The purpose of this thread is to find a solution to the problem some users have when trying to play RGR games on the weekend (which is RGR games not loading for some people). Each weekend I'm going to try something else out and see if that works.

Weekend:
3-25-2011 - 3-27-2011
Update:
Disabled file indexing and did a few other small things
Result:
Didn't seem to make a difference

Weekend:
4-1-2011 - 4-3-2011
Update:
PHP optimization to reduce overall server strain and probably also find a way to update the RGR Plugin page so that the page refreshes when the game fails to download
Result:
Possibly, results were a little messed up, we'll find out the following weekend
EDIT: I didn't notice a bandwidth drop this weekend

Weekend:
4-15-2011 - 4-17-2011
Update:
Get a 3rd server (a virtual dedicated server) which would have the single purpose of hosting files. Also upgrade one of the current servers.
Result:
none yet (last edited by Davideo7 on 04-11-11 02:03 PM)

I just tested the RGR, with games I owned, and games I didn't own.

The only games that did not start for me were N64 games, which seldom work me anyway (probably my video card), I was able to download new games, and I was able to play the games I already owned.

Using games I've played before I tested NES, SNES, Gameboy, Gameboy Color, Gameboy Advance, and Nintendo 64. There were no problems. I opened the game, loaded the save file and roamed around for a minute or so.

Using games I have not played before I tested all of the same systems and still had no problems. All of them except N64 also seemed to download a lot faster.

The N64 game (Donkey Kong 64) was a bit off with the sync. The sound effects and picture were perfect, but the music wasn't. I'm pretty sure that has nothing to do with this though. I'm only including it because leggy mentioned N64 in his post.

I used the plugin for all of them.

EDIT:

I'm having trouble editing layouts that I coded. I click "Edit" under the layout, it opens the redirect page, then the page turns white instead of opening the page with the Header and Signature boxes. More details at this thread:

http://www.vizzed.com/vizzedboard/thread.php?id=24567

Could this be related to the change you made?

We've received several reports in the past day or so about the games going at super speed for some people when they aren't holding the space bar down. This error happens sometimes, but since there was more than one this weekend I'm wondering if it would potentially be involved with the bigger problem.

BTowns :

I've yet to experience this myself, but I do have a problem to report.

When I tried playing a game using the RGR plug in, the game didn't work, I had never purchased it before, and when I played it, all I got was a white screen, no video or audio, no indication it even downloaded.

I tried the other emulation options and the same game worked just fine.

I've made the update so that if the game is having troubles loading for a few seconds, it'll ask the user if they want to try to load the game again (and if they click Ok than it'll restart the play window). Later in the week I'll do the PHP optimization that I talked about.

Haven't received any reports so far of the weekend issue, and I haven't been for the past couple weeks ever since I made that stickied thread on it. Maybe users just read the thread and don't reply, or maybe the error has gone away entirely, especially since you made the retry loading update. Is there still a bandwidth drop happening on the weekend?

User Antoniabza reported having the problem, starting 04-03-11 and tried reloading ten times, unsuccessfully. Previously owned games didn't work for him either. He's using a Windows 7 Gateway NV53.

There's been some reports of people getting the loading error on all games, even games they've tried before, during the week. A couple of these reports are entirely about N64 games, and even though the reporters told me they'd tried other systems, their game histories showed they were lying, so it might be that they either weren't compatible with N64, or that the Project 64 server has started to cut some people out. The past week has been quite busy with reports of issues similar to the common weekend issue, but most of them had a solution that was down to the user's error. I had the people who experienced the legitimate problem report to the stickied thread I made, but either not all of them have checked their PMs or they just read it and didn't post in my thread.

In short, since making the new error message that tells people to report to staff, we've been getting more reports lately, but the reports come throughout the whole week and not just on the weekend, and it doesn't seem like it's always the weekend issue because it locks them out of certain systems or games, but not all.

BTowns : Yeah we don't use an N64 server, just the vizzed server. I wonder if I should increase the time limit for that popup that tells them to restart the page or contact staff, I'm not sure if it's appearing to soon and not giving the game enough time to load, hard to say I guess. If I increase the limit than they may close out of the window before they get that popup, kind of a tough situation.

Davideo7 : Oh, I thought I heard somewhere that out N64 emulator is hosted on some other site. I guess I'm mistaken, sorry. If they have the real weekend issue though, it will be happening to them on all games, so they will most likely try and wait for at least one game to load long enough for the message to appear, so increasing the time might be a good idea. If it shows up too soon, that could explain why people have the message on the N64 games since they take forever to load sometimes.
