Over the years, there have been 19 starters (including pikachu) Some have been great while others.. not so much. I have a question for all of you which starter is your least favorite and why? My least favorite is turtwig because It's fully evolved form Torterra has one of the worst type combinations out there grass/ground. Also it's super slow and it has poor special attack. Normally the best grass type pokemon have high special attack. I also hate Chesnaught for the same reasons but at least it has a unique move known as spiky shield.

Aww man... Chikorita. Definitely Chikorita. I usually don't choose grass type Pokémon because it's known they are usually the weakest. When I bought Pokémon SoulSilver, I decided to go with Chikorita because I remembered the Chikorita in the anime, and it was the best looking Pokémon to me. I usually go with fire type for obvious (awesome) reasons, but I didn't like how Cyndaquil looked. Chikorita was terrible in every gym except maybe 3. That's about 5 gyms that I struggled through. I kept on going through the game at the slowest pace I'll ever go through a Pokémon game. It took me at least 10 tries just to beat the Pokémon league in the Johto region . When I won it was because the other person's Pokémon did something stupid, so it was a luck-based win.

I struggled through the Kanto region too, probably with the same difficulty as in the Johto. Eventually, I got to the Elite Four and I was determined to win. I tried so hard (and got so far!), but in the end (it doesn't even matter) it went exactly the same way it went in the Johto region. It took me forever. Once I finally won, I wanted to go beat Red, probably the last thing I'd ever do in that game. Well, after finally figuring out my way through the cave that led to Red, I found out that choosing Chikorita was the worst decision ever. It took me at least 30 tries to finally... (wait for it)... give up! I ended up giving up on beating Red with my level 82 Meganium. My Meganium was weak and was terrible against so many Pokémon.

To this day, my Pokémon SoulSilver has sat in my desk, never to be beaten ever. I might eventually try again, but for now, screw Chikorita.

gamerforlifeforever2 : Definitely Pikachu, I mean Paycashu . He's the most overrated starter, and most overrated Pokemon ever. I mean, in Pokemon Yellow, you can't even evolve Pikachu, kinda sucks :/. Against Brock, choosing Pikachu is... probably the worst choice. Why? Because Brock has two Rock AND Ground type Pokemon, and electric moves won't effect ground. Pikachu is only helpful on Gym 2, because it uses Water Pokemon, and electric moves is the best choice against water. As for the other gyms, it might take tries to beat them (Especially on Gym 8).

Obviously, Pikachu has the least potential for being a good Pokémon on a team, but he's at least got a point in Pokémon Yellow. So, I'll say that my least favorite is Chikorita. A pure grass Pokémon just has too many weaknesses for my liking, and I just don't find him to be all that useful. Especially when in that same generation, you can get some pretty beastly Pokémon for generation 2 in Typhlosion and Feraligatr.

Chikorita for sure pure grass just isnt good at all anymore. Just very lackluster compared to the other grass starters. Its a good team supporter but nothing more then that and other pokemon can do that role way better then it can.

I would probably have to say that Chikorita or Turtwig are one of the worst starters. When Chikorita evolves into Meganium, its stats are pretty average with decent defenses...overall though, it is just slow and weak being just a pure grass type...and to be honest, I think its design is kind of lame compared to feraligatr and typhlosion which both look amazing. On the other hand, Torterra is a ground, grass type, but the major turn off for me is that it is super slow with a base speed of 56, probably one of the worst speed stats for a starter pokemon if I'm not mistaken. Along with that, it is 4x weak to ice, so an ice beam will most likely finish it off with it's meh special defense. Both Meganium and Torterra have good potential as pokemon, but there are just more negatives than positives to me.

I also got to go with Chikorita as well, I think it is one of the most weakest Starter Pokemon, it being a Gen II Pokemon, my favorite is always Cyndaqial and I only pick this pokemon really. But after hearing on why Chikorita is the lest favorite started, that's mostly why, but it's evolves of Bayleef and Meganium are pretty nice Pokemons though.

I would say snivy, I started a game with this one and played it for a really long tome before I realized that it was way too weak for me to use.

So much hate for chikorita makes me sad. That my favorite grass pokemon. Now on to the subject I say the worst starter or all is Pikachu. I dislike the little mouse he is just to weak to use in my opinion since he can't evolve in yellow.

I'd love to say Torchic here because I hate Blazekin, but there's one starter I like less is Mudkip.
I just find the little ugly thing annoying because of that "so I herd u
leik mudkipz" meme. It's stupid and annoying. I also think it has the
worst design of all starters and the ugliest evolutions. I didn't like
seeing Brock, one of my favorite characters, with one, but I
dealt with it.

I will admit, I'm a bad starter. But at least if you get me as a starter, I could probably learn more moves other than electric moves for you. Um, moving on.
Chikorita and Turtwig, and possibly Torchic. Each time I try to use Torchic in the game she seems too weak for me to use. I can't find myself using her.
Chikorita is really a bad pure grass type, pure grass is just... Eh. It's weak. At least, it evolves into something nice, so it isn't that bad to have.
Turtwig is another pure grass type. It's got bad stats but, like Chikorita and Torchic, it evolves into something good, at least. So none of these are completely bad, but they're my least favorite.

Hmm... it's sort of tough but...
I think it's probably Chimchar for me. I was never really into fire starters in the first place, but Chimchar doesn't stick out at all. Doesn't help that I don't particularly like any Sinnoh starters either. It's probably not horrible, but it's my least favourite so far.

MCJungleKitty : Chikorita happens to be my favorite xD! It is weak against Falkner and Bugsy, the first two Gym Leaders, but it can prove useful in other battles, of course, and I picked it when I was ten since it was cute, so... xD.

Anyway, my least favorite is Pikachu. I don't dislike it for being overrated, but I wish they had chosen a different mascot for the series . They didn't have to choose a big, tough one, but I wish they could have chosen something in between and equally as memorable. Bayleef, perhaps?

Also, Pikachu can't do too well against Brock, the first Gym Leader :L... Plus, you can't evolve it in Pokemon Yellow! What?!

I see most people are saying Chikorita in this thread, and I'm no different. It has to be my least favorite as well, hands down. Whenever I'm playing a new Pokemon game, I like to have a good start. That way, I can easily build momentum getting past the first couple gyms, adding more Pokemon to my party as I'm going. But Chikorita...first of all it knows Tackle, which doesn't even hit all the time. Second of all, the first grass-type move it learns is Razor Leaf, which has a high critical hit ratio yes, but it doesn't have an accuracy of 100%, when Totodile and Cyndaquil's first element moves do.

If you're really good and want to give yourself a challenge, use Chikorita first because I have trouble tapping into its full potential. Maybe you'll have better luck than I do.

I didn't really take a fond liking to Chikorita. I always found it the weakest of all of the starters, an It's just not the starter for me. However, I do occasionally use for challenges in the games, but other than that, I rarely use it.

It seems a lot of you hate chikorita. That pokemon happens to be my 3rd least favorite starter of all time. I don't dislike it quite as much as turtwig and chespin.

Hmm... definitely the newer generations like Chimchar. I don't know why but they never really had the same appeal as the first, second or third generations. To put it bluntly, they don't look cool.

My least favorite starter, to be honest, is Charmander. There comes a point when the blind love for something entirely due to childhood lust for powerful things becomes too much to bear. Charmander, while it may look cool, pales in comparison to what the other two starters, Bulbasaur and Blastoise, have the potential to do, and its final evolution, everybody's favorite Charizard, has a crippling weakness to rock, and a Flying type that doesn't seem to go to use much. I've used one, sure, but I both can't bring myself to like it due to its stupidly widespread popularity, as well as a few things which hinder its full potential.

And, I do not understand the hate on Chikorita. The concept of a "weak" Pokemon compared to a "strong" Pokemon is only in the eyes of the beholder, as Meganium has the same stat total as Feraligatr, as well as being four points under Typhlosions (due to its strange stat spread.) The idea of not liking a Pokemon due to it being "weak" is absurd. Like Karen of the Indigo League Elite Four once said:

"Strong Pokémon. Weak Pokémon. That is only the selfish perception of people. Truly skilled Trainers should try to win with the Pokémon they love best."
