Homosexuality is prevalent in society and culture with tv shows, movies, sports, and so. I'm curious on how people react to the gay community. God may or may not have said homosexuality is terrible but the Bible talks a lot of being accepting of others and not turning your back on your fellow man. I'm not religious but I read into Christianity as saying, "Accept and be nice to everyone." I like the quote from Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy that describes Jesus as a guy who walked around and told people how wonderful it would be if everyone were nice to each other. How do you feel about it? Which direction do you lean to? I'm curious to see some insight from the religious folks and how they feel about the gay community. Hello, I am a Christian. I do not agree with gay marriage. However, I do not shun them at all because that would be Non Christian of me to do. I even have friends that are gay. Like Jesus did with the sinners of his day he was nice to them and had compassion on them. He did not tolerate their sin, he showed them that he was the way. Not to mention I was once a sinner myself before I got saved. We are to be nice to them and be their friend. Another thing is Jesus said love though Neighbor as it is the second greatest commandment. The first is to love Christ with all our heart. Our Neighbor is not people who live around us but people in society. So many times I have seen others claim to be Christian and do horrible things to GLBT people. I am not like that, I try to be nice to them and I try my hardest to be their friend. I want to be a Christian example to them |

I second tornadocam in that a true Christian disagrees with homosexuality without shunning or even looking down on homosexuals. We are no better than anyone else, and if we feel that we are, or we treat others poorly because of what they do, we aren't really Christians, since Christ would not do that, and "Christian" implies that we're like Him.
I see people hide their maliciousness toward others behind a claim of standing for Christianity. That's worse than being the person that they're condemning for disobeying the Bible. I would also like to point out that if a homosexual is malicious toward Christians, that's just as wrong. Basically, mankind as a whole needs to stop being so dumb, and realize that we can disagree without hating and trashing each other. That's just ignorant and belies our stupidity. Christians can (and true Christians do) love and respect the ones they feel are sinners, and the "sinners" should be respectful of the Christians. So each side thinks the other is wrong. Big deal. Grow up and get along. That's just my two cents, but I think we've proven that hatred of those that are different than us is dumb and closed-minded in the worst way. Respect one another, whether you agree or not. It's pretty simple really. I see people hide their maliciousness toward others behind a claim of standing for Christianity. I used to have a real problem with this subject. I literally spent hours each and every day bashing the gays. Maybe 2 years ago or so I realized how un-christian (if that is a word but you know what I mean) of me this behavior was and have since changed my ways. Now I look at my old self and just shake my head in wonder at how much of a bigot I was. Something that really sticks with me are preachings about hating the sin and not the sinner. I've gotten to know some really wonderful people I never would have even given a chance back then and am grateful that I am no longer filled with such hate. |

Another gay-topic... How many of these are there.... Well personally, as a Christian, I have no problem with the gay folk and yes, bible says what it says on the subject in many books in many passages but I belive that these days homesexuality gets pinpointed too much when there are also lots of of other vices, sins and whatnot condemmend just the same way that we all seem to ignore these days both by myself and more conservative Christians. What ever there is I will never want to condemn love. No matter what -sexuality you want to put behind it. May god himself strike me down but I will never condemn love where ever there is Love! And how prevalent it actually is. Considering that homesexuals have and always will be a minority, the fact that they are no longer ignored, bullied or persecuted as much as they were and they no longer have to hide what they are, I think it is progress. And atleast there is some discussion on the subject. Atleast there might be even some understanding. There might be some love, respect and solidarity which I personally found was one of the finer aspects of Christianity. We are all sinners in one way or another. Nobody should be turned away or shunned. I'm not all that religious myself but I do have a couple friends that go to church every Sunday and so on and they have no problem with it. They say that they are still a creation of god and that they should be proud. They say that they wouldn't be who they are if god didn't want them to be. Makes sense to me. |

I'll put it as simply as possible. I put up with other people's problems whatever they may be as long as I have the patience, but if a gay guy tries to hit on me, I might not want to see them for a while! Besides, if you never talk to them, you'll never change them, never save them irregardless of their issues. We either viciously attack the branch and treat gay people as if they have an incurable, highly contagious disease. We say: "God hates gay people and you're going to hell!" On the other hand, you get Christians that is too sensitive about the issue and they rather not bring up the subject at all to avoid conflict. If you know the way to forgiveness and everlasting life wouldn't you want to share that? If not, then that would be very selfish no? Really homosexuality is just another form of sexual sin. I mean a guy having relations with a woman he isn't married to is also considered a sin and look at all of the people having relations with many people at the same time. I know a guy who got his girlfriend pregnant then dumped her and started dating another girl right after. I think that's pretty sinful in my opinion. I will say I don't really agree with gay marriage since marriage is actually a biblical term and the Bible says you cant marry someone of the same sex. Oh and as for the actual thread, I don't shun people who are gay. There are some people I do shun and those are liars, because I cant trust them at all. play4fun : True. I thought it would speak for itself. But ofcource, it never will. I think I have spoken here before how people like to take the place of God when it comes in judging others. This is my sin too, ofcource. When we judge others for their sins we easily forget our own and believe the sins of others are worse than the ones we carry ourselves. When I see this vanity in other Christians, yes, it makes me angry and thus I wanted to post the passage. And for my anger, I shall also be judged one day. But I also wanted to remind everybody else that nobody is some holy righteous warrior for God. Everybody is a sinner and as such, we shall all be judged. Did I make myself clear or do you think I misquoted the passage? I am feeling sort of unsure if my English is any good when it comes to discussing theology. True. I thought it would speak for itself.
