Everybody walks differently. That's something I noticed. Some move their feet slowly, some make a real stride of it.

What about you?

I normally walk pretty quickly, with a moderate distance in between steps, with minimal arm movement.

I walk quickly, but I have long legs so I have a long stride. Pretty big distance between steps.

I walk with large strides, very quickly. I'm faster than everyone I know, but that's an advantage, since I can get to my destination VERY quickly.

I walk pretty slow. I'm not sure about how wide my steps are, but I am certain that I take time going to place. I'm never in a rush to go to where I need to be. If I am, then I'll walk a bit quicker, but I'll never really walk fast.

Hm, then again, I do have the tendency to trip whenever I really try to walk fast. I guess that could be a reason why I walk slow. You would think that means I'd take sidewalks or smooth pathways whenever possible. But the truth is that I love walking on grass.

I actually like this thread. It's something not many of us think about... yet we can recognize most people from a distance by the way they walk (I mean, if we know the person well).

I actually can't stand to walk slow. I walk very quickly, with a small distance between each step.  I also hardly move my arms. (At least, I think I do... but every time I try to pay attention to that, I get conscious about it and I don't know if I'm doing what I normally do.  lol)

The worst thing about the way I walke, however, is that I put more weight on the inside of met feet, than on the outside. I don't think it's noticeable if you watch me, but this does make two notable things happen:

1.  Any soles on my shoes quickly wear out on the inside, and over time, they are no longer flat, but instead display a tremendously uncomfortable angle. I posted a picture on vizzed once somewhere.  It was a wide heeled shoe and instead of the heel bottom looking like this:  |_|, it looked like this: .

2.  If I jog or climb stairs for too long, my inner lower leg muscles (gastrocnemius or soleus... not sure which ones) hurt really badly.

I am very tall, so naturally I have a long stride. When walking from place to place (e.g. walking from one side of my school to the other side), I will move my legs very quickly and of course have quite a bit of distance between steps. When I am just walking in my house or maybe strolling outside, I tend to walk slower and have shorter distance between steps.

Interesting thread idea, by the way. I like it.

Typically, I walk somewhat rapidly with arm movement with every step. I'm tall, but not very tall, so I walk with a moderate distance in between steps. If I'm in a hurry in school though, I walk so fast, I'm really close to running (because it ticks me off when I get yelled at for running).

Whenever I walk with a group I notice that I'm not the fastest nor slowest. I guess I just like to walk at my own moderate pace ( I don't like to be sped up or slowed down ).

I walk a fair speed, slightly above normal but not that "hurried business-man" speed. This is probably because of my marching band experience, but I've never really thought about it. I usually have my thumbs tucked/hooked away inside my pant or jacket pockets with the rest just resting outside (or the other way around with my thumbs the only part of my hand out)

I notice people when they walk in halls. Larger, rounder people sway their arms to the sides to the front of their junk when they walk, skinny people just bend their elbows mostly.

I'm tall, skinny and have very minor scoliosis. Naturally, I would hunch over a little so my head appears to peer out more than my body. I walk with my head up, shoulders back, bend my elbows, and I instinctively walk heel-toe. My heel goes down first, and the rest of my foot rolls down to make contact. I can walk rather quickly compared to other people, and often trip over the ground, but I don't fall over

I'm 6'1" and 180lbs
I walk with long strides, and sway my arms quite a bit
The arm swaying might be chalked up to the fact that I'm a very...animated person in general.
I tend to sway my hips as I walk to
It's completely natural and unintentional
I've been told I walk like a model on the runway
which considering I'm a guy is kinda weird :/

I walk fast when I'm alone and slower when I talk with someone. And I put my arms at my sides so I don't swing them.

Depends on the day I'm having.
Weather.
Etc. Etc. Etc.

If it rains or I have allot on my mind I tend to keep my eyes on the ground where my feet are treading to maintain the direction and balance.

When it is a clear day or I have nothing to ponder, I have my head held high and my feet go wherever I want them to go.

If there is a crowd I tend to have my head forward and my eyes on the prize or destination.
The feet keep a modest distance from interrupting others.

Stairs are a joy. No handrail needed and I travel I as quickly as I can up or down.

Odd question.

Why ask?

Good Luck To All.
Peace.

This is a question that I was once asked, or rather, a variation of it. Not many people take the time to realize the mechanics of how to take a step, and as a consequence, my answer was 'one foot in front of the other'. But it's interesting to watch yourself and see that all steps are led with the knee, and it is natural instinct to place the heel of the foot down before the ball.
But spending all that time did make me realize the answer to the actual question stated; I walk at a fast pace, with average strides, although, I spend more time with my weight over my left side, and so left steps are higher impact and slightly faster.

I tend to walk at a quick pace like what some people say to me. Whenever I walk with people in general, they tell me to walk slower. I think that I walk at a decent pace with my hands in my pockets if I am wearing a hoodie or a jacket.

I walk on the average side, yet people say I'm kind of slow. It's probably my height, since I'm the 3rd shortest in my classes. Plus, I enjoy the landscape around me, and it would be a waste of a walk if I didn't admire it! So, I guess I do walk slow.

I'm pretty tall, so it should be noted, that of course, I step a bit further than most people.

I'm definitely a slow walker (in high school, I was the opposite, but now I like to take things slow), often times taking forever to traverse even short distances. Being the long strider I am though, I find I get to where I'm going about as fast as short people walking quicker.

I also have pretty much zero movement in my arms when I walk, putting them in either my pants or hoodie pocket. What movement there is in my arms, is usually stretching, or scratching/rubbing the back of my head.

alexanyways : I really don't think it has to do anything with how tall you are or you're leg size i'm saying this because lot's of people are taller than I am but I walk like way faster than they can it's just my normal speed and I still get yelled at to stop running even though I'm walking.
