Did anyone know that it was called 'final' fantasy, because it was square soft (now square enix) last chance to make a successful game before they go broke. Interesting story, read it on wikipedia.

And really, Final Fantasy is just a name, but most of them that are made only have 1 game for it.
Unless they are epic, like 7, then there are multiple ones made for it.

I know the topic itself is quite old, but just to throw in what I instantly thought of when I read over it... who cares? And really what does it matter?

Final Fantasy for years has been a marketable game, they made the first one.. it worked so the second one tied in to ride off that success. It's not like Square (and then Square-Enix) only rides off that one success, it's just a way to link together a series of games that may not be connected in specific ways.. but there's always those broad elements that carry over (chocobos, moogles, etc.)

In the end, I don't see it as anything more than an easy way for the fans of the series to follow it around, nothing more and nothing less. Final Fight wasn't the... Final Fight, and the titles really aren't trying to say that. Eh.... I know the post was more about volume of games, but in that respect.. if something works and people want it, why not? Really, why not? I hear people calling for the end of a series all the time... but if it's pleasing someone out there (and it's just not you) then why not?
