I dont think so. I judge it by gameplay.

I wouldn't say that graphics make the game, but they're pretty important. I mean what would it be like if the SSBB graphics were pixelated, it would SUCK. Still playable, but terrible. Most of the time we take graphics for granted, but it really is a bigger deal than people sometimes think.

I also believe that graphics are important, but that they do not make a game...because you can have very bad graphics, like the early marios, but still have a game...

No, graphics definitely DON'T make the game. While they are a nice touch if they are good, they're nowhere near a defining reason for getting a game (in my opinion, and the opinion of several others according to the poll haha)

What matters is essentially everything but the graphics: mainly the gameplay, how compelling the story is, and how diverse the game could be (i.e. huge amount of cars to drive, huge amount of fighters to choose between, etc.)

i'd have to say the most important factor is weither or not the game is really playable. I don't care if it looks more realistic than real life if the controls suck, you can't find out where you are going because you dont have a map, or they are expecting us to take a pathetic excuse for a story seriously (if it wasn't meant to be taken seriously in the first place, it's ok). Graphics are a bonus.

I don't believe graphics make a game the game play is what matters the most! For perfect instances, look at all the people on this site right now. Instead of playing Playstation 3, The Wii or the XBOX 360 we are all talking and playing 16-bit and lower video games.

graphics do make a game in HELL!!!!! Game play counts much more than graphics with no gameplay it would be a video or a picture

no way graphics are just one of many many things... gameplay and storyline are my most important things

Graphics can help or hinder the game slightly, but they almost never dictate whether or not the game is good. The only instance in which I think the graphics are totally instrumental in making the game good is a game like Myst, where the graphics really suck you into the story. But they're only that important there because it's pretty much solely a visual exploration game. If the graphics weren't as great as they are you would basically have something like a non-educational Where in the World is Carmen San Diego game.

When i play wii i never dont really notice the graphics as long as while i am playing i am having fun. So if ur having fun who cares what they look like but that is just me

No. If they did, Super Mario Bros wouldn't be a good game. Same with Zelda: OoT.

yeah graphics don't make a game but i know if I got a game that was just out and the graphics where rubbish i would not enjoy the game as much

To a point graphics are important. Enhanced game graphics show how much time a developer has taken to make the game look good. However the core element is fun. If the game is fun, it wont matter what other factors are wrong. Even if you cant read the game, if you figure it out and Still have fun, then go for it^^.

but that doesn't mean you can just ignore game graphics.. Some times a games graphics can be so well done, that they might over shadow the fact the game REALLY just sucks.. Few games are able to make you stare at the screen thinking. "thats pretty" over "this is fun". For me personally, A great example was the game MYST. I couldn't solve any of the puzzles really, but the world, dam that was an amazing looking area at the time.

Very rarely, do you get those games where AMAZING graphics and Wonderful playability Mesh perfectly.

I cant happen to think of many examples of that really right now.. teh closest in my head now is Smash brothers Brawl.. But Im not sure how many people pause and take a long look at the back ground... some of those areas are just amazing.. plus the game itself is fun.

Graphics aren't everything, as they are a part of a game .The reason we have better graphics now is because the companies want the people to be IN the game. Graphics are good, it's better than staring at a screen filled with random squares put together to make a game.

Now look at all the classics that are still being played today such as Tetris, Mario, etc. The nintendo wii is another good example seeing as it is prolly the highest selling system on the market(not sure). Some people might say yeah it does but statistically it doesn't. The other side of this story is more opinionated from what I would believe. The overall enjoyment and quality of the game is more likely to make a game before graphics in my eyes.

Exactly! Tetris sometimes has the worst of graphics.... but it is still a game... isn't it?

Graphic definately do not make the game. I am in agreeance with basically everyone else posting on this topic.

I remember on of the NBA games came out for XBOX 360 and the big advertisement was that you could see the sweat coming off of the players... I just remember thinking to myself why that would matter.

Some of the best games I have played sportswise were previous years.
NCAA 97 gamebreaker was an alltime favorite in game play.

No, I do not think the graphics make a good video game. I mean, don't get me wrong, I think graphics help, but I think Mainly game play and the story are what makes a good game.

I agree with pretty much everyone else. I think it's the story that makes the game. I mean, look at FF7 (here I go again on the FF tangent) FF7 has not the best graphics, but most people that I talk to say it's the best because of the story...which I really like the story to that one, and that's pretty much what got me through the game.
