Hi all. Love the site. Just discovered it recently, and it's a blast to be able to play all the games I grew up with but can't (usually because the systems or controllers have long since ceased to function properly). In fact, the reason I found this site was because I can no longer play my original Gameboy games since I don't have my GBA SP anymore, and the GBA slot in the DS doesn't support GB or GBC games.

But that actually leads to my question: I'm using VisualBoyAdvance to play all those games, but unlike an actual GBA (or even a GBC for that matter) original GB Roms play only in Black and White. I'm wondering if it's possible to colorize them like a real GBA would? The answer might be obvious, but I've looked through all the video options, and I don't see the right method.

I tried one other GB specific emulator, and it colorized them fine, but it had some audio issues. And I prefer VBA anyway, so I'm hoping to find some method for that program.

I'm hoping someone can help with this. Thanks in Advance.

P.S. ...I did not intend that last pun. But when I saw it I had to capitalize it

hi and welcome.
yes its possible to play those old gameboy games in color to some degree.

i suggest first off going to Options then Gameboy and clicking first Automatic in the second section then going back to Options/Gameboy and clicking Border Automatic in the first. this will help those super gameboy games (like pokemon red) display in colors.

for older gameboy games (the ones that display black and white) go to Options then Gameboy and click Colors... this lets you set the default Gameboy Monochrome colors.

remember, some Gameboy games (like pokemon blue) are Super Gameboy enhanced, thats why they play in color on the GBA, and the first options i mention will fix them to show in "Super Gameboy" color.

if you have any other problems ask away now go play your Game, boy (pun intended )

Dude, you're my hero. I was specifically trying to get those Super Game Boy style games to look right, Donkey Kong in particular (which was the debut game for the SGB back in the day, as I recall).

I'd tooled with those very options a number of times, but apparently never in that exact combination.

And for the older games, the monochromatic coloring is fine, since that's all they would have had anyway.

But this is what I was after. Donkey Kong looks beautiful again (even has that old arcade standup border!), and I'll enjoy it immensely.

Thanks!
