So yeah, basically a simple question. I've heard of these "love languages" before (it would be nice if someone knew a reference I could use). Basically it's how you express your feelings best/what makes you feel best. I think the general areas I've heard were touch, words, gifts, acts of service, and... quality time or something like that?

Anyways, mine's been pretty obvious to me for quite a while: touch. It's just natural for me: I rough-house with my little brother, hug all my little sisters to death, that sort of thing. And with my girlfriend it's even more obvious, especially because she's also a touch kind of person. We sit and just cuddle on the couch and it's pretty much the best feeling either of us has felt. We're almost always holding hands or something like that because it just feels right.

So how do you express love, and what makes you feel most loved?

Hmm...I won't lie, I rarely expresses said feelings but when I do...probably through facial expressions and the associated words. My facial expressions can speak a lot when I want to convey a certain feeling, and the associated words often acts as a confirmation. The words in particular may not necessarily convey much without the expressions, and my tone can be very deceitful at times...actually, the more I think about it, the more I realize I don't really convey emotion in a clear-cut way, especially love. 

Well I actually usually come right out and say it to them. I feel this. I also am a very touch oriented person as well. Though this applies less to the love of family and more of the love of a different type. I like to be near them with my arm around them and it makes me feel great. I feel the best in the world when I am touching them and telling them my feelings.

Well this may sound a tad stereotypical idea coming from a writer but I personally have always found that it is good to express feelings by writing it down. Although I have no problem whatsoever expressing myself verbally, (What New Yorker has a problem with that?) I think it is perhaps better to let it go on paper rather than potentially letting your feelings get the better of you in the heat of the moment in a conversation. Writing it down at least allows the writer to probably think things out more clearly than speaking things that they wish they could take back.

It also allows the receiver a chance to potentially comprehend things in a better way than they would in a conversation although in my line of work I deal with a lot of people who don’t read what I say as much as they just prefer to use my forum to launder hate speech. It is unfortunate that people resort to that especially when in most cases they wouldn’t conduct themselves like that in person or in their place of employment. Although I always try to maintain a professional manner and remain kind even to those who don’t like me, I will be the first one to admit that it is not the easiest thing to do because like everyone else I too have feelings.

It just annoys me sometimes that people choose to conduct themselves in such a vulgar way simply because they think because it’s online that it gives them an excuse to behave in such a nasty way.

I’m sorry for slightly getting off the subject but the principal is the same. There are times where I will read something so nasty on my material that often has nothing to do with my material whatsoever that I often verbally say things to myself that I would never say publicly. (I’m definitely not the only one.)

So on those occasions that I have to deal with those types of people that I have to take a moment and write out a clear professional response even if it’s a polite way of saying to someone you’re out of your mind etc.


I think the same thing applies to relationships and in other areas in life. It’s just how we decide to go about things in how we choose to express our feelings is what really matters.

I've read the book you are referring to (I think) and I express my feelings through actions. I do things for people. My wife loves this . I'll clean up a whole bunch of the house totally randomly just to make her feel better.

I'm the opposite though. People can do stuff for me and I'm sort of meh about it. I would prefer a hug, kiss, back rub, etc. as appreciation for what I do.

I express my thoughts and feelings with my eyes and my manner of speech. I'm not so much a man of action as other people because my eyes often tell the story, and even if I do a good job hiding it from time to time, I have another weakness, the way I speak.

No basically...not really....it is just that if I get a real opportunity...

When I'm trying to express my feelings to a certain person I usually just tell them. But when I'm trying to express a feeling to myself I usually write about it. If I'm feeling sad, I'll write about why I'm sad and it makes me feel better. The same if I'm angry, irritated, or unusually happy.

When I express my feelings to people I generally try to show that feeling through body language, and if that doesn't work out, I tell them.

I express my self in many ways. I might punch the wall if I'm angry or if I'm lucky I wont do anything dumb and just write it down.if I'm happy it is easily seen in my face. So I other words I express my self in many numbers of ways, everyone does.

Sometimes I am too shy to say it in person, so I will text/IM the person.

I like to give people gifts, or make art for them, or do favors to help them.

My boyfriend and I are in an online/long-distance relationship. So we can't touch. Without physical affection I feel the need to fill that gap with what I say. It's forced me to practice saying all of my feelings out loud (on Skype), which I usually struggle with because I am shy.

I actually tend to repress physical signs of emotion. However, I am not afraid to speak of them (usually). Sometimes if it's strong enough, I'll write or draw. My poem from earlier this year is a good example.

I don't really show my feelings toward anyone.  I try to keep my emotion as far away as possible from personal or business affairs,  but I must say that sometimes my actions may give me away but the blunt tone of voice use to deny is very persuading.

I usually show my feelings through saying it and also through action, mixed.
