legacyme3 : I disagree I think Detriot will win at least 1 game to keep the series going. But like you implied but if the Giants win tonight, then most likely the Giants will win the World Series.

legacyme3 : I don't know if Sandoval can really claim THAT much... but then again, how much playoff history do the Giants really have? Sadly, we haven't been to the playoffs very much in my lifetime, so not a lot of players even had playoff histories.

Passing Bonds... well, that's gonna be hard since Bonds had some 'help' late in his career... but we'll just hafta see how things go.

I'm not too crazy about Sandoval's attitude... but he's been putting up some great numbers, so I'm glad about that at least.

Detroit will definitely get going later in this series and keep it interesting, I'm sure... but I really hope the Giants prevail. Winning tonight's game is going to really make things easy on them. They'll finally be playing ahead instead of having to come back from behind again. They've done so well with the backs against their walls, that I can only imagine how a series goes when they have an advantage.

I was a little worried Tigers were going to score earlier in the game, but the Giants managed to get out of the inning without any trouble after a throw out at the plate. Here's hoping their bats can pick up from game 1 and get to the Tigers pitching before it fully warms up.

What a game between the Giants and Tigers. Both teams really want the win as both know what it means if they lose. I should mention that I haven't watched the game as I'm too busy watching Buccs vs Vikings on NFL Network so I don't know the whole story for this game.

I somewhat disagree. The Tigers will now play 3 straight games at home. I think they will win 2 of 3 at home and then the series will be decided in San Francisco in game 6 or 7.

But I still don't think Detroit will come back, I just think it will go to a game 6 or 7 and either of those games are a tossup.

By the way, Giants won 2-0 today. Sandoval didn't do much tonight though, it was all pitching.

Crazy Li : You know, the Giants have hit much better away from AT&T this year. I wouldn't put it past them to win on the road (not saying they will though). I'm hoping for it to be decided by Game 6, Halloween. Perfect day to end it all.

Is that a pic of Buster Posey?

Ya Halloween would be the perfect time. Especially since the Giants are orange and black.

bobq : Why yes it is! I've had a Buster user image for over two years now. Long story short, I wanted to be as pure and righteous as I imagined Buster to be, so I made him my pic lol and yep, that's why I want it to end on Halloween.

I've got some gangster penguins here.

Just picture them as gangsters.

I wish the Reds were here.

I'm happy that the Giants beat the Cardinals though.

And I wish the Nationals were here, but we can't always get what we want... (wait till next year, when Strasburg is back!)

I think the Tigers win 1 game. 1.

Series decided in game 5, 6 if something unexpected happens.

Madison Bumgarner has had a tough post season, but was completely dominant. I don't think the Giants are just gonna stop now.

People in Detroit still think that the Tigers will win. I can't really agree with them, but I'm hoping. We have the team to do it, but we have to pick it up again. So far this series has looked just like the regular season for us. Not everything is working. I'm still surprised that we even got in to the postseason.

Detroit certainly has the power and the starting pitching to make a comeback in this series, but if they lose game 3 in Detroit it is pretty much over for them but of course weirder things have happen. So I wish good luck to both teams and their fans and hopefully fans behave themselves.

Detroit has rust they need to shake off and San Fran has all sorts of momentum behind them from coming back to win twice in a row now. They have a head full of steam against a Tigers team that has been sitting around waiting for the previous series to finish. If the Tigers have any hope to even force the series to 7 games, they need to get back into gear immediately. Two games is all you really get to warm up before you get run over.

I kind of feel bad for Tigers fans.

They won a tight series against the A's, and absolutely crushed the Yankees.

In fact, they crushed them so bad, they gave themselves too much time between series.

Playoff baseball man. It can really suck sometimes

legacyme3 : Yeah, that same thing happened to us when we got to the WS in '06. We swept the A's, actually, and had the same amount of rest as this time.  It does suck. You think the team that wins first would have the advantage, but really, in this case, that isn't the case. Not taking anything away from the Giants, because they have been playing terrific.

This might be a litte early to say, but could the Giants do to the Tigers what the Tigers did to the Yankees? If the Giants hold the lead and win Game 3, I might have to dust off my broom.

I'm a bit upset that the Yankees were swept by the Tigers. They just had a bad hitting postseason. I am enjoying the Gaints whopping the tigers in the World Series though.

I have to say, I did not expect the Giants to have this easy of a time in the World Series after struggle so much in the first two series... I thought for sure they were just scraping and crawling to stay in it and their luck would soon run out... but now it seems like they're playing perfectly fine like a team should in the playoffs.

I knew the Tigers would have cooled off during the wait... but they've done so more than I expected and you'd think that by game 3, their hitters would have been able to get back into a groove. If they really do get shut out in this game, I don't think they have any real hope. You can't take this long to figure out how to hit again.

Wow, the Tigers can't do anything today, or really the whole series. These double plays are not going to help at all. Even though Sanchez had a good outing, the offense can't help him out.

OK, this is laughably pathetic.

Crazy Li :

It helps that the Tigers beat an A's team, which by all rights probably should have won, and a Yankees team that ended up losing all momentum after their series with the Orioles. In reality, the Tigers were probably the weakest team in the AL race, and in all likelihood the playoffs.

But the way playoff baseball is set up, all you have to do is matchup against your current opponent well.

Every team that made the playoffs in the NL was a top level team, and as a result, there were no weak links.

Whereas there were only 4 teams in the AL really worthy of the playoff spot. The AL Central, by all rights, is the weakest division in baseball.

My theory is the Yankees stressed over not knowing which opponent they'd have to be ready for in the ALDS, due to the wildcard, and in turn, didn't prepare for the A's OR the Tigers enough. Whereas the A's and Tigers were each probably preparing for the Yankees, despite the ALDS currently being on between them. Once the ALCS happened, the Yankees were just unable to figure out a team that had them gameplanned in advance, and just swept through them.

Now that it's the World Series, a long break, as well as being gameplanned heavily by both the Cardinals and Giants prove crucial in their downfall.

Are the Giants showing their true colors?

No, rather, this is the Tigers showing just how weak of a playoff team they are.

I really hope the Giants sweep the Tigers. Just because it's silly to think they've gotten this far. (The Tigers that is.)

legacyme3 : I disagree somewhat.

The Tigers are a better team than you give credit for. They have a good offense with players like Cabrera and Fielder... they have an excellent starter in Verlander (despite his game 1 WS performance)... their weakest link I feel comes from their bullpen, but that doesn't make them a terrible team. Are the a complete, championship team? Not really... but it's not so absurd that they at least made it to the World Series. I've seen weaker teams make it to the World Series before (2008 Rays, for example).

I also don't feel the NL was as solid in comparison as you make it sound. I think all the NL teams were pretty close to one another in talent... but not so awesome that they trump the AL teams by that significant of a margin.

The Nats were missing a key starting pitcher, the Cardinals were all power and no defense, the Reds... well I'm not exactly sure what was wrong with the Reds... and the Giants had no starting pitching prior to this series with the exception of sudden flashes back to when they actually knew how to pitch that came out in must-win situations.

I don't really think the Tigers were the worst AL team in the playoffs. I wasn't incredibly impressed with the Orioles and the Yankees hitters looked pathetic against Detroit. Not to mention the Yankees seemed only barely capable of beating Baltimore to begin with.

Yeah, certain teams don't match up well against others... but when the life of your offense is batting below .200, I think there's more issue than just "not matching up well". Your players just aren't playing with the intensity needed for the playoffs.

Remember... the regular season is meaningless. The only thing you need to do is win enough games to qualify for the playoffs. Once you're in, it doesn't matter what you did before. It matters what you do IN the playoffs. The teams and players who understand this are the ones who are successful. The ones who think they're still in the regular season falter. That's what I see happening all the time and the teams that were supposedly "the best in baseball" that year turn out sub-par postseason performances so often.

Remember the Phillies last year? Best record in baseball. Best rotation I've ever seen on a team with Roy Halladay, Cliff Lee, Cole Hammels, and Roy Oswalt as their top 4... lots of great offensive players like Ryan Howard, Chase Utley, Jayson Werth, etc...

What did they do when the post-season hit? Lost in the first round.

If baseball was so black-and-white that the best team on paper always won it all, it would be utterly boring. Surprises are what makes the game what it is... you see that Wildcard team that barely made it into the playoffs go and show everyone that they really did belong and win everything? The scrape and call their way to the World Series to prove all doubters wrong.

All teams have the same chance for a championship so long as they're in the playoffs and that's the fun of it. It's not like basketball where you have like 16 playoffs teams but you know that the bottom 4 teams don't have a snowball's chance in hell of making it to the finals, so there isn't really a point. No, in baseball any time can surprise you and that's what's great about it.

No team has ever come back from 3-0 in a World Series. Doesn't mean it's an impossibility. Since I'm biased in this one I certainly hope that this doesn't occur this year... but I'm just saying that the Tigers could surprise us all yet.

...but I'm hoping for the sweep.
legacyme3 : I disagree somewhat.
