Here's your chance to learn how to hack Pokemon games for the Game Boy Advance (Fire Red, Leaf Green, Ruby, Sapphire, Emerald) and also earn real money in the process! On top of that cash rewards, you can earn tons of CP and Viz as well.

Here's how it works. You create a Rom hack of any of the GBA Pokemon games and when it's all finished, you send it to tRIUNE and he'll add it to the site so that others can play it. From that point, you can earn $200+. Read below for more details.


What is a Pokemon Rom Hack:
It's where you redesign the towns, change locations of Pokemon, change the Pokemon (including stats, name and looks), graphics, title screen, menus, items, music/sounds, write new scripts/dialog, create new events, etc. You can find a list of GBA Pokemon hacks on vizzed here:

Earnings:
Once the competition is over, whoever has the best rated game with at least 3 votes and at least 5,000 plays wins $200 (real money). 2nd place will win $50. If for some reason very few users enter and therefore no one reaches at least 5,000 plays, than only the 2nd place prize will be handed out.

You can also earn money even if you don't place. Between now and May 21st, for each 10,000 views your game gets, you'll earn $20 (a maximum of $100 per a game). To qualify for this, your game must have at least a rating of 7.0 or higher.

The money can be paid in multiple ways. I can send you the money via paypal, buy you an amazon gift card, buy and send you Microsoft Points, buy and send you Nintendo Points, buy you something online, etc. If you wanted to take Viz instead of the cash, than you could take 300,000 Viz instead of the $200, 75,000 Viz instead of the $50, and 30,000 Viz instead of the $20.


Additional Earnings:
You'll earn 1 Viz for each play your game gets and 0.1 CP for each 10 plays your game gets. So if your game gets 15,000 views (which is about the average amount of views hacked GBA Pokemon games have right now), you'd earn 15,000 Viz and 150 CP. On top of that, you'd earn tons of CP and Viz each time the game receives a good rating. All of these earnings are automated and will be in effect forever, even after this competition is over (if your game has more than 1 developer, earnings will be evenly split among all developers).


Submission Deadline:
February 21st, 2014.

Payout Date:
May 21st, 2014 is when we'll figure out who won and who deserves how much money.


Rules and Info:
-The game must be made for vizzed.com and must be made available only on vizzed
-Vizzed.com must be placed on the title screen somewhere (since vizzed will basically be the "publisher" of your game)
-The hack can be about anything, there aren't really any guidelines to follow
-You may work with a team but you'll than have to split the earnings
-Games must be finished to qualify
-Limit of 3 games per a user (that doesn't include games you work on with others)
-Limit of 5 developers per a game
-Only games created after 7/13/2013 count
-You can hack any of the Pokemon games for Game Boy Advance, which includes Pokemon Fire Red, Pokemon Leaf Green, Pokemon Ruby, Pokemon Sapphire and Pokemon Emerald
-You may submit your game as a demo/beta to the site to be tested but demos/betas will not qualify for the earnings and we'll only accept them if they're at least 25% complete
-Anyone caught cheating in any way will be disqualified and possibly even banned for life
-You'll be given admin powers for your game pages so that you can add, edit and remove content and graphics
-You may promote your own game by submitting screenshots to it, editing the game page, creating various threads for it (as long as they're not spam), recording videos for it & uploading them to the vizzed youtube account, creating a custom boxart graphic, responding to comments or threads regarding your game, telling your friends about it, advertising it on the internet, etc

Tips:
-The more time you put into your rom hack, the more likely it is to earn you money. If you put less than 50 hours into the hack, there's a good chance that you wont earn money from it but your still free to submit it and earn Viz & CP from it.
-Change as many things with your hack as you can. Changing the graphics, music, title screen and/or towns can definitely increase your chances
-Giving it a vizzed theme in some way could increase your chances of winning since the people playing and rating your game will be members of vizzed. Things such as giving users of the site cameos in the game, creating towns based on vizzed, etc.
-Play as many GBA Pokemon rom hacks as you can in the Retro Game Room to get ideas and inspiration for your hack.


This competition has the highest payout of any competition vizzed has ever had! I figured there are lots of users who have plenty of free time and would love to put that time to use by making hacks based on their favorite games and than to be able to share them with their friends and earn money in the process.

Davideo7 : looks like another solid opportunity for players to put their experience to good use. I wonder what the competition would be like for this though because a lot of people seem to butt heads when it comes to hacked roms.

earthwarrior : Correct, the point of this competition is to make a game for vizzed. Regarding the sharing Viz and CP per a play, that's something I'll have to think about.

Davideo7 : Even so, when it comes to ratings and views players will still clash with what each other thinks is good. Of course... I don't understand any player who has played the million same Pokemon games anyway. Yes the Pokemon are different but maybe that's exactly what these players like, who knows? I've never seen a ROM hacking competition here before! This is great! I would become a Super Mario 64 hacker but I can't get the tools and programs I need

Cool! I know what hack I have I am submitting...already made. There is a spoiler to the game though. 



I only edited maps of some cities with more grass, and maybe changed music. And, new wild pokemon are only found on route 1. They are a lot stronger, with higher levels and tough pokemon (such as Hitmontop)

Davideo7 : I've better get working on mine then. So how different from the normal games does it have to be? For instance, my Emerald hack will have little to no change in overworld appearance, besides one small thing. But because I can't get a script editor to work, I can't change anything like that either. Would it still be accepted?

patar4097 : It can be as different as you want it to be but if you want it to get a good rating and lots of views, than you'll want to make it as different as possible. It'd still be accepted if you didn't do any scripting.

Wow. $200 dollars? Really? Wow.. Just wow.. This is pretty amazing. I know how to make hacked and quality games, But sadly, I do not even have some time. $200 dollars on the line..
