Planned crimes do not fall under the catagory of "Organized Crime" according to the dictionary.

It's a premeditated crime.

John you need to know your stuff organized crime is like the mafia and cartel. ok not no freakin taliban. Terrorism and organized crime are different terrorism tries to put fear into people organized crime does NOT try to put fear on people.

It just deserves to have it's own category, even if not from the dictionary. Terrorism is usually organized crime, but not always and it's usually of a much different degree. Terrorism is open, while most organized crime is hidden, or at least attempted to be.

I think people dont want terrorism to be classified as organized crime becuase then it would be all to simple to see it could happen everywhere.... not just over there. They also want to distance 'us' from 'them'

P.S. i used 'they' as a general term refering to the people who don't want terrorism classified as organized crime

It CAN happen anywhere. Oklahoma and Atlanta are proof of that.

But I don't classify it as 'organized crime' from a pure grammar stand point.

John, your post confused me, which is my fault I think. What do you mean by "just over there."? I know terrorism can happen everywhere but it's not always organized and like I said, it's open and often deadly. They care about their goal and not about how they do it. So basically, it's planned, but not organized.

Organized crime has a good definition. And terorism doesn't fall under it because there are terrorist attacks not brought upon by organizations and groups.

People dont like to associate organized crime with terrorism, because we all know of the natorious gangsters who did the whole bootlegging deal and stuff like that. They want to keep the terrorists seperate from us americans. They want to think of them as the Arabs. Those people over there. They would have to come to a great realization that it is the same thing. I dunno if that explains it very well But ya

I think the majority of the people in the united states WOULD group terrorism with 'organized crime' despite it being a wrong definition.

I think we all agree Timothy McVeigh and Eric Robert Rudolph are terrorists.

I would have to say Un-Organized crime because a whole bunch of wackos running around in circles are easy to deal with. What if the Vizzed board lived in the same town and we all decieded to rob a store at the same time. There wouldn't be a chance for the cops to catch us all. And does anyone remember when the mob tryed to take over Chicago? I think Organized crime gets away with it more often

You wanna know why they were not really terrorest?? because they did not want to make people afraid of them they just wanted to have power. Bootleging was not something the public was afraid of when the mafia was in america. in fact people are the reason why that was a buisness.
Now killing inocent people is causing the public to be afraid.

Oh and in those days they got away with it more because lack of technology not because they were good. now we can intercept phone calls and forensics.

The Red Mafia had ties with Stalin, they owned banks and were able to recieve weapons from the Russian Army...I wouldn't consider mobsters terrorists they have their similarities but the differences are much more distinct; as cheese said mobsters do not seek to make peope fear them, they want wealth and respect, mobsters might even own some of the minor businesses in your neighborhood. They don't kill people without a distinct reason.

Terrorists on the other hand like to kill out of hate mostly towards government and religion i,e; Al Quida. They hate Americans more than any other hatred fathomable, as soon as we pulled out of Afghanistan after helping them beat the Soviet Union without aiding them it began an immediate chain of events.

They were probably contemplating a terrorist attack on America for a decade. September 11th was not the first terrorist attack on the WTC they bombed one of the garages and bombed alot of U.S embassies.
