I honestly don't know. I think screamo is the most primitave form of music, even lower than Rap and Country. At least I can make out what the people are saying...

One of my best friends likes it, and I have to remember to bring headphones to play real music when we party. Otherwise I go home wishing I hadn't hit my head through a brick wall.

I'm not into screamo although some bands I listen to might be considered screamo.

i dont liek screamo bands but i like bandms that sometimes scream like enter shikari and other bands liek that even linkin park scream in places it just fits in some parts its not really here nor there really. hope this post made sense

legacyme3 : It's actually pretty complicated to do the stuff going on in screamo. For one, screaming musically can be done by anyone, but it requires patience and an understanding of singing to do right. I listen to metal that is filled with vocals where it's impossible to understand the vocalists half the time. It's not screamo, but it gets lumped with it for some reason.

You can keep your view, but this is a thread about how one can like a form of music. Of course I'll give my arguments on why screamo isn't primitive. Drumming well is not smacking rock with bones, nor is playing a guitar well. You need skill to make screamo songs. I've never tried the screaming that gets called screamo vocals, but I can say that those hard to understand vocals are hard work to master.

Having experience with nu-metal types of screams, death metal vocals, and attempted demonic sounding shrieking vocals, I would know how hard it is to pull off screamed vocals. Also, the reason you don't understand what is being screamed in most cases is the fact that you aren't into that type of music.

I have trouble understanding Led Zeppelin oftentimes. I struggle with understanding the vocals of most hair and glam metal bands. I'm not a fan of that stuff. My ears aren't used to that kind of music, they're used to screaming, growling, and shrieking vocals. I'm fine with you not being into music with screamed vocals, but like I said, this is a thread that is more or less asking the question of why someone could enjoy screamed vocals.

Now to end this post with a light hearted joke. Be glad you don't have parties of any kind with me. The CDs I play most are death metal ones. 8D

I don't have a particular reason to listening to screamo, I just listen to songs that i enjoy hence why i listen to screamo to stuff like madonna

MEh, I am not a fan of screamo. IT irritates me a lot and I would prefer even country music over screamo.

I don't like it at all. =| it's one of my least favorite music genres. It's just not my style, mainly because everytime I've heard it, it winds up hurting my ears. >.<

I don't like "screamo" at all. Not only does it hurt my ears, I can't ever understand what they're actually singing about. It is my least favorite type of music.

I guess it is just the person, like how some people like certain foods, sports, etc. Personally, I hate screamo also

Shiggles aside, I have no idea. Do they have those bands on TV a lot? If so, that would explain the coverage that the bands get which leads to new fans.

There's likely a lot of factors involved. It could be ignorance of other music genres. It could be some kids grew up on the stuff. Perhaps they like the energy of it. This calls for a survey!

That being said, I'm sure there's some good screamo out there like there is good and bad* of everything else.

*Good and bad are subjective. Better word choices would be successful and unsuccessful which is still flawed but I hope someone knows what I mean!

I don't like screamo. I don't get it. It makes my ears hurt, and it isn't all that beautiful.

I like it to the point where the lyrics are still borderline discernible, and pretty much the "vocal  fry" style.  I can't stand it once it passes into the realm of loud grunting and double-bass-pedal rapid-pounding carnage.  I like having it in my library to add some variety, plus I like the heavy, energetic feel of it.
Basically, I enjoy the style that Killswitch Engage and Bullet For My Valentine do.  The screamo doesn't make the song for me; it's usually the guitar that the vocals accompany.
Also, it's fun because a good vocal fry stimulates a different part of my brain that nothing else does.
