There are quite a few ways to get married WITHOUT being 'under God.' Like civil union. Just keep in mind that not everything on this world is 'under God.'

edit: heh.. I contradicted myself. My God's the sun. XD 'under your God.'*

Acctually you condridict yourself on 'my god' too... since he is above us

I dont like this whole gay marriage thing. Because pretty soon they will get minority satus and want more and more. Aside from the whole moral stuff.

They'll want as many rights as any other person. It's not like they're that different.. and everyone who doesn't have majority rights has minority rights.. so.. I don't understand what you're saying?

what you guys don't seem to grasp.... is that this is just as much of a moral issue as a rights issue...

and what none of you have proven, is that everyone has the right to marriage....

prove that.... and maybe gays will have the right to be married....

And what exactly is there to prove, other than everyone deserves the chance to get married, despite who they're marrying?

the fact that everyone actually does deserve it....

you can't just say something without proof.... and expect people to believe or agree with it

maybe I think that everyone should only have 2 kids, and so everyone that has more than 2 has to give theirs up to other people that don't have 2....

that's just an opinion... I have no good reason for that to actually be the case.... if I had some proof as to why that was a good reason, then I should present it.... but, I don't, so it is just my opinion, and has very little validity

Well that works both ways.

Why -don't- they deserve to get married?

Isnt it proven that gay men are more hornier than the average man? and gays usually tend to have have sex with several different partners, isnt that true aswell?
why do they have to get married that makes them committed to one person and they probly cannot do that anyway.

marriage should only be defined as man and woman, why should the world change just because the gays want to change it for how they want to live it?we do not revolve around gays

Can 2 guys really fall in love? no, it is not possible for many reasons, you can even ask a psychologist, you people who think otherwise got to stop reading your Yaoi s***.

I am going to have to agree with Geeogree, marriage is defined as the union of a man and a woman.

I really liked this, I ran across it on a blog I've found recently.... and it does help sum up some of the things I already don't like about the whole same-sex marriage thing

"Gay Marriage: A Zero-Sum Game
Affirmative rights are the snake oil that post-Charter Liberals in Canada have been promoting now for over two decades. Any problem in society can be traced back to a lack of rights. Furthermore, when the courts "finds" a new right or a new group that requires special protection, then this can be accomplished without any negative consequence whatsoever. But the problem with rights, contrary to what our Liberal snake-oil salesmen tell us, is that oftentimes they are a zero-sum game. Far from a panacea, assigning rights to one group oftentimes means confiscating rights from another.

And so it is with same-sex marriage. Liberals have gone to great lengths to demonstrate that this is not a zero-sum game, even where religion or conscience is involved. As such, we had the government promising vehemently, for example, that churches would not be required to perform same-sex marriages. The view that marriage rights can be extended without depriving others' rights has led to the instrumental argument that opponents of same sex marriage should put a sock in it since gay marriage does not affect them. Jim Elve takes this point.

But then reality rears its ugly head. Exhibit A: Two BC lesbians will be taking a church to court for not renting out its convention hall to perform the same-sex marriage. Exhibit B: A Baptist marriage commissioner in Saskatchewan has been forced to go to court to stop the government from forcing him to perform same-sex marriages. Other commissioners have lost their jobs. Exhibit C: Pierre Pettigrew telling the Catholic Church to butt out of "secular" debates on matters that in fact concern it deeply. Exhibit D: The ominous threats of revenue Canada to deprive churches of their charitable status if they dare to speak out on the issue of gay marriage. Exhibit E: Paul Martin's odious stated view that speaking to citizens on the level of religion, as the Conservatives have done with their advertisements targeting religious immigrant communities, constitutes "racial profiling." It goes on and on.

Despite the best assurances of the Liberals, we now know for certain that the gay marriage debate is a zero-sum game and that religion and conscience are on the losing end. Gay marriage cannot therefore be interpreted as anything other than an attack upon religious freedoms in Canada. Its time for people who think religious freedoms in Canada are valuable to start standing up for them, and standing up against gay marriage."

That didn't make much sense, after reading it twice. I could just be mostly brain dead.

I have an example. I want to get married to my girlfriend. We want to take that next big step, into a very serious and commited marriage. We will not be getting married in any church, considering my girlfriend and I aren't Christian, Catholic, etc. What is your reason for not letting me and my girlfriend wed? Why does it matter so much that in a dictionary and a Bible say it is the union of a man and woman? Why do I have to go by a dictionary's definition, or a Bible that neither me or my girlfriend believe in?

the point is.... that the pro-same-sex marriage people, and the government say that same-sex marriage won't affect the heterosexual couples....

but, that quote is showing how it has already been affecting heterosexuals, and I'm sure it will only increase once the legislation (at least in Canada) is passed

I'm not saying you have to get married in a church, or have religious support.... but what is being said is that the vast majority are giving stuff up so that a small minority can get married.... and we don't know where your rights end and ours begin

I very strongly believe that same-sex marriage should not be allowed. If it starts it'll take away the personal meaning marriage has to me and I probably won't see anything special in it anymore. I hate dictionaries, as you all should know, and I still say that marriage is defined by the unity between a man and a woman. It's not a dictionary definition, it's a defintion defined by history, tradition and moral value. To change what it means to a person would take the value out of it for many people and then marriage becomes meaningless. I don't have a problem with gay people and their relationship, but I don't want what they have to infringe on what I have. I'm sure they don't want me doing the same, and I'm not. I'm not trying to get gay relationships illegal, because I don't think that's fair...even if I don't believe in it.

"When push comes to shove, the "truth" of state-defined equality rights will always trump the "false" God-defined morality. The problem stems from something deeper than simple disbelief in God. Permitting freedom of religion to supercede equality rights is to acknowledge the possible existance of God - an authority higher than that of the state.
As far as the left is concerned, the notion that there exists an authority higher than the state is really not in their best interests."

this is from SmallDeadAnimals.... I thought it made a lot of sense as well....
