Doesn't anyone here ever watch "Dirty Jobs" on Discovery channel?  Mike Rowe helped catch and process those things and even ate them, along with his crew.  It didn't seem like Mike liked them very much.  So, I would have to guess that they are an acquired taste, like most odd things.

I mean, how many people here have ever seen or eaten Baloots?  They are a Philippine item: basically a fertilized egg that has been buried for a while and then dug up and eaten.  When I was in the Navy in the 1970s, I saw a man eat one and he liked it.  It stank like rotten food!
