Hi guys.

I just wanted to know what the rules are in regards to advertising specific threads.  For instance, I have 4 threads that I would like to heavily promote to try and get people to visit.  I would hope that they would become popular enough to be stickied.

But, first things first, what's the rule in regards to advertising your own threads?

The first thing to know is to not make threads that are designed to advertise other threads. Those are spammy.

What I see people do about making their threads popular is the word of mouth method. On Vizzed, that would basically be posting the link to your thread in chat, on user's profiles, or through PM.

Its not really got any set method.
As stated, you cant make threads directing people to them.
PM's, profile comments, chat room links, no rules against any of them.
You could even put the links in your layout

thenumberone :   I was going to get Tornado Mudkip to do that when she made the layout, but she suggested it would not be a good idea to have the signature line too cluttered.  Perhaps if there was a way to hyperlink the url to text in the signature line, perhaps that would make it neater.  For example, is it possible to have the text "Thread advertising" in the sig line, but when you click on it, it directs you to https://www.vizzed.com/boards/thread.php?id=76773  ?

Mistress :   thank you for your input also

That's definitely possible. It can be done through basic HTML coding. Just ask her to add that to your signature if you want the link to be advertised like that.

As stated you can post a link in a shortened form.
E.G:

Meatsim009's Profile

or:

your profile will open in a new tab if you click this

I made an image to show it clearly:
where red is always needed, yellow is the address you want (such as your thread url), purple what the link will appear as in text, and pink an additional for making it open in a new tab (so users don't have to leave the current page)

#a href="https://www.vizzed.com/boards/profile.php?id=464735">Meatsim009's Profile

or:

#a href="https://www.vizzed.com/boards/profile.php?id=464735" target="_blank">your profile will open in a new tab if you click this

Image upload: 550x96 totaling 23 KB's.

thenumberone : hmmmm, I'm stuck now. The layout creator won't do it, which is fine. I may have to stick to the earlier suggestions.

All right, I'll go ahead and close this then.

Feel free to PM me if you want this reopen to gain more insight, or go ahead and make a new thread about it if you're encountering other problems. Which ever is more convenient for you.
