I liked all of the characters. However, the one that I always connected with was Robo. I'm a big fan of robots and I just love it when they are given emotion, free will, a background, and so forth. Also:

I loved Frog.  I would have played a Frog spin-off that never left the middle ages.  Great character development and over sized swords are always appreciated.

I love Frog for being a frog knight from Shakespeare. If that's not randomly awesome, I don't know what is. 

I liked Ayla for being a kickass prehistoric woman!

I love Chrono, just for his design. he looks really cool and I really have to play more of the game to Understand Chrono's character and goals. I really need to finish Chrono Trigger.

I like the frog a lot, but i have to give it to Magus because he has good magic and good attack power.

I guess Crono because he kicks butt in battle, and 2nd is Magus for his epic lines and epic battle theme.

I pick Chrono. He is amazing in battle and despite being a silent protagonist has a lot of character.

I like Comedy over Dramatics. (Sue Me.)
You get her on the team and prepare to laugh you But off. She was the Best Idea I have seen For Many Reasons. Number one. The whole cast of Crono Seems to be made of Token, Bonus Characters in R.P.G.s. Something that was never done before for R.P.G.'s. (Near as I can tell.) All of the characters should appeal but the one that stands out the most for me is the Female version of Tarzan That could not be taken too seriously. Some games do comedy well and Crono is one of them.
Other games fail at both comedy and new ideas for leading roles. This one makes all the new inventions work. It's "The Wizard of OZ of R.P.G.'s" as far as I'm Concerned. You can't make this tale unappealing to young people. One of the reasons I like it so much, is the fact that no one has tried to disgrace this title with weird hacks or Borrow ideas for crazy adds. In a manner its untarneshed. I stopped playing R.P.G.s a long time ago but Crono is interesting enough for me to at least grace an hour or two from time to time.

I love all the Cast but mark my vote for the Cave Chick. .."Ayla" was it?

I already stated my affection for the whole Cast.
What I intended when I used the terms "Token" and "Bonus" was the common use of characters that didn't matter much in other forms of Media given a spotlight by the games creators Ideas of challenging convention and "norms" to create a unique game.
The Role of "Crono" was typically described to resemble "Cecil" from Final Fantasy 4.
The Role of the "Princess" in Crono was Typically described to resemble "Rosa" from F.F.4.
In This Game. Crono has an Identity thats Closer to Goku From Dragon Ball and The Princess is Closer Leia from Star Wars. Goku represented a common Token character of "the Pint Sized Tank" witch traditionally was a side character that didn't drive the plot. Till the day Dragon Ball Aired on T.V. With the Star Wars Princess who traditionally had no real roll in plot was given the same treatment in her series.
The Games Creators Took Note of All The Rules That Were Broken with traditional story telling, that were a Hits, and included them in their game.
Free Thinking Ideas Like That are always a joy.
Bonus... The games Story is Text Read. Not Voiced Over.
Getting a character to be fully understood with just words is challenging. This Game took it a few steps beyond and gave you characters that you can understand without the music or animations.
That is something the modern game world shys away from allot with all the actors and music crews they have at their Beck and Call. True it does work to do the same thing, but oddly enough one way cost way less money and can be taught to one lone person. The Other Option takes an army of people to accomplish and a ton of cash.

Getting Back to the Characters and my preferences.
Getting a woman to be displayed as anything other than "eye-candy" when she is without a significant amount of clothes to cover her, was a very "Ballsy" move for the creators of this game. Particularly with it's rating. How Many Chances Are You Going To See An Amazon Not Displayed As "Sexy"? ... The Answer is Zero.
The Amount of times you see an Amazon that is funny? (And it Works?)
Again the answer is ZERO.
This is the one time I have seen the combination of the words "Amazon" and "Funny" together that actually works.
It's a rare occasion.

A favorite character from Chrono Trigger? Well, I think most people who've played the game can admit that battle-wise, virtually any of the characters were outright awe-inspiring with the right gear, set-up, and the like, so it comes to personal preferences. As a whole, however, I think that all of the characters in that game, even some of the NPCs, made a way into the hearts of those who played. Crono represented this thirst for exploration and adventure, which is something relatable in this kind of genre. Marle, the lovable tomboy with daddy issues, really was a great selection, both for love interest and to show that not all royalty is fancy and the like. Frog, the valiant, honorable, chivalrous knight with a tragic past, Robo, who lost his entire civilization and had to slay his own love, Atropos, Ayla, who led her people against an advanced civilization at the time. Each character was distinct and colorful, and they all added something amazing to this game, including poor Magus, who even now has a special place in my heart with his tragic back story and  the sad climactic ending of his story. Heck, even Schala and Zeal and  Ozzie had their own specialty about them. Honestly, I could never pick a favorite amongst them, they all mean quite a bit to me, and for those who can pick a favorite, I assume they most likely love most if not all of the splendid characters, as that is something anyone who has played this game can agree on. 

   My favorite character for battle is probably Robo. Throughout the game he will most likely be your 2nd or 3rd strongest character. He also has multi-heal magic, along with Shock that can target all offensively and Uzzi Punch which does nice damage to a single target.   
   My favorite characters in Chrono lore are probably Schala, Lucca, Chrono, Serge, Frog and Magus. If I had to go by just Chrono Trigger alone however, Frog and Magus steal the show. 
   The Middle Ages alone was just so well done. Nothing like being a kid, playing as Chrono, traveling time, feeling like you truly didn't belong where you were when you arrived, then having your awesome hair questioned because it didn't fit in with the time. Those are the kind of things that stick with you as you grow older and really learn to appreciate what we had in these games when we were younger.

Lets take a look at the whole series, a bunch of kids who transcend time to save the world from multiple armies of evil...yeah.....I'd say they are all pretty cool.

Now, who was my favorite? Can't really say I had one. But I can, without a doubt, say that it WASN'T Magus. Something about Magus just struck me as.......well, to complicated. He grew up with a name as horrible as Janis(Or something close to it) was then thrown through time, raised by monsters, and the entire time was holding off an ancient sleeping evil.........Yeah, you couldn't really call him evil, cause he was, the entire time, using his magic to hold of the true evil. He was, at the same time, looking for a way to get back and find his sister, who, by the end, has not reappeared for some reason that we don't know.

Chrono wasn't Mute, unlike most peoples thoughts. In one of the endings, he actually comes out and reprimands Marle and Luca for talking about boys when they are supposed to be giving an ending credits(Ok, maybe the only time he talks in the entire game, but still much less mute than just silent), and as a main character....he actually kinda sucked. Yes, he had range of the best techs and weaponry, but if you were to take that all away, what would you have? A boy with a stick and some friends. Not to mention, one of his original interests, Ayla, is like....his great great great 52 thousand years great grandmother......ewwwwwwww.

While on the topic, Ayla is probably one of my favorite characters. But then, I'm a freak for a woman with a tail. And despite my above comment of her age.....she isn't my relative, so its all good. As for her usability....I actually found that she had very few usable techs with the characters I normally used (Chrono, duh, and Frog)

Frog....Ok, lets just call him by his actual name, Glenn. He is a bad ass giant frog with the god of all swords....yeah, that's about it. Aside from his good swords techs with Chrono, his few and far apart appearances are pretty much useless. Yes, he is in my main party, but as soon as I get Magus.....well, Glenn kinda takes a back seat, right along with Marle and Luca.

Marle was, by far, my lowest hope for an ending love interest. She wasn't worth saving in my opinion, but I guess if you think that if you hadn't, then everything up to Chrono's birth would have been completely ruined, and he never would have saved the world.....yeah.......fine, I'll save her, then put her in the back row as soon as I can.

Luca.....for an inventor, she sure as heck didn't really contribute much to my inventory. Yeah, she built the time machine, BUT THATS NOT WHAT IT WAS MENT FOR IN THE FIRST PLACE! I take it back, keep your mits off my inventory, and get out of my party as soon as Ayla shows up..........Oh? You fixed Robo? SO WHAT! YOU STILL FAIL AT LIFE! But really, I had some small hope that Chrono would take a liking for the nerd, but no, Luca lives alone, takes in an orphan, and eventually gets killed by a giant panther man in Chrono Cross.

Robo. Ok, as much as talk bad on some of the other characters, I really have to give some praise to Robo. For being a majerly clunky robot, he did come in handy in a few ways. If it wasn't for Robo, I wouldn't have found out that Robots do have the power of feelings like love. By far, I have to say when he was forced to fight his love was the saddest moment of my life......but I sure as heck wasn't letting her beat me.

I feel like I'm missing someone. Well, if I am, then they obviously were not important to any major story lines, and altogether worthless in the party.

Now, if we were talking about Chrono Cross, then I have PLENTY of favorits......the first being Glenn XD But since we are not talking Cross, I'll end here with....

Don't get me wrong, I liked Chrono Trigger, its just that most, if not all, of the characters were crappy. Together, they made a good team, and that was the big point, but after Chrono dies, they all kinda find that they are useless without him, and work their hardest to get him back, even though at this time, they have Magus who RULED A MONSTER NATION and could have led them through thick and thin, and who can foreseeable defeat the final boss alone....

hmm well for me I could say it was a tie between Magus or frog crono was my second favorite but Magus and frog just as their personality is would be either Magus or frog
