McCain is not someone who plans to withdraw anytime soon. As he stated he wants to stay in the middle east for 100 more years and since Bush is supporting him things don't look good for him or our future if he is elected.

yeah he did.... but there is no way it will last that long.

Looking at the 3 remaining potentials I'm not really looking forward to this election. I don't think any of them have a realistic vision for how to govern the USA. I think McCain might actually be the best of the worst.... which is kind of scary.

If I have to pick one I'd pick McCain, but none of them are great.

I'd go with Obama and even Hillary over John. I mean, yeah, Hillary looks scary... but that is the only complaint I have ever heard about her. Seriously, what is everyone so afraid of with Hillary? I don't like her either, but come on, she's better than JOHN MCCAIN! Do most of you even understand what he plans to do, or what Hillary plans to do, or what Obama plans to do?

Democracy in this nation is a fallacy at best when none of the population knows jack s*** about their elected officials or how they got to be where they are or why.

Anyway with voting regions still in place that can be modified by representatives it isn't even straight-up a matter of your votes AND THE STUPID RETARDED ELECTORAL COLLEGE, but it's a matter of your votes (and the stupid retarded electoral college) versus the people doing the math of figuring out what counties to group with what other opposing counties to cancel out as many votes as possible. If you don't know what I'm talking about or don't believe me, look it up.

But back on topic: McCain does believe it could take 50-100 years. Think about how many other countries we still occupy that aren't even on the news anymore because it's SUCH old news. It is not even unrealistic to believe we will be there for a hundred years.

^^^ Read ^^^

I know my politics and I hate em all, nuff said.

I also don't see a problem with being in Iraq. Go ahead say "You're not in the military" but if you say that end that with "yet"

I intend on joining the military Marine Corp boot camp is filled until October which would be the best time for me to join. Also, most of my friends (already in the military) said that they think we should be there.

I have a LOT of respect for the people in the military.

Currently 2 of my friends who I know in person who are on this board are in the military; this includes:
DNG and John

So you have my great respect Randy if you join. I would have joined the 'Special Forces' if I wasn't engaged but since I am, I don't think it'd be right for me to leave my future wife for long periods of time.

Anyway, I don't really like any of the 3 candidates either but as almost everyone else in this thread said, McCain is probably the best choice of the 3. And hopefully he picks a good vice president (he is old so there's always that chance of him dying).

Well, that is out of context. He was saying that the job needed to be finished and if that ment a long term presence in Iraq, then that is what its going to take. We are already handing some stuff over to the Iraqis. The anbar province was just handed over to the IA(Iraqi Army).

I am in the military and I am very proud of the accomplishments we have made in Iraq and the Midle east. I signed up in a time of war. I knew I had the possibility of going to Iraq and every soldier knows that. Its part of the contract. We have an all volunteer force and that is great. Nobody who doesn't want to go doesn't have to. Well, there aren't many people who full heartedly want to go. I am excited for it, but there are a lot of draw backs. Like leaving your family, friends, and entire life for a year or more. A lot of time and sacrafice is involved. The money is good, so thats a plus. Comrodery(speeling?), travel, and adventrue as well i suppose.

The electoral college does make sense. I know its very frustrating to lose the election but win the popular vote. The reason is so that the candidates actually represent a majority of the country. Including rural areas with low populations. Otherwise they would never campaign in those states and it would a country run by the coasts... well more than it already is. And plus, the presidential nominee has only lost the election but won the popular vote three times in history. So it is a very rare occurance.

In 1876 there were a total of 369 electoral votes available with 185 needed to win. Republican Rutherford B. Hayes, with 4,036,298 popular votes won 185 electoral votes. His main opponent, Democrat Samuel J. Tilden, won the popular vote with 4,300,590 votes, but won only 184 electoral votes. Hayes was elected president.

In 1888 there were a total of 401 electoral votes available with 201 needed to win. Republican Benjamin Harrison, with 5,439,853 popular votes won 233 electoral votes. His main opponent, Democrat Grover Cleveland, won the popular vote with 5,540,309 votes, but won only 168 electoral votes. Harrison was elected president.

In 2000 there were a total of 538 electoral votes available with 270 needed to win. Republican George W. Bush, with 50,456,002 popular votes won 271 electoral votes. His Democratic opponent, Al Gore, won the popular vote with 50,999,897 votes, but won only 266 electoral votes. Bush was elected president

So its not a terribly huge deal. Just think about it like that.

I respect both candidates, but they both have massive weaknesses under their belts.

McCane has 2 very visible flaws that could mess up his campaign:

He is not necessarily the youngest person in the world...
...And he picked PALIN? I wouldn't be mad at her if she didn't A) Have absolutely no foreign policy experience at ALL B) Act immensely homophobic C) work just a vessel so McCane can get the Womens' vote.

Obama has 2 as well:
He says he will bring change, but he isn't specific as to what change there will be.

Sometimes, he seems more like a political rock star instead of a presidential candidate.
