All the Vizzed RGR Plugin systems let you adjust the controls using the menu, so you don't have to follow these instructions. When playing any of the games using a Java emulator, you'll need to follow the below instructions:

You can Play the online NES, Game Boy and Game Boy Color games using a PC Controller with a special software called XPadder. The download link is below and it is free. Basically what it does is it lets you remap your keyboard keys to your PC Controller.

https://www.vizzed.com/vizzedboard/controlpanel.php?category=downloads&download=xpadder
NOTE: if you have windows 7, you may need to right click the Xpadder.exe file, go to properties, click Compatibility tab, check the 'Run this program in compatibility mode for:' box and than from the drop down box, choose Windows Vista.

To see video instructions on how to use the program, click below (though it's very simple to use)

No, you dont need to download anything, Genesis games are down at the moment due to licensing issues.
Just play some other system in the meantime and post around and check back later.

Also to go back on topic, this method should allow users to play with their PC controller in the other game rooms, like the Master System or the upcoming SNES room.

None of you really think.

Like the guy above me (^) he didn't really try to find the source of the problem.

Next time find the source, then report !

PS: Or just dig up some info (using windows, firefox, ect)

EDIT: Sorry if this is backseat modding I am just trying to help you people DIY (do it yourself) .

EDIT 2 : I was a newbie when I wrote this

Yeah, but you get more Viz if you have more thumbs up and you can't get any if you do any of the things below.
1. spamming
2. get banned

Also I just played kirby with the controller.

Funner indeed!

on topic: You should try it! Get a controller form your local hardware store and let the "Real" flashbacks begin (It feels just like the NES,Gens, ect when you use a controller).

Great to hear Crono. Yeah, some games, like the mario games, HAVE to be played with a controller, otherwise they're far to hard to be enjoyable with a keyboard.

Just used my Dualshock 3 to play some super mario world. Although i did not use xpadder, i used a program called joy2key b/c i was having problems with xpadder not registering the input from the controllers (even though windows was). If i were you i would try joy2key first but make sure that you have installed the drivers for the controller or else it wont work

Actually it does work on Win7 all you have to do is right click on the program and click on Troubleshoot Compatibility. I don't have a controller to actually test this out but the program is running, but if anyone wants to test this out to make sure it works go right ahead and prove me wrong (or right ).

BUMP!
Anyways... I use Joy2Key as well, it's very easy to use if you take a look at it, and it's free (if you download the Win7 compatible version from the site, it costs like $10 or something like that) for even the latest version. You can also program it to work with more buttons than you have by having it trigger a different response (as if you're using another controller) when hitting certain button combos (like holding one down while hitting others). It's really neat, so if you have Win7 or would just like more recent software, use Joy 2 Key

I'm running Windows XP sp3, on a Gigabyte MA77OT-UD3P with a 3.2 ghtz AMD Phenom II X4, 4 gigs DDR3 ram. Just recently received a Logitech Wireless Rumblepad 2, when I go to play SNES roms using RGR plugin, the keyboard/gamepad selection for player 1 and 'extra devices' is disabled, while mouse is enabled. I don't know what I did but there has been times when the keyboard/gamepad options stay selected. Usually any time I enable gamepad/keyboard disables it again.

When are the other systems/emulators going to be compatible with the plugin?

The games are much more smooth when using the plugin.

I cant figure out how to play the c64 games could you help me out. Im sure the mistake is on my end. This is the message on the board I am seeing-Im trying to play wasteland.

You must press 'Reset' to start the game

Controls vary depending on game, since this is a computer based system,
it may use any key but Shift, Ctrl, Enter/Return and Spacebar are the
primary keys
This is like the "start" menu
What on earth does it mean Reset?

Jordanv78 : How do I program it to work with my controller? From what I understand, the XPadder thing I've been told about only works for programming controllers to work with NES, Game Boy, and Game Boy Color games. How do I program it with other systems?

My controller is brand new and its brand name is Frisby. It looks like a PS2 controller, enough said.

MarioMcFly : I wasn't referring to Xpadder, I was saying if you download the RGR plugin provided by Vizzed you can go in and edit the controls for any of the systems it supports. To download the latest RGR plugin update, go to: https://www.vizzed.com/boards/thread.php?id=8676

Everything will be much easier if you do this.

MarioMcFly : Download the RGR using the link that I gave you in my last post. Then install the file on your computer. Once that's done, go to a game you want to play, and Select "Play using RGR plugin"

Once the game loads, it will tell you in the upper right hand corner where to go to configure your controller for that system. You don't have to do it for each game, but configuring the controllers is a little different for each system.

Hope that helps.

Jordanv78 : I've got the controller working for the NES, Super NES, and Sega Genesis games now. But I'm having trouble with the Nintendo 64 games. (Don't worry about the Game Boy [Original, Color, Advance] games, I'm sure I can get the controller to work with them easily.) The Control Pad/left analog on my controller won't do what I set it to do. In Pokemon Snap, it won't move at all and in Star Wars: Shadows of the Empire, it keeps changing the camera angle (which the C-Buttons are supposed to do, I set those on the keyboard's arrow keys, that I can live with). Those are the only 2 games I've tried to work with the controller. Am I supposed to download that XPadder program (because I really don't feel like it) to get the N64 games to work with it? Am I supposed to set the second drop box (on the control config screen) to "USB Analog Joystick"? Tell what I'm doing wrong.

MarioMcFly : Forget Xpadder. All that does is let you emulate keyboard strokes for a controller. This is only helpful for the Java emulators that only let you use the keyboard for control

You need to have a controller with enough buttons to be able to work right with N64 controls. Part of the problem you are having is the N64 controller is totally different than any controller that was ever made, thus making it hard to get the controls exactly how you need them. This can be annoying at times. But yes, you need to configure the USB Analog Joystick to the joystick on your USB controller(Hopefully you have one) This can be kinda a pain, but you just have to be patient with it. Good Luck!

I've got a pc controller but I can't get Starfox 64 to recognize it. All my Pokémon games recognize it though. Any thoughts on what I can do to fix it?

justagirl789 : Have you tried it for both N64 emulators? One of them might be more compatible than the other. Also with 1964, have you configured the controls and it still isn't recognized?

acam : Have you already tested and calibrated the controller in your Control Panel to verify that it works?

I've got my controller connected, my computer recognizes it and everything, but for some reason the RGR doesn't seem to think my controller is connected. I've been trying to use it for N64 games, it says is supports controllers, but when I go to the controller config menu, the options are "keyboard" and "not plugged in"

I've tried it on a few different N64 games, a Genesis game, and a GBA game, no luck for any of them. I'd appreciate any help with this.

darkdisciple13 : In order to configure the controls for N64 games you have to use the 1964 emulator. MUPEN doesn't not currently support controller configuration in the RGR.

What's the issue you are having with the Genesis emulator? Do you get an error when trying to configure?

Jordanv78 : I am in the 1964 emulator, it isn't recognizing my controller as plugged in. When I click on the drop down controller selection box, the options listed are Keyboard and Not Plugged In. I've tried it in multiple games, unplugging the controller and plugging it back in, turning it on and off before and during the game running, and even checked to make sure my computer still recognized the controller as plugged in while the game was running, which it did.

My issue with the Genesis games is resolved, for some reason the first two games I tried (Sonic and Theme Park) wouldn't let me, but when I tried to do it in Sonic 2, I could, and the changes transferred to both the other two games I had tried earlier. Not sure what happened there, but I'd rather focus on the current N64 issue than dwell on the mystery of why it suddenly decided to work on the Sega.

Darn if only I have a pc controller to use, but I thought I not need to buy one. Now I want to get one to play the games more easily.

darkdisciple13 : Uh, I wasn't dwelling on the Sega issue. I was asking for clarity of the problem you were having. So now that it's resolved, I'm not worried about it...

This sounds like an issue with the 1964 emulator itself, not so much the RGR plugin. I have seen people complaining about this but no real solutions after doing a quick google search. My hunch is something to do with the drivers used for the 360 controller to work on your PC.

Jordanv78 : I wasn't implying you were dwelling, I was just stating I wasn't worrying about why it suddenly decided to work. Sorry if I came off sounding like a JackDonkey I do appreciate your trying to help. I might end up having to use a key-listener program, which I wanted to avoid since it wouldn't help me play Mario Party (with the whole partial movement of the joystick and all)

My controller isn't a 360 controller though, it's one that says it's compatible with PC, PlayStation, and 360. USB connection. Made by Thrustmaster (which is a GREAT name for a game controller company by the way.) So I don't know if that means the drivers are different... I know I did install a driver for the controller, don't know if that changes anything.

Thanks again for all your help, I do appreciate it.

Am I doing something wrong? When I followed the link in the OP and then the link that was in that area, it said that the download was not found. Is there an alternative link?

Ktanaqui : If you are using the RGR plugin, there is no reason to use Xpadder. You can configure the controls inside the game menu.

I'm not sure if I'm using the RGR or not - but many of the games that I'd like to use a PC Controller with (Ms. Pac-Man, Pacmania for example) will not recognize my controller at all. It works for other games on my computer - like my Pokemon Conquest game.

Ktanaqui : You don't know if you are using the plugin or not? How is that possible? What link are you clicking when you go to play a game?

Also, have you tried to re-configure the controls by double clicking on the game menu? (Except MUPEN for N64 does not allow you to do that)

What brand of controller are you trying to use?

I have; sometimes it pulls up like that. Other times I have to click ESC. I know that, at some points I am using the RGR plug-in; I'm just not sure on which games... I'll make a list.

....

Harvest Moon FOMT: RGR, Yes: Won't Accept Controller
Ms. Pac-Man: RGR, Yes: Wont Accept Controller
Pac-Mania: RGR, Unknown: Won't Accept Controller (Played using only the Try for High Score method)
Harvest Moon 64: RGR, Yes, 1964: Won't Accept Controller
Frogger 2: RGR, Yes: Won't Accept Controller

....

Okay, so it appears that all of the games that I play frequently that I have tried a Controller with are RGR... and none of them have accepted it. The controller is this one: GameStop Afterglow Controller . It works fine for any and all games that I try to play using DesMuMe, NO$GBA, and Project64.

Ktanaqui : Ok thanks for the information. Have you tried a different browser to see if you have different results?

Also I noticed while going through your game list that they are for all different systems. If you are using the RGR plugin, you should be able to only configure the controller once and have it save your config for all the other games in that system.

For example if I configure the controls for GBA it should work for all games. Take harvest MOon FOMT for example. Does your controller work for other GBA games, just not that one?

Try this game: https://www.vizzed.com/play/pokemon-fire-red-gba-online-game-boy-advance-10644-game

Bought, tested... And still nothing. No go, it's not recognizing the controller at all. What browser do you suggest I try? I'm currently using Google Chrome. I have at my disposal Firefox, Internet Explorer, Opera...

Ktanaqui : Ok so it seems that the GBA emulator does not see the controller you are using.

I'm starting to wonder if any of the emulators are recognizing your controller. Does it allow to to set keyboard functions to the keys?

Try this game: https://www.vizzed.com/play/crystalis-nes-online-nintendo-nes-202-game does it allow you to configure the controls?

Also I would try Firefox first just to see if there is a difference there.

No go on the RGR for that one; I can't figure out how to even access controls for the Non-RGR emulators. Testing Firefox.

Okay, so... partial success. The RGR recognizes that a controller IS attached in Firefox and does accept the controls. Next question: What add-ons would interfere with RGR detecting the controller? I have the following add-ons:

Web of Trust
Adblock
Flashblock
Snap Links Lite
TweetRight
Website Login (HP stuff)
Youtube to MP3

Ktanaqui : The game I linked IS using the plugin. Heck, it's the game of the week. You play the game by clicking the link on the far right...the one labeled "Vizzed RGR Plugin" Just like you would for any of the other RGR plugin games... see here: http://puu.sh/14yGE Is that not what you were clicking?

Also, I'm not sure which would be interfering. Possibly The "Block" ones. I would try disabling them one by one. And then testing after each one you have disabled. That would be the best way to find out exactly the root of the problem.

Alright; I'll let you know when I figure it out. (For future issues.) How do I send the Viz back to you?

Edit: So, that was rather easy. Turns out that Adblock was the culprit so I've marked Vizzed to be completely excluded. (Thus, fixing the issue.)
Edit2: Nevermind the question; Viz has been returned.

Ktanaqui : Hmm that's weird that adblock is causing your issue since I assume many people on this website use adblock. Maybe a recent update messed things up, or it's something to do with it's communication to your controller/drivers. Either way I'll mark it in my notes for the future.

Let me know if you have further issues. BTW you didn't need to send me the Viz back, but thanks anyways.

You're welcome; even if I knew ahead of time that I did not need to, I still would have. It's not fair for me to profit from issues that my PC develops. Maybe it's a combination of the Apps that I have installed and stopping the one broke whatever connection they were creating to block it? I have no idea... Wild guessing. Thanks for the help though

Davideo7 : Is it possible to connect a Game Cube controller to Vizzed? I know that you can use one for a PC in general if you have the adapter, but will the control stick and everything else work?

Hi, I looked through the pages within this thread and was unable to find an answer, but I apologize if I overlooked it. The XPadder software does not support WIndows 8. Is there anything I can do, or am I out of luck as far as using a PC Controller? Thanks!
