In my personal opinion, it would have to be Squall Leonhart (Final Fantasy VIII).
I know that some people dislike Squall, but I think that Squall is a really cool character. Just gettin' this out of the way first; this post is completely opinion based and I do not expect people to share my views. Some of you will likely see this to the opposite of how I see it.
I see a lot of myself in Squall. That is the root of my love for the character. Squall is introverted, anti-social, courageous, a leader and a loner. Just like me. Whenever I read Squall's dialogue on the screen, I say it to myself in quiet whispers because I feel such a connection with him. Every word he says just makes so much sense to me (albeit that isn't necessarily a good thing). Squall and I even like to dress the same (mainly leather with some fur also) and we have similar mannerisms like tending to stay in a corner at a social occasion or sitting alone in the back of a room away from other people. We both keep opinions to ourselves and most of the time when we talk, it's to ourselves.
Moving on from the similarities, I like Squall's attitude. Albeit, he's kind of a jerk I like that in him (yeah...I guess I'm weird like that. I guess the jerk part just reminds me of myself again). I have an unpopular opinion here; I love his gunblade. I think the gunblade is cooler than the Buster Sword. Much cooler. Man oh man, somewhere there's a guy who's losing his mind right now. I love Squall's bravery and "take-charge" kind of attitude. Whenever there's a task that no one else can do, Squall is the one to get his hands dirty for the sake of the team. When everyone needed a leader, everyone wanted Squall to lead them and even though he didn't want to do it, he was an amazing leader, failing no mission presented to him, never leaving a man behind, and reducing casualties to a minimum (in fact, we don't even see any fatalities in the game). Squall has the heart of a lion and I think that this is a really cool trait. His bravery is enviable.

So yeah, my favourite character is Squall. I think he is the greatest there is. Some will disagree. Some will hate, but this is my point of view on the topic.
