I generally don't name my Pokemon. I feel like I would forget who was who. I'm thinking maybe I'll start a game and name every Pokemon, just to see what happens.

Thebiguglyalien : See, I tried that once, it wasn't anywhere as much fun. Just name your starter is my advice.

I don't usually change the name of my Pokémon. I find it easier to keep their original names as there is far to many of them.

Yes I do. I unfortunately can't show all their names but my favorite one was from Pokémon's Black named Firestorm. It is the best name I could think of at the time so I now call most other fire types that with Pokémon's Y I named my fire Pokémon (don't know the name) Firestorm 2.0. I may continue using that name as I quite like it. I keep names on a sheet of paper so I don't name two pokemon the same name but I like the name firestorm it is a bit weird.

No I don't nickname/name any of the Pokemon I catch. The reason why I don't nickname the Pokemon I catch is because I trade Pokemon over Nintendo wi-fi sometimes and I realize that nicknames aren't always wanted or really good nicknames 99.9% of the time and if you nickname a Pokemon and trade it you can't even rename the traded Pokemon.

I used to never nickname my Pokémon, but now I do it all the time, like in my Pokémon Fire Red Let's Play, I nicknamed my Pidgeot, naming it FlappyBird, Venusaur is Ovaltine, Arcanine is FireWall, Vaporeon is Hydrocity, Primeape is PorkyPig, and Raichu is Voltage, so I was really happy with the names, so now I always nickname my Pokémon.

It really depends on the Pokémon and if I can think of a good name for that particular Pokémon.  So I have to get the right Pokémon and be in the right state of mind.  It depends if I'm feeling creative, too.

Only if I come up with a really good nickname on the spot (Obamasnow). Otherwise, I don't bother.

As a follow up to my earlier post, I have started a game in Pokémon Emerald where I'm naming every Pokémon I have. I started with a Mudkip and named it Havoc. My other main Pokémon are a Lombre named George and a Makuhita named Elmo. I've found it doesn't really change the game all that much, but it is amusing when I give my Pokémon really random names.

I usually don't because if I nickname a pokemon I want to come up with the perfect nickname and that leads to me taking like an hour before I finally decide XD

So I try to avoid it usually to save time.

I always name my pokemon with a naming theme like food, Harry Potter... for a while I named pokemon exclusively Warrior Cats names.... haha I'm weird. Usually I just rename Legendary pokemon with their name, just not all caps because that annoys me in the older games.

I tend to.

The way I do it can range from plain regular names that seem to fit, pun names, descriptive names, or play on words...

Some examples I've done over the years:

Adam for Treeko

Tesla, Ohm, Spark, or Bina for Pichu

Fuego for the first female fire type I get. It's Spanish for "Fire", and sounds neat as a female name.

Kingsford, Fahrenheit, Loki, Kole, or Bernie for a Charmander

Luke for a Pidgey. Um... because... Skywalker..? I dunno, it makes sense to me.

Martha or Thomas for a Zubat (Props if you get the reference connection. I won't say it here.)

Brisby for Ratatta. You remember that book/movie, right?

Cody, Kyle, Jake, Nick, or Mark are my pool of names for male Eevees, as I like to give them all short 4 letter names. The females are a bit more random...

Milo and Olim are for my Clefables and Gengars, but the female variations are Mello and Ollem. It's a personal reference to a set of character I have that one is the shadow of the other.

Every pair of Nidorans I get in a game have matching name puns or references to couples like: John and Yoko (take a wild guess), Bill and Laura (Battlestar Galactica), Tony and Maria (double reference if you recall an old Pokémon episode), Greg and Lisa (reference to House), Gil and Sara (I like CSI), or something like Mojo and Jojo.

Natasha was my first legit Shiny, and was a Psyduck. Billie was my second legit shiny, a Spinda. And my third legit shiny, Tiana, was a Poliwag.

Balboa and Shy are my cats' names (well, we call one "Bo", and his full name includes Rocky Balboa) and I tend to reserve them for Meowths.

Scoobert for a male Poochyena, and River for a female.

I tend to avoid renaming the Legendaries, but I may break the idea if it suits me. Chip, Nip and Zip are usually the theme I have for Zapdos, Articuno and Moltres, as the joke is a Chip can be something electric, Nip is what cold does to you, and Zip is derived from a "Zippo" which is a lighter. It's also a set of Beanie Babies I have. XD

I have tons. I rarely let them go without naming them.

No I don't.?The name sounds fine the way they do. ?Those Pokemon names is what gives people a Pokemon feel.

I used to name a few of them like Lulu or Billy back than lol When you listen to their Pokemon you can relate with their element type.
