I'm Swedish and I never use Google translate for English class as I basically never have the need to. However when I have French class and need to translate a word or sentence I don't know or I'm not sure of I often use it.

supercool22 : Let me guess, you use it to look up swear words in other languages? If that is the case, then you aren't the only one, a lot of kids used to do it at my school and they would say it at each other stupidly.

I only resort to using it when I come across a word I don't understand and the Spanish dictionary doesn't have it. Never whole sentences though because it will leave some verbs incorrectly conjugated and it will also mess up the order of the sentence when in actuality it is different in Spanish.

Yes, I used to use Google Translate.a lot back when I took Spanish. I don't know why, Spanish is not the kind of language that agrees with me, after years of learning it, there are no more than a handful of words and phrases that i know without having to translate them. I never had to use a translated for French and Italian because they were so easy for me, but when it comes to Spanish, I had to use a translated about 4 to 6 different times a week, and I still have to because I am nowhere near fluent in that langauage, even after 5 years.

I used to google translate all of my French assignments and essays in high school. I had forgotten everything I'd learnt in middle school and it was embarrassing to admit that I had no idea what was going on during class. My teacher thought I was as diligent as ever and I don't even feel bad about cheating.

I usually don't use Google Translate for Spanish class, but the sentences I have don't come out right when I do use it. One time I put a sentence with a 75 in it, and Google translated it as 75o. I'm not going lie, I started laughing out loud when I saw it, but it's a little odd how wrong Google was.

For Spanish translations, you should use spanishdict.con

I don't use the translator for a class (obviously), but there are times when it's useful. I often role play on a site that I've been a member of for many years, and more than half of the players are Polish. I don't run across them often and in-game, you're not supposed to know a second language unless it's been taught to you by another character.  Sometimes curiosity gets the best of me though, and I run conversations through the translator just to see what everyone is talking about. haha!  Even if the translation isn't perfect, it's close enough to get a good idea of the discussions going on about me.

Back in my freshman year of high school when I used to take Spanish 1 I often used google translate to do 99.9% of the homework assignments. I used google translate because all the directions on the Spanish 1 homework assignments were in Spanish, not a lick of English to be found on the paper plus on top of that I had literally the worst Spanish teacher who (has recently) been fired due to the amount of students who failed Spanish 1 in the classes she taught.

Yea I used google translate a lot when I was learning French. I'm just not good at learning other languages. It's probably because learning them are all about memory and mine is pretty crappy. I would only use google translate for words though not sentences. My teacher would always tell us not to use google translate and if we did he toke of a % of marks (I forget how much)

Well, I always use it when there is a website in another language on the Internet that I do not understand. For example, I play a lot of Japanese games, and sometimes I want to see the Japanese websites just to gain information on the games prior to them being localized and released in the US. I end up using Google Translate for the page, just so that I can get a basic understanding of what is going on. Unfortunately, even Google is not great with translating languages. The text always ends up garbled, and sometimes even seems like it is written in an unknown language, despite being in English. I also had to use it sometimes when I was in Chinese. There were words that we didn't know and had to look them up through translate because we didn't have Chinese dictionaries.

I never use google to translate sentences but there are times when I see certain Japanese word all the time and I eventually get curious about it. There was this one time where I didn't know what " chibi " meant and I would see it all the time.

Of course. There's always those times late at night where you just can't get fathom what the reading passage is about, or you need help thinking of a particular word. Google Translate isn't perfect, but it can give you a quick and helpful start.

But never in class, since I can ask for help, and never directly translating for an answer. That's cheating.

Obviously what your classmates are doing is wrong when it comes to learning. They're not putting any effort in, and they'll get nothing out of it. Of course, they'll pay for that by failing the tests. (At least, I hope they do!?)

I started using Google Lang again recently because I am taking an online French class for the summer. I did take a year of French, but that was 5 years ago so my memory is a bit drunk.
