I got the Royals in 7 games in this thing. I know the Mets have great pitching and Daniel Murphy has just been on an absolute tear lately, and that might make it even closer than I think even though I said 7 games.

In the words of Terrell Owens, "get your popcorn ready" because I think we're all in for a very special and competitive World Series this year. I see every game going down to the wire, and I'll be surprised if anyone gets blown out here.

I'm not really that bought in to this years world series.. I mean I'm glad that it's 2 teams that are never in the WS, but I'm just not that excited by baseball overall.

I did watch the Mets beat up the Cubs in the NLCS though and from what I can tell, they have some great pitching. If the weather is cool for most of the series, they should have the advantage. Pitching didn't seem to be as good for the Royals overall. So I would think the Mets will probably win the series just based on my small sample size.

I don't get why the tickets for most of the games are so expensive over here. If you are a Mets fan and want to go to the World series, you're in no luck. First off, the team doesn't start selling to the public right away. In order to get seats, you need to be season ticket holders. After that, they have a lottery where less than .0001% of people who enter get ACCESS to buy tickets for face value. After all that, the day of the game, the team decides to sell left over tickets that weren't claimed by celebrities to the public for face value, so you need to be really lucky. In fact, you won't even know what face value is until the day of the game when they put them up. Then you have the resellers! The cheapest seat is more than $600, and most of those are probably the season ticket holders who bought a few extra tickets for like $50 each.

That $600 is for 3rd level seats, and some of those even go up to $800.

Now lets take a look at the Kansas City tickets, those start at about $300 and you can get some very good field level seats behind the dugout for the same $600 with home plate seats starting at the same price as Mets good 3rd level seats, and get this!!! The face value for the Kansas City tickets is like twice as much as the Mets tickets face value, people just go crazy with how much they want to charge.

I could not stand to watch the bottom of the 12th inning because the Royals came so close to winning the game. They had the bases loaded and every pitch from Colon was a nightmare to the point where he was just a few pitches away from walking in the winning run but he managed to get the fly out to head into the 13th.

I'm boycotting the World Series. Couldn't care any less about it. I don't even hate the teams.

Like, if it were the Cardinals, I'd watch to root against them, because f*** them. If it was the Cubs or Pirates, or Dodgers, I'd have watched because I like those teams.

But I honestly couldn't give two f***s about the Mets, or any of the AL teams other than the Astros this playoff period.

Meh, good thing NBA season is here.

I'm rooting for the Mets. The Mets have good pitching but so do the Royals. I think both teams are evenly matched and I think this WS will go to at least 6 or 7 games. I'm hoping though the Mets rebound from last night and win this thing

tornadocam : The entire game lat night was intense. The broadcast issues, the pitching, the baserunning, everything added so much drama, on top of it being the world series.

Welp, the Mets are all but dead by now, but most people I know are saying they will have a comeback since the next 3 days are at home against some of their lower end pitching. However, I don’t see that happening because they would need to go 4-0 or 4-1 which I don’t see happening unless there’s some sort of a miracle. It’s a bit sad because this is the best shot they have at winning it all in many years and I think they might make it to the playoffs without a doubt again, but the winning the first few rounds again is a bit unpredictable.

It would be very heart breaking to see them lose after seeing them do all this after all the bad stuff that has happened to them in the past, but just winning the pennant is good enough after all that’s gone on over the last few years.

Hopefully the Mets keep both Cespedes and Murphy because the team needs both of them to succeed next year. It would also be really cool to keep Colon on the team as a reliever which would be amazing. I don’t care too much for the other new guys like Clippard and Johnson, but keeping them would help the team and maybe they can keep Young Jr on the team as well.

Also, without a doubt, Murphy has now became the greatest 2nd baseman in the team’s history. About 3 years ago I was looking at his stats and seeing he was like #1 or 2 and I knew that one day he would be the best if he stayed on the team and over the next 3 full seasons, he became that. Even without his postseason success, he is chanagable as the #1 because about 80% of all his stats are #1 or #2 for second basemen in the team’s history, like Doubles, Home Runs, hits, runs, RBI’s, AVG, OPS, and his postseason stuff only cemented his place.

zanderlex :

I wouldn't call them dead. I still think the Royals win in six, but it's not nearly as hopeless as it would appear to a Mets fan. Objectively speaking, the Royals are the more balanced team, and have a good blend of rotational help, bullpen strength, and offensive force. The Mets, while having good pieces in all those and having the better rotation, are just not as good a team on the whole.

In the playoffs, it's crapshoot. I'm a huge Sox fan, but 2013 was a prime example of what I'm saying. The Red Sox were a good team, but I do not believe they were the very best team in the league. And yet they more or less steamrolled the playoffs. The worse team can win, and even dominate in the playoffs.

If it was just "who is better" then we'd be watching Royals/Cardinals and barfing our guts out.

And I'd agree, I think this is the best chance the Mets will have for a while. They should really be able to capitalize on the Royals not knowing Syndergaard, deGrom, and Harvey as well as other teams do. I don't think any of those three will struggle, but this was the perfect season for that trifecta to win, I believe.

As for your offseason... I would be trying to avoid Murphy at all costs. I get what you are saying and his postseason has been phenominal, but he's a career 2 WAR player (on average-ish) about to be paid like he's a 5 WAR player. 5/75 has been tossed out and that's ludicrous. You can get an equal talent player for almost half of that.

You guys should however do whatever it takes to keep Cespedes. He's a great talent, and he's really taken to the Mets.

You should also keep Clippard, but beyond that, you should let all your current FA go, and focus on big moves in the offseason.

It's probably not in the Mets budget, but with their run, and their offense being what it is, maybe it can be justified... the Mets should get Chris Davis at any means neccesarry and sell way high on Lucas Duda. He had a great season, one that I doubt we'll see from him again. I don't know who could use him (I don't want him on the Sox, despite our need at first), but I do think you should be selling high on him yesterday.

Hoo boy did my lack of watching much baseball this year really show when I made my WS prediction. Honestly I had just saw highlights of the Royals having a hard time keeping leads in the lower rounds in the playoffs and giving up tons of runs and figured that would carry over to the WS game, it didn't.

Same as watching the Mets steamroll the Cubs in the NLCS, I figured they would take some of that momentum into the WS....they didn't.

In the end the Royals scored more runs when down and more runs in the clutch than ANYONE ELSE. Their pitching performed well at times too. Especially the back of their bullpen. Give the Royals credit for avenging their loss last year and winning this. Their fans deserve it. The Royals have been a joke for 30 years since their last WS title (for the most part) So it's good for that fanbase.

As far as Murphy goes. How rough is it to look like one of the best players EVER in the postseason one round and breaking records, then to do basically nothing positive in the WS? Does that tarnish what he did earlier in the playoffs? I think it does.

That was a sad series to watch, but only what? No more than 5 of their players have even been in the playoffs before so loss of stamina combined with the extended break took its toll on them. The Royals made it last year so they were ready to go back again and had the long October experience.

The question for the Mets now is what they will do now because they still have many questions, they probably won't res sign Cespedes and Murphy is a mystery and they need to get more reliveres, but will they be able to do anything to make them better?

If they managed to keep the team the way it is now and then get WHeeler back half way through next season, they could be unstoppable.
