This guy is my dad. At 5 yrs old I caught him putting out our presents. After that I thought he was Santa until around 8.

I don't ever remember believing in Santa... I probably discounted him around the same time I found out that my parents were the Tooth Fairy.

I found out when I was like 8 or 7. I just was like you know what I have never seen this guy there is no way he is real, and I was right. My parents never told me because they did not want to ruin things for my little brother.

My parents never tried to keep up a Santa charade. I don't even remember believing in Santa.

I know I probably sound like a spoil-sport for saying this, but why would you lie to your children? Just because everyone else is doing it?

I really don't understand the motivation behind it- Give them something to believe in and then tear their hopes away a few years later? What if your child came crying to you after finding out Santa isn't real. What would your excuse be? "I know, honey, but you have to understand... We lied to you for fun!" It destroys honesty and trust.

Why can't you teach them the real point... that the point of the holidays is time to see family, be thankful for your loved ones & exchange gifts... Instead of lying & guilting them into behaving well with the promise of more "stuff"? It's just stupid to me.

My atheist friend has a quote, "When your parents teach you about Jesus, remember what happened with Santa."

Snowdeath : I have memories like that from when I was younger. Although they make no sense, so they were obviously just dreams. But they feel/seem like memories... It's bizarre.
