Well family guy wins at everything. It is funny, it can have action and also has that feeling you get when you just want to watch more. Sometimes a lot more. If you want a proper action T.V series I would suggest The Walking Dead. It is pretty awesome (and so is the game).

I recommend "The Big Bang Theory". It is about 4 scientists. 3 of them are trying to find women for them and one of them is always very picky and doesn't care about getting a woman for him. It's a really funny show and there are a lot of episodes to watch. There are 6 seasons of it and I think the 7th season just started very recently.

I would suggest watching Gravity Falls which shows on Disney Channel. The show is completely EPIC and there are some episodes that will blow you away like you never knew. I watched all 20 episodes of the first season, and I loved it. You should really check it out.

Doctor Who is a sci-fi show by the BBC about an alien who travels through all of time and space in a blue box. Sometimes funny, sometimes tragic, always an adventure.
Sherlock is a modernization of the classic mysteries by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. It's only six episodes total, but it will both make your life and break your heart. Pure genius.
Merlin is a show based off of Arthurian legend in which Merlin and Arthur are about the same age, magic is illegal, and Merlin is Arthur's servant. Adorable show, with a very cute bromance between Merlin and Arthur. You will find yourself thirsting for the magic reveal and dreading the end of the series.
Supernatural is about "Saving people, hunting things, the family business!" It's basically about two brothers hunting ghosts and demons and stuff. Just plain awesomeness. Can be sad, exciting, scary... (I'm only on season 2 out of 8, but it's great.)
Psych is a hysterical crime show about a guy who pretends to be a psychic. Always good for a laugh, and the crimes are very unique and interesting. I love the friendship between Shawn and Gus, and Shawn's little romance with Juliet! Great quotes. (And there's going to be a musical. Just saying.)
All of these shows have really great plots, and adorable relationships between the characters. They get very complex, so I'm afraid that those summaries couldn't even possibly begin to describe the sheer awesomeness encompassed by these shows, but once you give them a chance, you'll see...

Well Big Bang Theory and Myth Busters are both great shows as been told.  I also suggest Modern Family which has something for everyone in your family.  My whole family from age 6 to 62 loves the show!  It comes on often on fox and USA so I bet you can catch it.
