It was hailed as the greatest video game of all time when it was released, and even after all these years it still has a pretty solid claim to that title. Super Mario World is without a shadow of a doubt my favorite Mario game and when the SNES was released I played very little else until I'd discovered the lion's share of 96 exits. It's pretty amazing to consider that this was the first game ever released for the SNES.
In terms of game play, Super Mario World doesn't actually deviate that greatly from the successful blueprint laid down by its predecessors. The ability to move around the massive map screen at will and revisit already conquered levels to find additional secrets is an upgraded feature from Mario 3, and this really adds to the replay value. Being able to save your progress helps as well - the game is so epic that it would be difficult to see everything it has to offer in one sitting.
The additional special abilities that Mario is granted add an extra layer of playability - although it's a shame that the costume power-ups from Mario 3 fail to appear. However, Yoshi's introduction is probably the most well remembered innovation. The green-skinned dinosaur radically altered the way the game was played and several secret exits were only accessible when Mario was riding Yoshi.
                                                                                                                              Conclusion
Nintendo fans often argue over which is the best game - this or Mario 3 - and it's likely that in 50 years time they'll still be debating the considerable merits of both games, but in my opinion SMW comes out on top; the sheer scale of the challenge coupled with some beautiful visuals and classic music help to make this one of the greatest video games ever created.

Agreed. This is probably the best of the two. Super Mario World was and still is an epic adventure. It takes something special to make most gamers put down the flashy new games for a 16 bit(?) game, but this game easily does just that.

Good work with explaining how the game flows and such. I enjoyed this read very much. Perhaps you should try adding a breakdown of each category at the end of what you have here? It isn't neccessary though. Either way, good stuff here.

Decent review, but you could have made it a bit longer. A suggestion would be to separate the review into sections, like having 1 section about the graphics, another about the gameplay. Nice job, anyhow. I definitely agree with you that Super Mario World is better than Super Mario Bros. 3. When I was a little kid, I would ALWAYS play Super Mario World on my Super Nintendo Entertainment System. It's just a really good game. It's long, it has many secrets, and it's the perfect difficulty. Playing Super Mario World never gets old for me.

EDIT: Oh my gosh, TheKingOfTown. Another plagiarized review from him. He's changed 1 or 2 words (such as changing videogame to video game), but it's still pretty much stolen.

Local Mods: Um, yeah, this thread should be deleted. http://www.meanmachinesmag.co.uk/review/279/super-mario-world.php

Wow you're right, this is plagiarized.

Trashing for plagiarism again.
