Victorino hits a grand slam! Saltalamacchia tackles Fielder! Red Sox win the pennant! Uehara gets the ALCS MVP and almost barfs!

I can't help but wonder if the thing about Koji almost barfing is a translation error. In any case, the Red Sox and Cardinals will square off in the 109th Fall Classic, the fourth time these two teams have matched up for the World Series. I have to predict the Sox coming out on top. It's now or bust, Boston will not repeat this performance.

Chewedmint : I think they'll sign him anyway. As for Prince Fielder, I can't understand why the Tigers aren't using him as a DH. The only one of the five tools he has is power hitting. He can't run, his defense is meh, and he cannot run. Only reason he's at first is because he was in the National League, no DH there. Surely there are better first basemen out there.

Mr. Nerd : Fielder is at first because Martinez can no longer be a full time catcher. His knee injury prevents it. And his bat was a huge part of our lineup. And even if V-mart wasn't playing, Miggy would be at dh because of his injuries through the second half of the year. Fielder will be at first as long as Martinez is on the team.

I feel the Red Sox are going to win a hard 4 out of 7. As Mr. Nerd said, I as well think that Boston will not repeat their performance from this year to next year.

My money's on Boston.

I've got Boston in 5. Maybe 6.

The Red Sox are just so good right now that I honestly don't see the Cardinals being a bigger threat than the Tigers. The Tigers have a dominant rotation, but the offense won out. Good pitching supposedly beats good offense, but you need more than just good starters.

The only thing the Cards have on the Sox is that they have a better 4th man in the rotation. Boston has the best offense in baseball, one of the top three rotations, and one of the top 5 bull pens, including the best reliever in baseball in Koji Uehara.

I honestly think this could be a wicked short series. I hope it is too. Cardinals fans are unbearable.

That said, the Cards could win. They made it this far.

I just don't see it happening.

patar4097 : Well, he's locked up for a long time since Detroit shot first.

legacyme3 : Detroit's bullpen was lacking, and I think that if the Tigers were more ferocious out of the pen that Boston might have been defeated. I have to agree with you on the WS situation, if we can get past Detroit we can get past anything.

Something I noticed about the postseason starting rotations is that teams are only using 4 starters since there's an off day every so often, so the fifth is not needed, and can be used as a reserve if one is somehow injured. Or, in the case of Ryan Dempster, be used in the bullpen.

After 8 years, and a couple of playoff appearances, Jim Leyland is stepping down as the manager of the Tigers. I was not really a Tiger fan, but I respect what Leyland has done for the team.

zanderlex : Even though Leyland was a good manager, I think that Detroit needs someone new at the helm. He's done very well with the team in an AL Central with not much competition, but I think this follows a similar thought process as the firing of Terry Francona after the "fried chicken and beer" September. Sometimes, a team just needs a fresh face. I'm not sure who would fill his position, however. Bobby Valentine is a no, I forget where Ozzie Guillen is, or if he's even managing now, and I really don't know of any other managers out there not currently managing. I guess they could pull someone from the 1975 Indians, as that team had 6 future managers on it.

Mr. Nerd : I don't think Ozzie is anywhere, and if the Tigers took him, I would go insane. Although Valentine wouldn't be good either. I have no idea who would be able to replace him, because he was a great manager, and to be honest, I don't know anybody else. Hope we get somebody capable though.
I really thought Leyland was going to stay around for one more year. He said he made his decision early in September, but I thought he would want one more chance at a World Series championship with the Tigers. At least he'll still be around in our organization as a front office guy.

Dusty Baker is available, since the reds fired him.

Im certain that Baker and Leyland will be picked up instantly when the world series is over.

Im seriously hoping that the blue jays will sign one of them as head coach because Gibbons was a joke of a choice. I was very disappointed when Gibbons was chosen over Francona.

Chewedmint : Leyland is just retiring from managing. He is going to stay in the Tigers organization. He said that he wasn't retiring, just was no longer going to be in the dugout. He'll still be with the team, just with a different job.

So... Cardinals or Red Sox? Being a Yankees fan, I have to say Cardinals. They do have a good team, so it isn't all bias. What do you guys think?

This is it, I am currently at Fenway Park for game one. I am sitting all the way at the top, but I spent some time trying to get some autographs. Les go Cardinals.

zanderlex : You're on top of the Green Monster?

Whoever wins game 1 is probably going to win the World Series. 21 out of the last 25 teams to win game one went on to win the WS. I think the Cardinals will win tonight with Wainwright outduelling Lester.

Chewedmint : I was near there, they wouldn't let anybody down there without thousand dollar tickets. My seats are about a hundred feet above the ground.

So far, the Cardinals are doing terrible, it's not fair what happened to Beltran, he was one of my favorite players when he was on the Mets and he waited so long to make it to the World Series.

Wainwright seems to have calmed down now. The Cardinals seem to have forgotten how to hit, however.

Didn't get back home until 4 AM this morning and the Cardinals lost, but overall, it was a great game. It's probably the 2nd biggest sporting I have ever been to and I had fun.
