To me, the best video game money would be the golden Mario coins with the yoshi face on them because they seem to look the most valuable and they are made out of gold. I also I think they are the best because it's easy to get large quantities of them.

Zelda rupees are my immediate favorite; the sound effect when collecting them is satisfying, and few game feelings quite compare to that of expanding your wallet!

But, stretching the 'currency' definition a bit to cover any repeating collectibles, then Fruits from Yoshi's Story (N64) are high on my list.
Yoshi's Story is the straight-up happiest game I've ever played.  For those who haven't played, your objective is to go through a storybook-style platformer and collect enough fruits to make the Yoshi's happy so they can save the Super Happy Tree.  If that sounds really trippy, that's because it is.  It is a wonderful game that I am lucky enough to own a physical copy of.
Snagging fruits out of the sky is fun in its own way, and the magical happiness that results from it is great.

I think that Rupees were the best currency because it was pretty original when the original The Legend of Zelda game came out. The only Zelda game that didn't have this was Zelda 2

I have to say rupees are the best! They are original unlike PokeDollars where they literally put Poke in front of Dollars. I like the fact that they are gems so they are not easy to rip like real life money (and monopoly money respectively), they seem pretty casual in a way, you can easily pick them up in the odd bush and not have to worry about battling a trainer or doing some stupid quest. Also the fact that you can get negative money, also known as rupoors, can really through the player (and the player will probably through their controller but that is probably for a different thread). I like my rupees and not even Ganondorf can stop me!

I would go with Rupees. They are shiny, pretty, and look like candy. And they have different types, and values. Unlike the Coins in Mario which are always the same no matter what. Rupees also make a cool "Cling" noise when you pick them up. Which is why I like them also.

I got to go with Coins in the Mario series because in most Mario games, 1 extra life costs 100 coins, but in some games, you can use coins for a lot of other things as well.
