For years now parents and law makers have turned to video game violence to be the answer for why children commit crimes. From my own personal past when I was a kid my mom was a down to earth kind of person. She trusted me like no other and didn't mind and or pay attention to what games I would rent or buy. In my era of growing up it used to be Mortal Kombat. I think that was the first ever game that people questioned cause it contained blood in the violence. I guess what I'm trying to say is that in my era of growing up there wasn't really one single video game to blame for child violence. Nowadays it could be a different story. Games have much more evolved now. If its the games fault then really its still the parents fault. I don't know of one game rental place around here that will just let a child rent any video game. However what other game made could really persuade a child into committing a crime except for maybe the GTA line? For the most part I am against the idea that video games are behind child violence. Kids learn more from there surroundings and there own way of thinking. Parents are to blame until children hit a certain age group. I know personally in my house my children can only play games that I feel are age appropriate. If you really look around you not only video games but movies, TV shows, music and even cartoons are a bad influence on children. Its all out there and you can't shelter a child from it you can only educate them between right and wrong.

I think that video games should have violence even for kids because it would teach them that not all people are nice and happy. I'm not talking about GTA standards, I mean little things. When it comes to T and M games I think the violence should be increased so that it appeals to the age group. For adult only games the violence should be extremely high.

you cant really help it when kids who have parents that just buy them whatever the heck they want, causing those kids to pick up on the rated M violence. then they go off to their friends and pretty much drag them into it too....

Of course not!! I will play violent games as long as it involves fighting bad guys!!

I don't play any games that involves hurting innocent people, for example...Grand Theft Auto!!

& as for kids, it depends on if their parents let them play those games!! If they do let them play them, fine, but if they don't let them, fine as well!!

I study phycology in college if you check out the bundora study you will see that seeing violence on games,tv,media or real life will affect you. you are more likely to copy the aggresion see on these are more likely to be repeted if

the same sex showing aggresion
role modle
Also it they get rewarded for showing aggresion

So all the sighs point to yes

Some kids (and teenagers even) can get heavily influenced by games. It's like they love the game so much, they want to re-enact them in real life. It depends a lot on their past background and upbringing.

It can get bad (like shooting incidents in high schools) or just plain silly (just ask those wanna-be Pokemon trainers throwing their Pokeballs around their house).

well my opinion is that videogames are getting the same raw deal as cartoons, elvis, iron maiden, tv, movies and more. just an easy answer to a complex problem. i grew up playing doom and duke nukem and other like them. i personally think that age does matter some about what a kid should play but i put much more stock in the maturity of the individual child. my family was always there to point out right from wrong and taught me that what goes on in a games is pure fiction and because of their teachings i can play these m rated games even before i was 17 (turned 17 in February) and never EVER thought about repeating things i saw in games. it's like i heard one of the kids in columbine saying this shotgun is straight out of doom. it caused doom a lot of s*** over a kid who just wanted to sound bad ass. i think people who blame music/movies/tv/games/ect. are just making excuses for their own stupidity.

In no way, shape, or form would I say a video game makes you a violent person. You come in and leave the same person you were when playing a video game, for the most part. People become violent through life's expeirence. The people that blame video games are just morons who are finding escape goats to pinpoint when its really not the cause of it------->

Well, it depends on the youth's reaction. If it's a mindless, following-anything-they-see youth, it could possibly affect them. But I would say no overall.

All youth are pretty mindless and gullabale, but if you become violent from a video game theres more there, psychological problems, etc. and like I said earlier, it really reflects on the parents when it somes to those things, not all the time, but alot of the time...

It really depands on the game.Games such as Grand Theft Auto do because you can go around shooting and killing people with no consiqunces.Other games such as The Legend of Zelda and Final Fantasy do not because you can die and your fighting real people your fighting monsters or ghosts and such.Infact Scinetists have proven gamesd inwitch there are consiqunces and you are not fighting people and are fighting Monster and exe,it aculleys releases strees and anger and makes kids less violent and if anyone does say that video games make kids violent its bad games like Grand Theft Auto where you just go around slaughtering people and nothing happens. Also alot of the "kids who shoot up a school because they played violent video games" almost always had sociall, perantal,or emotianol problems. So in closing don't blame video games.

It could be, that just depends on how influential you are. (Like a small boy who ends up doing what his role model does) It depends on what kind of violent game it is , GTAIV is *OMG, I just killed someone for fun, I'm SO happy, if only I could do this in real life*, stuff like Mario is *I stomped on a Goomba because he was helping a big dragon from hurting the Princess, I did a good thing today!*

I don't entirely think so. I think half of it is hype, but I do think there is a bit of truth to it. I think video games can desensitize.

Depends on the age/game...

I've played a few violent ones myself and I've had no negative effects...

I must say though, they have some pretty F'ed up stuff out there...Even though I did find games like MadWorld quite addicting. I mean, you can impale a guys anus with a rusty spike. Whats not to love?

I have huge issues with this topic. Saying videogames causes violence is ridiculous. Why? Because nearly anyone who says this completely IGNORES all the other factors. Outside influence, upbringing, social, economic background. Btw, Jack Thompson needs to go away.

Well I think "Murder Simulator" is a little extreme. The purpose of a simulator is to accustom the user to the conditions they will experience in reality. I don't think the goal of video game producers is to create a world of mindless unthinking killers (Although it would be a much more epic day-to-day world). I do think that video games have an effect on us however. The thing is that everyone looks at it as a negative thing that we are desensitized to violence. I dont think games encourage violence. They utilize it but, if you can't separate a game from reality... you're pretty messed up anyways. But, let's face it, if some serious stuff happens and we are forced into a situation where its kill or be killed (which is not as unlikely as most people like to pretend it is), I don't think being exposed to it is necessarily bad.

Beyond that, It's fun so eff anyone who says don't play them because theyre violent! I know they are, I'm a dude! Violence is awesome! Also, the case could be made that it's a healthy release rather than acting out violently on living people, you can take it out on a game.
