No I don't think it is possible in this world. Too many people have hate in there heart these days.

Yes, some day it will. I hope world peace does happen.

World peace would be boring because if there were no wars that would mean we've reached a utopia which Karl Marx said would be communism but if everyone was happy with everything then none would feel sad about anything and we'll have no perspective. I'm not saying wars are good but we need bad and good things in the world just along as theres an equilibrium and it doesn't end in us blowing the whole world apart at the end of the day nobody wants to set the world on fire. But I highly doubt we'll ever get world peace.

Theoretically, it is possible because there isn't anything actually STOPPING it from happening. However, the chances of it happening are absolutely so low, it could be classified as impossible.

There will never be entire world peace. We could do many things to lower crime rates and wars but there is no way to completely get rid of it. People have mentioned that it is part of human nature , and that is true . There isn't one period in humanity where we have had a peaceful society and that will not change, especially in this day and age where greed is prevalent

I believe there will be world peace, and it will happen over the course of the next 500-600 years. Whether it be us finding another civilization with radio wave technology via SETI(Making us realize we can't squabble amongst ourselves when there is possible stronger foes out there) or the mutual alliance of the major super powers due to convenience of resource sharing. The world is growing too small and is too fragile, people know this and it's becoming more known every day. Even if it's just theoretical talk there's been serious talk about living outside of the Earth, much cooperation would be needed for this. As destructive as we are as a species, religion continues to die out which will create a lot less of a reason for war because sadly that's what we've always fought about the most.

World peace is possible. But it wont happen

In my opinion world peace will never happen unless all life on earth is destroyed. War is just a natural instinct, even if it is fighting over something silly like a pencil etc,

I hate to mix religion in with this but the bible shows that peace will exist in the near future. I'm quoting directly from the New World Translation of the Holy scriptures from Revelation 21:3,4 "3 With that I heard a loud voice from the throne say: “Look! The tent of God is with mankind, and he will reside with them, and they will be his peoples. And God himself will be with them. 4 And he will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away."


So there it is. There will be world peace in the near future along with a paradise earth.

Possible? Yes. Lots of things are possible. It's possible that at the very moment of you reading this you will win the lottery.

I think it's definitely possible. Likely? Maybe not. On the other hand, I don't take such a negative view to this as many of you seem to. It seems we're not taking into account the possibility that humanity will evolve into a more enlightened species.

Disagreements plus murder in groups equals war, war equals a world without peace. If anger and sadness weren't emotions however then world peace might possibly be obtainable so maybe if they work on gene splicing a bit more, but I doubt if they found a way to remove emotions that it would change anything, I mean who would want to get their emotions removed even if it is anger and sadness.

Possible? No. If anyone's played Mother 3, an example would be when Flint attacked the other villagers, while not a good example it still is one, and it says that even when everyone is in harmony, someone will still attack.

Any chances we had of attaining world peace were gone the moment Adam and Eve ate the forbidden fruit, but that isn't to say it is their fault alone. I do believe each and every one of us plays a crucial role today. It's just that many of us choose to not follow God's commandments, or at least fail to do so when we try --and this does not just apply to those who believe in God.

Raymanrulz : I know you said that it wasn't a very good example, but I just wanted you to know that it was actually a terrible, awful, horrible example. In Tetris blocks fall from the sky, so we better not eat apples, eh?

Anyway, I still feel like evolution is largely being left out of this. At one point in time we were conquering other countries and enslaving our own kind so as to make them work on plantations and in brothels. I'm not saying that behavior has entirely stopped - it hasn't. There are are still slaves in the modern world, and some conquest still happens. However, this behavior has greatly reduced as we've evolved technologically and socially. Is it too optimistic to imagine that this trend will continue until wars are no longer a problem?

No, I do not believe that it is possible. Conflict starts where people differ. Since everyone is unique and individual, that means that everyone has different opinions. If people with different ideas communicate about their ideas, then they will argue. When people of multiple opinions gather together under united beliefs and argue with other people of united beliefs, then they will more than likely escalate things to physical or vocal violence. I think that world peace would only be possible if: everyone were a mindless automaton, everyone were dead, or people were isolated and thinned to the point where they will never make contact with another human being. It was never possible for there to be world peace as there have always been wars no matter how long ago in history you go back where humans have had contact with other humans. Unless everyone learned to keep all of their opinions to themselves and act the way a peaceful world dictates, but then they would be acting uniformly like automatons, not expressing themselves in anyway, not even really living. Just co-esxisting in a sad, silent, uneventful, meaningless peaceful existential vacuum without conflict to challenge them. (IMO)
