Mine would have to be generation 5 because in my opinion it had the best story and music. I would love to know what your favorite is.
Also mods if there is something like this already then go ahead and take it down.

To me my favourite one is the 4th generation.Even though it wasn't the generation of my first Pokémon game,it had my favourite starter (Chimchar,Monferno,Infernape).I also liked it's graphics which were a little improved,it has some of my favourite Pokémon,it had the attack/special attack split (which I didn't really care for because Pokémon Diamond was the first game a used strategy to play),the legendaries were with a good background, the distortion world and the introduction of Wi-Fi for battling and training.

My Favorite Pokémon generations was I II and III. But Generation III in my opinion had the best music and good storyline.

I am going to also go with generation 5, I also liked the music and the story. I really liked the story behind Team Plasma for both the original and the sequel and I liked the region itself.

I like the first generation the best overall, probably. Not too much is going on, and it makes sense.

But, I still like a few Pokemon for each of the other generations.

I love the first gen a lot ad I always will, and to be honest I like all the gens because there are a lot of good pokemon either design wise or competitive/battle wise that I like. I would have to say that I like 3rd gen the most because I like all of the starters, but I also like 6th gen as well surprisingly enough. I thought that 6 gen was going to be a disappointment and that all the pokemon would be unoriginal (which a lot of them are) but I really like greninja, chesnaught and delphox a lot. The only gen I was never really crazy about was 4th gen for some reason. Even still though, there are plenty of pokemon from each gen that are amazing in design and stats.

Without really taking story line too seriously, I'd say Gens 1, 2, and 6 are my favorites. I believe I've played at least one in each gen (except 5, and only played the remake of gold for gen 4) technically speaking, and I'd say gens 1 and 2 have the best introduced Pokemon. Of course, it's probably just because that's what I grew up with. But in my opinion, the abundance of different Pokemon is absurd, I'd say just keep making it better and do a new map and story line, but why keep adding new Pokemon by the hundreds?

That's why I now have to add gen 6 to my favorites. It's incredibly well done, and instead of adding too many Pokemon it uses Mega Evolution. I thought it'd be dumb, but it's just so well implemented. Some of the new Pokemon are just great. Aegislash is pretty epic. Other gens add terribly ugly Pokemon, i think. Gen 6 also has a partial focus on the original 150 by including your choice of a Gen 1 starter and letting you capture Mewtwo after beating the League.

For story line, my favorite would have to be Gen 2. I like how you can explore more than one region, get 16 badges, and it's designed to specifically take place 3 years after Red's story in Gen 1. Just very cool and fun in so many ways. I always wished they just continued in such a manner, but I can obviously see why they chose to branch off to seclusive regions. Can you imagine travelling throughout 6 different regions to collect 48 badges and somehow try to put that into one story? I think in a way it'd be pretty epic, but there's minimal chance they could pull it off. Not to mention it'd just be way too long and tedious of a game for its target audience.

To be honest, I only played generation 1, 2, part of 3 and 6, but I ended up skipping most of 3, 4, & 5 because of personal reasons. If I have to pick what generation that I like best, I have to go with Generation 6.

The reason why I personally think that is the best generation because of all the Pokemon I missed out on for the past 10 years or the past 3 generations, plus also, Generation 6 did introduce the two best Pokemon out there, both Goomy and Noivern. so that's why I got to go with Gen 6.

This is tough for me but I think it's III. Emerald is a solid entry, and I grew up with Gen III spinoffs like Pokemon XD. Not only that, but I could fill up a box full of all the Pokemon I like from that Generation.
After that is V. Some people hate on the Pokémon but I myself enjoyed the selection, and I enjoyed Pokemon Conquest a lot.
After that it goes II (Some decent Pokemon)
then IV(Mostly because of Explorers of Sky and a couple Pokemon I was okay with.
then VI (Not a lot of memorable pokemon and the one spinoff I played was meh)
then I (Yuck... outdated. Only pokemon from there I still like is Venasaur and maybe Alakazam.)

I would have to say Generation III is my favorite. Why ?

This particular Gen is the one I played for over 320 + hours and that was a lot of time to spend on a game back in the day, especially if you were a kid. After a while I felt like I wasted my life playing Pokémon Sapphire and just stopped playing it all together. I had some very good times with the game.
Spoiler:
I remember trying to hatch my eggs that had pokerus on it. I didn't know how to hatch it and thought that leaving the game on over night would help and it never did.

I also tried to " catch 'em all " but failed. I caught everyone besides Dexoys and Jirachi. I had no idea on how to get them. I traded with my friends to get the rest and they even had no clue on how to get those two. I will never forget that Sapphire is this first game I encountered my very first shiny Pokémon. It was a Poochyena I was very shocked to find it in a different color. I didn't know shinnies existed at the time. I also ran into a shiny Rosalia but killed it by accident as I was training my Flygon for the Pokémon League. I stopped playing the game for days after I did that haha

Not only did I have memorable moments with the game I believe that Gen III had some of the best Pokémon Designs in it. Not one of them seemed wonky or really weird. If one of them did look weird, it looked weird in a good way. There were also Pokémon Contests and a ton of options for you to choose from, post game. Like a certain Pokémon Gen I know ..

* cough* VI * cough *

Even though it doesn't have much for you to do post game, it's still a good gen nerveless. So yeah, Generation III is my favorite with Generation VI following right behind it.

* Since I played Sapphire so much I believe I am going to get Omega Ruby when it releases in November.

I would say generation 2 or 5. Generation 2 because of nostalgic reasons and the fact that it added a lot and I'd consider heartgold and soulsilver still be the 2nd best Pokemon games in the series. And generation 5 for the same reason you said. It had the best music and story and I also think it had the most interesting locations as well.

Soulsilver and White 2 also happens to be the games I've spent the most time playing (around 700 hours and 400 hours respectively).

blahblahblah213 : I'd say soulsilver and heartgold is slightly ahead you know due to having the whole of kanto unless you count that as part of the main story.

After that would probably be White 2 and Black 2. This is one of the reasons I was disappointed in Pokemon X and Y. The game had okay but disappointing music, a meh story and barely had anything to do after beating the elite four. But at the very least it did make a bunch of nice little tweaks to the battle system and it looks really nice.

Hoenn for sure, it was my second Pokémon game after Pokémon coliseum. I'm playing it currently and I just love the music, its just so nostalgic.

blahblahblah213 : I agree about the battle maison being a step down but I don't think it neccesairly has to be easier since you can turn off the exp share, do nuzlockes or use the exp share but rotate between more then 6 pokemon. The one thing that I didn't like was that the gym leaders or trainers in general seem a bit easier due to using less pokemon which were also weaker in terms of stats and movesets making battles (gym leaders and the elite four in particular) a lot easier.

Anyways for the risk of this becoming completely off topic I'll just link anyone who is interested in my opinion to my review of Pokemon Y:

Vizzed has 3 TB worth of games and 1 TB worth of music.  This site is free to use but the ads barely pay for the monthly server fees.  If too many more people use ad block, the site cannot survive.

We prioritize the community over the site profits.  This is why we avoid using annoying (but high paying) ads like most other sites which include popups, obnoxious sounds and animations, malware, and other forms of intrusiveness.  We'll do our part to never resort to these types of ads, please do your part by helping support this site by adding Vizzed.com to your ad blocking whitelist.
