Show off your ink here, your designs, tats you are thinking off, discuss tattoo's here.

I will be getting my first ink on my upper left arm. A Celtic Cross of sorts. But, the design I am getting is customized, so nobody else will have it... EVA!!! As soon as I get it, I will post it.

So... got any designs you want to show off? Want to show off your tats? Go ahead.

ABSOLUTELY NO DISSING TATS!!! OR TALKING BAD ABOUT TATS!!!

I am pretty sure that there was already a tattoo thread here somewhere, but it's off the first page so meh.

I currently have two tattoos, just got the second one last month. The first is the Sagittarius arrow done in brown to look like a permanent henna tattoo... I currently can't find my picture of it, but it's on my left shoulder blade. The second is the Least Dragonmark of Finding from the Eberron campaign setting, done in black ink because I couldn't afford the full color version... but here it is on the day I got it (on my right shoulder blade)

I want a few. The first one I want on my wrist as a constant reminder of the struggles I had to stop cutting, and as a positive force to not do it ever again. The next is one that is in honor of my mom, my sisters and my grandma. All the females in my life I care for deeply. I also want one in honor of my baby brother who has autism and who is always an inspiration to me. And the nly other one I want is one behind my ear in the shape of a music note. Music is a huge part of my life and Its also in honor of my fiance who is an amazing musician as well.

I have decided to get a second tattoo, but the Celtic Cross one I mentioned in the Original post is still going to happen first.

The second tat that I plan on getting, that I have thought long and hard about, is getting Vini, Vidi, Vici, arched across my upper back. Vini, Vidi, Vici is Latin for "I came, I saw, I conquered." Growing up (hence the Vini), I went through a lot of tough times and hardships (hence the Vidi), and eventually, I triumphed over them (hence the Vici). I don't know how much this one will be, but it will be a good bit, because I want some nice text style when I get it done, finally.

I wish I didn't get as many tatts that I did when I was younger.. I'm going through this laser removal stuff which hurts - a LOT more than the tat.

Basically I got tatted down from the neck to the hands

Yeah I used to have full sleeves all around each arm, fortunately I've been able to remove most of it - I don't have any pictures though; if I were to show you now it wouldn't have any design lol. My tats now are mostly either faded or incomplete because of the laser treatments.

tRIUNE Well, darn, that sucks.

What do you think about getting "Vini, Vidi, Vice" arching across my back on my shoulder bones... that is one I have been wanting for some time...

Less than a month until I get my Keltic Cross Tat...

I was thinking, after all these years, that I wanted to finally get a tattoo. I was thinking about a big cool looking dragon on my leg, or chest. If anyone sees any cool designs, float them my way! I'm looking for some suggestions.

I don't have any pictures of them, but I have a tattoo on my lower back that says "In Loving Memory: Marvin Case". It's for my grandpa who died on my 14th birthday.

I also have another tattoo on my left arm of Betty Boop. What can I say? I love Betty.

I plan on getting two tattoos once I'm done with Law school. One is going to be on my left side which is a Cerberus wolf with one head stoping at my shoulder blade on my back, one on my chest, and one going down close to my elbow. The other one is going to be on my right side and its a pair of 3 crosses with 6 angel wings on each cross. Gonna cost me a lot of money. I would post a picture but I'm terrible at drawing so I'll work with my tattoo guy to help me get my idea on paper.

I have two tattoos, myself, but this post is a question to other ink sporting folks. Do you think the mainstream social stigma of showing a tattoo is changing with the current generation? It feels like a clear majority of people in the 20-30 age bracket either have a tattoo or have plans to get one. However, lots of places of business still enforce uniform rules to cover them. I find this strange considering everywhere I have worked had mid to upper management with tattoos or piercings.

I suppose this is directed more so to the U.S. posters since my stay in Europe last Fall had a vastly different culture.

skye565 : The tattoo thing is kind of weird with me. I think that some tattoos can be super trashy. Like if you go to talk to a banker or a loan manager or something and you see a tattoo, I usually first think that it's kind of unprofessional. But then it's a manner what the tattoo is. If it's just like a small something on the back of your wrist or something that is easily seen but also clearly meaningful to the person (example: I knew a girl who had her mother's name on the back of her wrist with angel wings because her mother was murdered and she wanted to be able to see her name and keep her close), then I have no problem with it whatsoever. But if you go in to talk to someone professionally and they have their sleeves rolled back with rows and rows and rows of tribal or barbed wire going up their arm, or skulls/snakes/other stupid cliches, it's just like, really? If you were dumb as a kid and just wanted to permanently mark your body with a bunch of BS just for the sake of being cool, at least don't show it to me when I have to put my trust in you about something. I get that people change and just because you were dumb when you were younger and you got some silly tattoos just for fun, you can still be a professional, But unfortunately, you can't always tell when they got it. If those tattoos are just a few years old and you've mentioned you've been with your company since longer than that, that's just annoying and offputting for me. Tattoos aren't enough to make me dislike a person just flat out because obviously that's ridiculous, but it does make me pay closer attention to their behavior. Would I really want to hire a lawyer that, since opening his firm, got some skulls tattooed on the backs of his fingers and some skulls on his arms? Probably not. It's his decision to do what he wants with his body, but at least put it someewhere where you can hide it, because there are plenty of people who have a similar opinion.

Here's another example. My 25 year old cousin wants to be a nurse. Good, fine, the medical scene always needs staff and being a nurse is a very meaningful and worthwhile thing to do. However, she has tattoos all over her body where you can see them. "But KG", you say, "It's her body and she should be able to do whatever she wants with it and still expect fairness in the workplace!" So I ask you this: If your mother was in the hospital and had a nurse tending to her who had the words FALLEN and ANGEL down her forearms in gothic lettering, two pairs of brass knuckles on her chest with a big piece of BS tribal she saw on a t-shirt all over her chest (where basically the only way you couldn't see any of it would be if she were wearing a turtleneck), and a picture of a cartoon chick with big huge tits and a detailed 'nether region', I don't think this would be the kind of person you would want tending to someone you love who needs care. Getting these kinds of things just denotes immaturity and an obvious complex for wanting attention for either being a 'bad boy/girl' or just hanging out with a shady crowd that gets a bunch of expensive, ugly tattoos for no reason other than because they can. Sure, tattoos really aren't that accurate of a way to judge someone and there are always exceptions to the case, and in a lot of job environments it doesn't really matter one way or the other. But I'm pretty damn sure that if you went to a daycare provider and she had FALLEN ANGEL down her arms and sets of brass knuckles on her chest, you wouldn't want to leave your child there, because if she thinks it's appropriate to portray that kind of image and not cover those things up, it could still be a way of expressing her personality for her. So I feel like if you have these tattoos but you've grown out of them and they don't express who you are or portray the image you'd like, at least cover them up in the work place.

I'm thinking about getting a tattoo between my shoulder blades, but I'm not sure what yet. I know it's going to be my daughter's name and birthdate, but I'm not sure about how I'd like it to look or if I want an image of anything.

Your argument is basing impressions off the aesthetic, but I'm glad to read it due to the fact that it's representing the same stigma I want to address. If that lawyer is the best at his job then why discriminate against hand tattoos?

This question might have more to do with how culture perpetuates itself. For example, where does one learn that the art of tattoos cannot be incorporated into the workplace? I have wondered if we would have a tattooed president (or maybe we already have and didn't know it). Honestly, I would prefer politicians to have things like tattoos to show that they are actually involved with our community. Rather than one of elites who make decisions based on ruling class interests and so on and so forth.

skye565 : Well one I'm not sure who would get a hand tattoo, seems kind of odd to get a tattoo on your hand (although I guess there is wierder places to get a tattoo done. I'm sure one of these days our politicians will have a tattoo. The big thing is that tattoos can sometimes represent gangs and we don't want our politician to be a gang member or get killed because a rival gang saw the tattoo and though he was a memeber.

I wouldn't care if a president or someone in politics had tattoos. It all depends on the tattoo. I mean if it's just a bunch of stupid BS, like really clearly just there to be there like most barbed wire, tribal, etc. that are just there simply for the sake of being a tattoo, I just think it's stupid.

But if they had like American type things (or whatever culture they're part of or who is significant to them), crosses, portraits, blah blah blah, then I think even people who think tattoos as a whole are trashy could get over it.

"For example, where does one learn that the art of tattoos cannot be incorporated into the workplace?"

Tattoos in America aren't like the tattooing and body markings of other cultures where they had to overcome great feats or obtain a new social standing to get them. Tattooing in America back before it was so common place was done in prison or in gangs, I believe. Sure there are exceptions to the rule but by the time it came here, it was "Hey let's melt a comb into a point and stab the sh*t out of some guy's arm with ink so that everyone knows he's part of the group". Now people get them for all sorts of reasons but it's fairly easy to associate someone with their body just littered with tattoos to be part of a rock and roll life style or part of a shady background. Again, that's stereotyping and that's not right. But there's a reason it's common place to think that way. A good portion of the time people got their tattoos they were into drugs and crap, or in a rough patch. People change and that's all well and good, but you can't always tell when people got them, and again if people don't like them, they usually cover them up. There are plenty of places on the body where it's easy to cover a tattoo but the person chooses not to, which means that they are allowing themselves to allow that part of them to be included in the overall opinion you form of the person. A lot of times, tattoos aren't appropriate or necessary and that's why a lot of work places prefer not to have tattooed people doing a lot of the face to face and customer relations type positions.

Are you going to be another brick in the wall to corporate america or are you going to be who you want to be? That is the question you should ask yourself before getting a tattoo in visible areas. If a business wants you to hide tattoos that is not the only thing they are hiding from their customers and employees.

In life, you will come to realize how society is built on this "perfect image" agenda but everything is far from it. Look in magazines, turn on televisions, look at politicians, watch tv commercials. Lies everywhere all hidden by their flawless agenda to scam people out of money.

That is not me, which is why I got tattoos in all the wrong places (hands and neck and arms). So what if I don't get a corporate job I hate them, I know how they operate and that is not who I am. A lot of people in America are what I just described. They don't get tattoos because they are scared to take risk, scared to be judged, scared to live with mistakes and scared to be who they want to be. They want to live a fantasy life by playing along with the perfection agenda.

These are the same types of people who tell you that you need this 4 year degree to be successful in life. You need this axe deodorant to get laid. You need this hydroxycut diet pill to get a six pack. You need this proactive lotion to erase all the acne on your face. You need to vote for this politician to fix your country. The list goes on and on. No one is perfect, accept it and be yourself.

If you do not like tattooed people you are equivalent to a racist for you are judging people based on skin color.
