What does the name Isaac mean to you?

What does the story mean to you.

Totts :    The name Isaac means "laughter".  Now they could've given him the name because of various reasons.  Maybe Abraham, because he was already quite old (99) was laughing for joy at God's promise made to him that now finally came to fulfillment.  Maybe it was because Sarah laughed at Abraham (and God) out of disbelief / distrust or it might personify the joy and laughter that would be expressed by others at his birth.  So there's a number of events agreeing with his name.

Now what does it mean to me?  Obedience, trust and God's faithfulness.  Obedience and trust, because from scripture he (Isaac) did not even question his father Abraham when he laid him down to be "sacrificed".  God's faithfulness - God made a promise to Abraham that He would make him a father of many nations.  If Abraham was allowed to kill his only son Isaac on the altar, then that would be it.  No more generations to follow and God would be a liar, but we all know that is not how the story goes.  God kept His promise and stopped Abraham in time.  So when I see the name Isaac, that's what it reminds me about.

Isaac is a biblical name.  That is about all it means to me as I don't know anybody named Isaac.  Otherwise it could take on a more personal meaning.  I like the post above mine btw.
