I'm just wondering because i feel like talking about music and sharing my musical expericiences and stuff.

That and the fact that i'm having some band struggles because we've gotten nothing done and it irritates me.

a conversation and some advice would be nice and greatly apriciated.

I'm not a musician but maybe I can help a bit. What kind of struggles are you talking about??? And what do you mean you got nothing done? No gigs or no music has been written? That's kind of the problem with bands a lot of the time, you have to rely on others to get stuff done but one member slacks off it can bring the whole band down

I'm a musician but more of a classical musician( the one that plays orchestral instruments), not a band's musician.

Juliet: cool! i like classical too. oh and i know what you mean. i went to a school for the arts for a while and i had a few friends who were orchestra majors. i really think that who ever can play a violin smoothly and with a passion for it is amazingly talented.

JigSaw:
Well here's what's up...

My friend and i decided to start a band back in october of last year. she already has like 23 songs already written from like two years ago (before we met) that sound really good. But things have changed... kinda for the worst (band wise). She got a job at mcdonald's, got a boyfriend and married him (and she's only 17), and on top of that she lives almost two hours from where i live. i really am happy for her but i was REEEEEEEALLY hoping that we were going to take advantage of this summer vacation and actually get things done. I mean we're not even technically a band, because it's just me (vocalist) and her (bassist). But now she's just spends time with her new husband (whose joining the coast guard btw) and i guess the band isn't a priority any more.

there' more to the story but i'll leave it at that for now. if there are things that you don't get just ask me and i'll explain.

Wow that is a pretty tough situation... Unfotunatly, this does happen a lot and I have seen it happen to many people. Some people decide to get married and start a family before they even plan anything out and in the long run usually it distracts them from their dreams career wise because of all the work it & time it involves in starting and raising a family, if that is what they are planning to do.

Now whatever you do don't let her stop you from pursuing your own dreams because anything is possible We all come to crossroads like this in life and what you have to realize is she decided to get married instead of get the band rolling then get married. Not that there is anything wrong with that it's just it limits the chances of success in my opinion.

It's always best to start off really strong, pursue your dreams, and get over the hill in the way then from there it is smooth sailing. This takes time though... which seems to be limited.

I suggest you talk it through with her, see what her thoughts are on the band. If she doesn't sound interested then go your own path. If she is interested, talk to her on the phone every now and then, have her record stuff on the net and send it to you, vise versa if possible. That is what is great about my job, I never see anyone I work with but can get stuff done a lot better that way, it's actually funny how that works out. So use the net to your advantage it will work miracles But yea if she isn't interested, sorry to say, might need to ditch her and just pursue your dream! Hope that helps some.

My 2 favorite songs are Minority and 21 Century Breakdown.
I got really lucky, and went to see them play in Nashville during their tour.

Hi! I did just read you, and well, I kinda know how you feel, in the matters that years ago it did "slightly" happen to me, me and a friend were trying to make our band "be", and i felt i was the only one trying hard to evolve it, while she got busy with her lovelife.
After that I quit.
Don't do that! That's a bad example, something you won't be proud of, believe me - and you will pass the rest of your life having these deepbreath~expressions of "oh.. what if I didn't quit of my dream..? Would I be X?? Would everything be Y? Would would would??"
Don't. Just work for it.
I agree with JigSaw, talk with your friend - and let her understand that her life got all new and exciting, and even if you are so happy for her, you STILL have your dreams, and you want to fight for them - non~obstant all the excitement your life brings and will bring to you! Ask her if she still has the same dream, the same will, the same passion on her vains; or is she going to quit on her dream and on you regarding it.
Why? Because your dreams keep burning, and you need to know where you stand!!
Remember thou, better than having a fight.. is having a nice calm discussion between two persons who share a good friendship!

Go for it, and goodluck!!

I am a musician (E flat alto saxophone and B flat tenor saxophone)Personally I think music adds something to everyones lives and playing an instrument adds another dimension to music. gam3rgirl I suggest that you just talk to her about it, she may understand better after that.

i never really knew that there were a lot of musicians here! that's so cool.

i haven't updated the story so here's what happened in the past 4 months:

believe it or not i've got so fed up about the drama that i actually forgot about it. but we are (somewhat) still a band... though, i don't think it's even legit anymore. It's more like a book sitting on the back shelf now... collecting dust until someone has time and patience to read it.

we had kind of a fall-out though, but it wasn't about the band. one day we were talking online and she was being two-faced with me while i was talking to her. we were im-ing each other about my problems (i needed to vent) and she was giving me advice and trying to make me feel better. then i went to my myspace and she posted a new blog that sounded like she was annoyed with me. I mean, the way she wrote it sounded exactly like a coded version of what i was telling her and why she was annoyed with it. (i can tell it was about me since i was the only person she talked to that day.) i was so upset that she didn't just come out and tell me that i said "if i bothered you so much, then i'll leave you alone." and so i did. three weeks went by and she finally talked to me. she didn't mention the comment i sent to her blog or apologize to me about it, but i just let the whole thing go. we're still friends now, but not as close and i don't trust her as much as i used to.

the only best friend i have is the one i have now. and he's the only person who doesn't talk about himself all the time and actually listens to me.

and i don't mean to sound shady, but i plan to start a mini side-project with him. he used to be in my band but we kinda gave him the boot so that he can progress with his other band. but unfortunately, his other band left him in the dark about a lot of things and he left on his own will. so now we are two bandless musicians but not for long i hope.

i really want to see if i can start this mini side-project with him and maybe it can get us somewhere. i was really inspired to do this because of a random jam session we had one day while he was at my place and we sounded amazing together... it's like you can feel the deep passion we have as musicians in our performance. And all we did was a cover for Linkin Park's "What I've Done". Plus it just felt amazing performing the song... a feeling i haven't felt in a long time.

sorry for the lengthy post, btw.

Wow, sounds like my band...

I play bass and guitar, and I can do vocals both clean vocals and growls.

I am in like three bands. One is an extreme powerviolence/thrashcore band called Dolfin Pizza. The other is a school band and I think I am playing in a melodic doom metal band. I play mostly metal but for bass I try and do other interesting stuff. I am not one of those bassists that just does the same stuff as the guitarist.

I thought Green Day wasn't punk rock but Alt. Rock??? I listen to hardcore punk and I hate Green Day. Punk is a really weird word if you say it a lot.

I used to sing a load of stuff from musicals like Les Mes and Hyde.

And sorry about your friend, I had something similar with an ex happen a few months back. Except we're still not talking.

I play flute, violin and piano... I'm not that good at playing violin, and just good enough at playing flute. My major is piano at the moment, but I do like to change my major to flute or violin, but flute has the greater chance.

( I know, my reply is too late )

Im a musician.
Been playing drums for 6 years, guitair for 1 and I can also play a bit of piano. I also write a bit of lyrics/poetry.

Ive had some stuggles in the past with bands, one thing I leanrned is that there will always be conflicts, its up to the members to figure out a way to work around them.
