over 2,000 zombies to deal with also? I honestly wanted that soldier to shoot Daniel in the head before he walked away.

And I really hope Madison gets killed off. Seriously... She told Nick she found that pill on the counter, and that he should take it, to help kick the habit. He refuses, and she, at multiple times, is still trying SO hard for him to take it... Then, later on, she beats him for still taking drugs... So... Basically... She's forcing him to take drugs, then beats him for taking the neighbors drugs. He's addicted, so don't give him any drugs, his body isn't going to slowly want to stop drugs. It's going to keep remembering how good drugs feel. So, I don't think slowly weaning is effective in this case.

I do, however, like what Kim Dickens (Madison Clark) said in the Talking Dead, where she said that Madison is good at making the tough decisions quickly, she just makes the stupid ones.

geeogree:  Oh, and also I did miss that episode about Nick stealing the neighbor's morphine (I watched it when they were showing all the episodes). However, that was after he was experiencing those withdrawal symptoms, and after the worst of it was over. So, at that point, whether Madison did or didn't give him more drugs, he was going to steal those drugs anyway.

That being said... I'm most likely going to watch Season 2, because zombies on a boat seems pretty d**m terrifying, in addition to other survivors also being on boats. I honestly believe the series can only get better from here.

F. Starr : fair enough. I didn't think the finale was great either. I liked it but there were definite ways to improve it.

For the sake of arguing....

We don't know that the military would just leave those people in the facility they were in alive. We had already seen them kill other perfectly healthy people in other places so it's possible they would have done it again. Still, that could have been a bit more obvious since bringing in a bunch of zombies to attack the base wasn't exactly a foolproof plan or anything.

Let me explain the drugs thing again....

Nick was already in withdrawal when Madison brought him those pills. Once he got on to those pills he started to stabilize. However, at some point in trying to wean him off of what he was taking he got access to the morphine which made him not need the pills anymore. Madison probably understood drug addiction well enough to know that Nick wouldn't have gotten better that quickly. So while his symptoms were gone they weren't gone because he had gotten better but because he was using again. Madison wasn't trying to force Nick to keep using to keep him addicted but she was trying to wean him off properly. Going cold turkey like he appeared to be doing is extremely risky for addicts. One trigger can push them back into full fledged using again.

Still, I'm going to watch Season 2 as well. No reason not to. I think it will only improve as the series progresses just like Walking Dead did. There were plenty of characters in the first 2 or 3 seasons that had to be there because lots of people were still alive that were slowly killed off as we started to hate them more and more. This show can do the same
